The whole point of the game is now missed
This is a horror game. No one fears killers. Survivor has gotten to the point where its so easy people are looking for ways to torment the killers. Clicking at them with flashlights to chase them.
They WANT the killer to chase them.
The entire point of a horror game is to be AFRAID of the killer.
This game has become something else entirely and the reason is that survivor is so easy they literally need to think of ways to make it exciting. You never hear of killers having to think of new ways to make it interesting.

I personally think Corrupted should become baseline into the game for at least a few min to give the killer time to find someone like all gens without a perk should be blocked at the start for a few min or something

Dont think theres any horror multiplayer game ever that over time keeps you being afraid of the killer its just not possible.

Well the problem with that is after 100 hours of playtime, you just can’t really get scared anymore at the game. This goes for any movie, video game, or book that may be horror, because you know what to expect when you do it a bunch. I’ve seen the Shining several times and the first time, I was creeped out. Now, if I go and see it for like the 50th time, will I really be that scared of it?

Most people don't feel scared after many hours of gameplay, but we used to have a great and actually creepy ambience. The moment the devs messed that up...
Well, it is safe to say that it was the final nail in the coffin.
The cause is not yet lost, of course, as no cause is lost if there is but one fool left to fight for it. But...
The situation doesn't look good.

I would agree, old dark maps were so creepy.

Good to see a correct opinion around here!
Don't see much of those anymore.

To be honest, being chased is one of the only fun things to do. Holding M1 on a generator isn't my passion. It's a PVP game. I want to verse players.
Also as a Killer, I prefer someone to loop me for five generators than me looking for someone to interact with for ten minutes because no one touches generators to hide in a corner of the map.

I still do not agree with the "old dark maps were creepy"-stance here. I for one think that Tompson House or Rancid Abattoir are great maps with the rotting meat everywhere, the dripping blood and the strange sunlight on the corn that may or may not contains a Killer. Bright maps can be creepy too, they are just more difficult to make.
Also a very good map: Silent Hill - Midwich. Yeah I know some people hat this map, but its horror atmosphere is top notch!
I think the game could add more disturbing stuff and imagery for sure: Auto Heaven is bad in this regard because I do not get that scrapyard feeling that well, it is too bright and the body part in the walls are not prominent enough to add to the concept. This map is the worst in my opinion: It plays like a visit to a park in the afternoon without and bushes where a murder could hide.
Overall DbD has very good horror but can still do more. Some places are a work of art that I enjoy, some Killer are scary when I let myself get immersed. But some aspects are breaking this: Bad Moris (looking at you Trapper and Wraith), lack of blood / permanent injury, easy healing, there are many things that can be done and I hope the devs will do this.
Oh and one more scary thing: I always flinch back when I play Demogorgon for the first time in a while when I open a locker...that sound...

Or... maybe YOU missed the point of the game. Food for thoughts.

Becoming accustomed and desensitising is one thing, sure you may not be scared of the killer in that way but you should at least find them threatening. That alone keeps it tense.
Problem isn’t that killers aren’t scary it’s that their just not threatening, surprising or unpredictable enough.
When they are, people complain that they have no counter play but that’s what makes the game interesting. If every killer can be countered and played around by the same loopy chase you get dull predictable killers, repetitive game play and a stale meta.
That’s where we are at.

I honestly still get scared when playing survivor. I have only been playing since Resident Evil, not as long as others, but at this point, I have plenty of hours and it still works for me.

Confronting the killer in an intended chase doesn't feel like a risk not worth taking and that just kills the horror aspects. Usually feels more like a Scooby-Doo episode with the gang leading the monster into a jury rig trap of flashlights and pallets.

Survivors are like a pack of raptors, running off, hiding in tall grass and then waiting to strike with a flashlight.
Killers are desperately rushing around squealing trying to protect their precious generators from these rascals.
The whole game's feel is butt backwards.

If you play any horror game you will get used to the "scares".
When I started playing the game I was scared but that just went away after a while.
But jumpscares from Myers or Hag still get me.

The reason the old feel of the game (creepy ambience and dark maps and thick fog) was removed is because of killers complaining that they couldnt hear or spot survivors (mainly Claudettes). Blame them not the devs.

It's a horror themed party game that too many people turned into a competitive game.
But, everything loses its luster over time. Are you still scared watching Friday the 13th for the sixth time?

To be fair, even after 1k+ hours some killers and perks can still be quite scary. Spirit, Oni, Tinkerer With Bubba/Billy... It is pretty rare, but it's possible :3

Horror games lose their feeling the more often you play it. Nothing new. Despite that DbDs most exciting part IS chasing, for both sides. Nobody wants to play hide and seek the entire game where nothing else happens. And survivor isnt as easy as everybody wants to make it look like. Its by far more frustrating by now with all those poor plays of killer tunneling, camping and slugging.
