Skins that should be in the base game should not be prime exclusives

The artist's rare skins were instead of being used in the shop was left out from us and is only gained through twitch prime. I'm not hating on Prime gaming but it shouldn't be removing skins that should already be there in the first place. If it was only the artist I wouldn't care but along as people don't talk about it... how many other future characters won't have rare skins, or will have their base cosmetics that were planned for the store be shifted to twitch benefits. It's limiting and makes outfits that were most likely going to be purchasable with shards and make it so you need to buy a subscription service that not everyone is interested in. It would be better if twitch had a new skin that she had, or better yet just give Rare outfits for free and have the rares still be in the store for purchase because BHVR says they HATE exclusives so much 🙄.

To add on, I don't think the exclusive skins are even that appealing. For me at least.

I've seen other games have extremely good exclusives that really do stand out (Paladins for example), but these are just meh at most. BHVR as always :)

Could be that they come in the store in one year or so similar to some rift outfits.

I don´t know if they are completely exclusive.

Yeah, this. I'm not fond of the Prime exclusives (and I already had Amazon Prime - it's just that I dislike gating content behind external platforms), and there was a noticeable absence of green rarity cosmetics on her initial release. Characters basically always release with 4 browns (recolors of base), 3 yellows (recolors of base but with new designs), 2 greens (new mesh, 2 colors) and one purple (new mesh.) It stands to reason that these two outfits were supposed to be her Rare release outfits, and instead they're Amazon only. I don't like that.

even still the artist has barely any skins, to begin with. nothing to mix or match other than the recolors, and the frost outfit which isn't that good. Bhvr stated that this is monthly how many skins a mouth, who would get what, what if (example) jake's new skin is a twitch reward. after over a year of Jake mains waiting for a store outfit it now has a chance for his upcoming outfit to be a paid subscription.

Doesn't really matter to me, just get the paid subscription if you want it.

I'm sure after a while they will release the outfits for everyone to buy since you only have till January to get the outfits before they expire.

    oh_salutations Member Posts: 212

Not everyone can though and the rare cosmetics are usually the ones people get with shards. it feels like a slap in the face that they say over and over that hate exclusive, but then make deals like this to make exclusives that are even limited time.

The artist isn't the only one as the tweet states that it's going to be monthly. so for every update we are going to have less items because they are used as exculives

Yeah, it seems kind of dumb to me. Hopefully those cosmetics get brought into the store later on.

I can see these going to the store at a later date, or at the very least having recolors in the rift.

this offer ends January 10th, maybe the devs will put it in the store after that date?

  • anarchy753
    anarchy753 Member Posts: 4,212

First, have they actually said anywhere that they're exclusive? Like rift content they probably will come to the store soon enough. Prime gaming rewards is just a way of advertising the game to people who are already involved in gaming.

Though I will absolutely admit that I pointed out to my friends when Artist came out that it was pretty strange how she didn't get the usual amount of skins a killer gets on launch. She has less recolours, her weapon is skipped in most of the recolours, and she only got 1 unique outfit. I'm all for putting skins on Prime gaming (not in the least because it's cheaper to buy Prime for a month than it is to buy a skin, without even considering free trials being used to claim the rewards) but I think it's a bit questionable to take skins that would have been available to everyone with any other killer and cutting them out for the reward.

That said you would have had to pay for them anyway so who cares really?

It's fine if only one outfit, but 2 outfits kinda off.

They absolutely should have put the blue one in the in game store, and then released the purple one as the twitch reward to fit twitch's colours.

It never directly stated that they are exclusives, but BHVR also never said they will be put out at a later date like for the rifts. Also looking at the context with prime rewards (Apex, GTA, and Fortnite are examples) they are either Currency to buy things in-game or exclusives, never something that comes out at a later time.

And if they aren't exclusives and coming out on a later date, keeping that information from people is scummy because they know people would spend $10 to get a skin with that extra incentive of the fear of missing out.

And for green outfits, a lot of people buy them with shards and if Bhvr strips green outfits to be rewards, people would no longer have that option.

Bhvr should just stick to currency tbh getting 500 ac is less than the price of one green outfit Which they already are giving away, so it's not like it's going to break the bank to do that instead of skins.

I would've got that skin in a heart beat. her purple rarity sucked and was overrated. luckily my parents already got amazon prime 😭 imma see how to get it

  • anarchy753

How is it $10 for a skin? I'm in Australia where we usually get overcharged for everything and prime is only $7, and on top of that it's 2 outfits so more like $3.50.

They didn't expressly say it's not exclusive, but they've said in the past no more exclusive cosmetics, only charms will be (And I guess the twitch shirts for streamers, but whatever) so I would assume that would include these.

Plus, it's prime gaming, if you're really going to be that upset over it, just use the free month they offer to claim the rewards, or see if a friend has prime and doesn't play dbd. It's not like other games where it links to your account, it's just a code to redeem.

BHVR is a business but not a very clever one at that when it comes to selling cosmetics. Thinking they will gain a boost in sales for having such sale for the Artist skins, instead, they will lose a lot of potential customers for putting it behind such wall, thus dropping interest of those who would have bought it and even making sure that in the future people are more reluctant to purchase anything in despise of the company.

I have lost my interest in buying cosmetics with real money simply because of how badly BHVR manages them. The designs are often uninspired and generic-looking, something you can buy in real life clothing store. Yet the price of these cosmetics is ridiculously high. Sales are often minimal, offering limited-time deals that cannot even be called such for how minuscule they are.

Rarely do I find myself buying a skin using real money even though I have disposable income and desire to spend it on DBD, and the reason behind this is due to the bad experience I have had over the years in general. BHVR makes it really hard for me to want to support them. And every year, every month I lose more and more interest in playing the game due to unbalanced decisions that only make the game worse with each major patch, Boon totems being the latest one that has made the game unenjoyable on the side of when playing as Killer.

But my biggest reason not wanting to support BHVR by purchasing cosmetics with real money has to do with the consisting cheater problem that has no real report system or fix even to this date.

Honey. It's not for free. For the next few months the prime will offer more content for DBD. The first 30 days are free trial, but for next ones you need to pay. It's only about money in this big disgusting world.

  • PlayTwink
    PlayTwink Member Posts: 454

Besides... It's like 3 dollars per month for me so... I preffer to get few skins per month for 3 dollars than getting one for 10 dollars.

If you are talking to me I never said twitch prime is free I was saying that most green outfits have the option to buy with shards so you could get them for free by just playing the game.

and it feels like a slap in the face to people that do that because they save up shards for basically nothing, the only thing you could buy with shards for the Artist is the recolors for the default

  • PlayTwink
    PlayTwink Member Posts: 454

It honestly depends on BHVR's mood whenver they want to sell outfits for shards or auric cells

For the base green outfits, one is always free the other is a mix of free/ paid for only

Nothing ever stays exclusive, legacy skins get bought out every now and then as "sale"

There was going to be plenty of titles for ps4 that were exclusive, now you can get them on Steam.

    Rdr2, Days gone.

If there is profit to be had, nothing is exclusive.

I'm against prime exclusive skins too. All the skins should be obtainable ingame with or without auric cells, but all obtainable ingame.

The only exception maybe the Twitch T-shirts for streamers, which are ugly so I don't mind them and are a good exclusive gift for the dedicated content creators.

Connect your game account with an amazon pay service to get fancy skins. Nice deal

That's how it is most of the time but not all of the time. I know both of Yun-Jin's green outfits were avaliable with Shards and I believe it was like that for one other character too but I can't remember who.

You guys gotta understand that it was probably part of the license deal basically using those extra skins as a way to draw in new sales. Sure it kinda blows but it is what it is. Most likely they will eventually come to other platforms after a certain set period of time like alot of other companies do well aside from Nintendo at least as they are the #1 most restictive

One is a recolor of the main outfit given to people who had to deal with the old (And way harder) way to level people up which stopped with Nea. The other was base store outfits (For the artist) taken away from the store and given to people who pay for prime gaming. BHVR stated multiple times that they don't like exclusives and the only things that are exclusives are The l4d t-shirts, Dev Shirts, Legacy, And Twitch/ Any other content creator-made cosmetic. (Which all but the twitch shirts are from the old days of dbd). why do you think Battle pass cosmetics get put in the shop, or why everyone has kate's Freespirit shirt even though it was marketed as Exclusive and made people Repair over 70 gens to even get.

Edit Oh and all Stranger Things stuff could be seen as exclusives but that's because of the Chapter leaving not bhvr trying to make money by selling exclusives.

I'm not sure the L4D shirts are actually exclusive anymore to the PC platform? Also I occasionally see comments like yours pointing to the fact that BHVR are generally against exclusives yet BHVR seems to be creating more and more exclusive/time limited skins. But they are very inconsistent. They released a lot of exclusives in the past and most recently the deathgarden masks (or should I say just the meg mask?).

But things that are not obtainable right now (and kind of seem exclusive) are the things you listed and anniversary crowns, anniversary skins, Mikaela's and Doc's Halloween skin, rift charms, fog whisperer and bhvr charms, and now the prime exclusives. Then there's also the bloodletting shirt and Nintendo Switch exclusive skins. I probably missed a few, too.

So did BHVR ever really say what you mentioned or perhaps they had a quick U-turn? I feel like they may have said that in a brief time period where it was the easiest thing to say when they were releasing so many exclusives... even tournament exclusives. I still don't understand that.

  • shalo

  • oh_salutations

Yes the L4d shirts are still exclusives to PC

also, exclusive ≠ timed limited (Or timed exclusive) exclusive is more like a Fortnite battle pass you miss out on it too bad because they are not coming back. timed exclusive on the other hand gives people time to use their skin that they earned or received but also is put out at a later date for everyone to get,

The only true new exclusives bhvr still makes are the charms but it's just a charm and crowns too but they seem to make a newer version of them every year so its not the end of the world if you miss out on them

Just a guess but for Mikaela's Halloween skin it will most likely come out next Halloween like David's skin in the 2021 Halloween event

And Yes BHVR did comment about exclusives back in 2019 in the patch notes for the update that gave us the exclusive cosmetics
