Anyone else just not finding joy in playing DBD anymore?

Ever since MMR has come out it has just destroyed any joy I find in DBD. Constantly, in every single one of my matches, I am always getting paired up against extremely sweaty players and I don't mind going up against sweaty players but when it's EVERY single match, it gets so exhausting. It doesn't help that in high MMR everyone is always running the same extremely overpowered meta build and frustrating play styles such as COH, DH, UB, or a bunch of slowdown perks with strong add-ons and tunneling/camping. As a survivor, all of my matches feel so frustrating because of me having to constantly go up against killers that I really don't enjoy using strategies that I also really hate while for killer I'm constantly forced to play Killers that are extremely good at camping (Trickster) or Killers that are extremely powerful (Blight, Artist, or IMO Pinhead.)

Seriously, how am I supposed to have fun with DBD? Even with a SWF or even if I win a Killer match I still don't enjoy DBD. If anyone still finds this game fun, please tell me how you're still able to find this game fun with everything that I mentioned.

    Yup.

I only usually have fun when I play with my loved ones, and we're not a sweat squad.

DBD more often than not feels like a frustrating chore.

MMR really knocked this game down, which is frustrating because it's something a lot of the community wanted, albeit in a better form than we have it now.

Yeah its rather depressing right now, some people need to realise its a game and you should consider other players fun

Yeah, I've been playing other games way more. Without log in rewards I haven't even opened DBD except for couple times my swf teammate wanted to play - only played a couple rounds when that happened. It's just not fun being the only 2 on a team doing anything while our teammates are hiding in a corner to avoid any possible interaction with the killer, it's 4v1 not 2v1 for a reason. Before people atleast tried because it kept them in a rank for matchmaking, now they just rely on their teammates to carry them.

I mainly play for BP now. I spent way too much time and money on this game to just let go.

But yes, I am playing way less than ever before and not having much fun even while winning.

I've been taking a long break and it feels great, I suggest you do the same. Find and play other games that make you happy! It's not like DBD is going anywhere.

    Yeah.

I'll occasionally play a few matches of survivor, but that's about it. Killer is too frustrating to play and survivor can get boring pretty fast, so there's no point in playing for a long time.

Yeah, although I keep coming back, I think it's because of the fact that when I play it with my friends I find it more entertaining because at least we're losing together we're just goofing around.

It's just a buggy mess, especially on console, a lag spike literally prevented me from vaulting a window and the killer managed to get me. But then my friends cheered me up and we laughed it off.

I'm not playing very much at the moment, mostly because I'm super busy with school right now. But even when I do have some game time, I am usually playing other games. I used to play every day. Now, I'm playing 1-2 times a week just to get my dailies. Really hope they address SBMM. People clearly aren't happy about it and the numbers are showing. More BP every month just isn't going to cut it.

There are so many ways for each side to make the other miserable. I got matched with a 4 stack that was running sabo builds yesterday. They ran 3 hook distance offerings and we got grim pantry for the map. Hooks and gens are already far apart on that map. Everytime I chased someone they would run to pog log. I just face camped and when I couldn't hook the trade cause of breakdown, I just d/ced. ######### that #########. Who actually wants to play against that and thinks it's fun

Yeah DBD is starting to wear me out. It doesn’t ever feel exciting to escape or get kills as much.

I have literally just come back from a 7-month break and I don't know how long I'm going to play before I decide to do a sequel, so yes I agree

At least I finally posted that Legion guide that's been bugging me all this time (shameless plug)

I've been feeling this way for 2 years now. I hardly ever get on. I might pop on once a new chapter releases and that's only if it's a killer I think will be fun. There are many chapters I flat out refuse to purchase because I don't want them. I sometimes get back on when friends want to swf but that hasn't happened since mmr was introduced. I haven't played since boons were introduced and from what I'm hearing I dodged a bullet. I'll stick to games that I find actually fun.

Yeah. Due to MMR I stopped killing survivors. I'll shoot for two hook stages on everyone but I intentionally let everyone go. Survivors are usually nice about it, everyone gets BP, I max out my BBQ if I'm lucky, but the game SUCKS as soon as you start winning. It's not that I don't like losing, that's a normal part of a competitive game, but it's that the game becomes frustrating and unplayable once you raise your MMR.

I know what I'm doing can be considered smurfing, but I really don't have any intentions on killing survivors every again as long as the current SBMM algorithm is in place. I'd gladly sacrifice some extra BP for a playable game in exchange.

I haven't enjoyed the game since SBMM was added and the broken boons were added the game isn't balanced and I don't like playing either role as survivor is boring and killer is way to stressful with all the unfair things being added

my stand point is the community is toxic, the hackers are a massive issues and the devs are not listening to the community about the issues so i probably wont play the game until this is all fixed or the game finally dies

I agree overall with your post. Pinhead extremely powerful made me chuckle but i understand why. I think clown and pig are powerful but I know its me and not the killer. I got rolled with Demo and Im a bit salty over it. Should have been a easy 2-3k but a mix of mistakes, horrible perks, and red forest kept me at a 1k and got me t-bagged and messaged.

One day my demo will have a build.....hopefully anyway. Spies, jolt, and fearmonger need to go.

I more or less do the same on most killers. There are some I take seriously and relentlessly camp and tunnel. I actually had a survivor pretend he ran me for 3 gens and I had to kindly explain to him that hanging on a hook doesn't count as running me. Lol. Odd creatures they are.

But yeah, if I accidentally kill someone on say Spirit, it gives me a feeling of dread. I am so bad at her even when the survivors wouldn't qualify as potato.

DBD was my main game for the longest time and I've been playing since Freddy was first introduced to the game (Poor original Freddy who had to put you to sleep)

Now....my friends have to literally drag me into the game and I'll play for like an two hours tops (with the 10 minute survivor queues, that's like 8-10 matches included match times and lobby times). I've said it before in previous posts but I want to play for fun and some matches are, but like half the matches are dealing with campers and tunnelers and everyone knows the only thing you can do against that is "jUsT dO gEnS" so now I'm playing m1 simulator because 1 players decided to make the match boring by not chasing anyone.

It's just a drag to play now

It's not MMRs fault though, you're just seeing more efficient players more often, at least when compared to the old grade system which rewarded farming and goofing off.

Still, a lot of matches are wildly different, either too easy or difficult. I guess because the match making prioritises queue speed over balance. (it could probably use some other tweaks regardless)

It should be good for the game to get a better understanding of game balance, what someone does with that information is another matter.

gen speeds, maps, SWF, time pressure on killers etc are all big problems

I'll say that I'm enjoying the game substantially more since SBMM.

It has it's issues, and SBMM has certainly boiled these to the surface though.

My fun hasn't been affected by SBMM, it just confirms everything I already knew.

Boons, random nerfs, and the refusal (or slowness) to fix obvious problems have done more damage.

    maps are still bad

perk buffs usually don't do anything

I'm having joy, I just have little hatred toward any good survivors, especially when there is four of them.

  • ReviloDBD

This is the exact reason that I seem to have been taking longer and longer breaks from the game.

I don't know why, but even when I completely lose multiple games in a row, it doesn't seem to change my MMR, I just keep getting matched against the same type of really hardcore players, that honestly as it turns out are significantly better than me (Unless I'm playing at my absolute best on my best character) so yeah it gets boring really fast.

I enjoy a challenge, and I prefer CLOSE matches where I have to fight for the win, and even then if I lose I don't mind because it was close... but when I keep facing teams as Killer that have 4 escapes and only like 3-4 total hooks in a row, or being the first one to die as a Survivor multiple matches back to back.. it drains me so much, I don't have any urge to log back in again.

I used to find this game so fun, i used to play Hillbilly and have 4k's almost every match no matter the map.

But nowadays, i just find the game seriously unfun. By the time i finish my first chase, 3 or 2 gens are already done. The amount of times i've hit a survivor and the hit magically didn't count because of Dead Hard is just ridiculous.

Not to mention TTV people and fully coordinated SWF's, i get it's normal to want to play with your friends or your stream and all, but something just breaks once communication for survivors is added to this game.

Last time i played DBD it wasn't like that. I swear, it might sound silly, but it felt balanced back then. (Back when Twins were released)

Killer Main, and I'm still having fun.

Play around 1-4 games when I have time.

Games vary from winning big/losing big.

You can often tell what kind of game it's gonna be in the first minute or two.

If I know its a losing game, then I try to focus on the smaller "wins" instead, like downing a god looper or just pulling of a cool mindgame. Just trying to better my game. Sometimes those "relaxed" games end up with a 4 hook 4k. xD

But I'm having the most fun with the end game "close call" kind of matches.

MMR has absolutely killed the game for me. I would play 3-4 hours of killer almost every night and now I might play an hour total every week. Every game is a sweat fest with toxic survivors so I'll play one game, get BMed for 10 mins and then quit playing for a week.

I feel the same way and I think a lot of other players do too. That’s why the player count has been dropping. The blood rush and changes to grade rewards are band-aid solutions to try to slow the decline, but there needs to be some bigger changes to stop players (especially killers) from leaving the game. There are a lot of things that need to be addressed (just look at common forum topics), but admitting that SBMM was a big mistake and reverting back to the old rank system would be a good start.

  • dugman
    dugman Member Posts: 9,713

I’m still enjoying the game. 🤷‍♂️

Also I noticed comments above like “I used to get 4k most of the time and now I have to sweat to get 2 or 3 kills.” Well yeah, that means the SBMM is working! Why would you expect to get 4 kills most of the time without actually having to work for it? 1-3 kills is supposed to be the most common results, so the gens being done is the rule and not the exception. The fact that you got 4 kills all the time in the old system means the old system was worse than the current one because it was putting you against weaker players than yourself too often.

I get the complaint by brand new players that their initial ratings are too high. I don’t empathize when people complain that they have to “sweat” to get 4 kills.

My love for this game is starting to slip, and I don't know how long Blight can keep me holding on for.

    Am I still having fun?

Well if you call spending an entire match doing the majority of the gens, saves, heals, only to watch a substandard 3man SWF leave me to die on my first hook knowing MY MMR will drop and theirs will go up?

    Oh, it's a blast.

Or loading into a match, hearing Trickster music and immediately knowing the Killer is a 14 year old facecamper *every single time*.

Yeah screw SBMM. It just sucked the fun out of this for me. I now only play maybe a few matches one day a week,

  • xxshyguyxx
    xxshyguyxx Member Posts: 312

I still have fun, but I find myself way less patient with the BS in this game than I used to be.

Like.... if I'm against a swf, it's cool, I don't care. Yet the first time I see extreme coordination where 1 is body blocking while I'm carrying a survivor and the other is sabotaging a hook I'm going to and bad RNG makes that hook the only hook I can reach and I lose the survivor....

Okay.. well I keep going but if it continues to happen.... I immediately DC, take a break and come back later. Sometimes I don't come back at all.

These days I just don't play against toxic survivors. I used to endure it but in time you learn when you play those gross coordinated games where they just tormit you and make you miserable you never have a good time.

Even if you kill all 4 bc they are so focused on being gross with Sabo plays, flashlights, break out stuns, etc.... it still isn't fun. And it's worse when you endure it and leave with nothing except trash talk at the end.

I'm an experienced killer, so I know right away what most survivors are trying to do.... and I just don't have a good time, outplaying them or not.

I leave. I don't even get mad anymore. I just won't play with bully squads. I'll use that penalty to take a mental break and come back .

The devs have allowed to many gross meme perks that annoy the killer and when 4 of them gang up on you using 16 meme perks or a combo of meme and meta perks nobody but the survivors have a good time.

I want to play the game. Not be a clown for laughs for 10 miserable minutes.

Am I having fun anymore? Kinda. Yes... and then no... depends on if the survivors just want to actually play the game. I will say tho.... wins feel empty alot of times and losses feel expected. It's fun when you get at least 6 hooks and good chases but good chases cost you gens.

    So meh..

I try my best to like the game still but between getting validated by dead hard 4-6 times a game and injuring people just not mattering due to CoH it's really really hard to still find it enjoyable.

  • SweetTerror
    SweetTerror Member Posts: 2,695

SBMM doesn't belong in a game that relies so heavily on RNG mechanics like what DBD does. Not to mention when the 1 in the 4v1 equation is put at such a huge disadvantage thanks to the amount of communication that SWF have at their disposal, I can't blame Killers for tunneling and camping. Hit and run play styles used to be an effective tactic with a lot of killers, but thanks to perks like COH (especially in a SWF) m1 Killers hardly stand a chance anymore without playing dirty.

Steam has seen a drop in players consistently for months now, and I wager it's the same on consoles. I'm tired of sweating as killer, and I'm tired of my matches as survivor lasting less than 3 minutes because I'm hardcore tunnelled out of the game. I've always said that should this game ever have a proper bot mode, I will play that probably 90% of the time because at least I can blow off steam there, and be guaranteed to have a much more chill match.

I'll play occasionally but not that much anymore, and only survivor. Still log in for rewards and such for if/when I get back into it, I just usually then exit and play something else. It's not MMR for me but just various factors and vague burnout

Getting tired of this game man. Just got matched with a 4 stack running Sabo, wglf and circle of bullshit. Can't ######### hook anyone can't slug. All you can do is d/c
