SWF Opt Out
Very new to the game. Is there anyway to opt out playing against/with SWF? If it not, has this been discussed before? As a new killer im getting games way out of my league, really frustrating.

No and they'll never add this feature because they know SWF queues would be insanely long. Survivor mains will tell you SWF gives no advantages but somehow no one would want to play against them at the same time ::shrugs::

There is not and it will almost certainly never happen. While there are a handful that would, the vast majority of killers would just uncheck SWF. Why risk a 4 man bully squad when you could just check the box that makes it so it's a 0% chance?
1 -
If you're on Steam you can check profiles and see if they're friends and dodge. You can look for clues that it's a SWF. Here's a few:
People with the same cosmetics on or names that are plays on each other like "Jenny's Cat" and another one named "Jenny's Dog" are gonna be SWF. Multiple flashlights is usually SWF. TTVers = the double whammy of sweaty SWF and/or bully squad usually. Multiple pink hair or neon cosmetics = bully SWF etc

Perhaps SWF gives *less" of an advantage to experienced killers who know how to play around it, but to new players, we just get bullied, and learn nothing. How about a filter for new players. Cant be placed with SWF until after XX amount of playtime or something.

I hope there would never be an option for that
2 -
oh no, that advantage of theirs continues regardless of your skill level. The MMR system doesn't even work correctly because it doesn't want them to have to wait too long, so it throws them at someone with 5 hours in the game if they're in queue for more than a few minutes.
Welcome to why many people don't bother playing killer. You either need to tough it out and lose horribly while you spend obscene amounts of time unlocking decent builds on killers and learning how they all work, get lucky and get matched with players of actual similar skill, or just ignore the role entirely and just play for the occasional daily/tome challenge.
1 -
Just curious, why would that be?
1 -
You should not be frustrated by getting owned, there will be ups and downs, if you keep that up it will literally eat you alive in this game.
Know that you can learn from them, Know that it dont matter if they have easy game vs you, dont take bloated egos to heart in endgame chat.
Kill the best you can, have fun applying the hammer to Survivors, even if you dont managed to hit them at all.
With time comes skill, comes mastery. Chill and have fun is my best advice.
2 -
They wouldn't be long, they would be non existent.
1 -
Other than dodging the obvious ones, not really. They only plan to address this by buffing solo survivors. Nothing for killer, really, as per the standard.
1 -
Cause people shouldnt be punished for playing with friends/family, and the only thing people hate about swf is comms rights? but how do you know if a swf is using comms , the majority of swf dont use coms.
1 -
lmao.
yes they do.
Why would you play with friends if not to talk to them?
I've played the game for 4 years. I have never been in a SWF and not been talking to them.
10 -
What in the world are these levels of copium, I'd say a large LARGE majority of SWFs use coms, unless it's a twitch streamer playing SWFing with their chat.
2 -
The frustration lies in the fact that its very difficult to learn or improve when your just getting stomped by a coordinated team. New players should be given time to learn the killer and their nuances first, imho. Why cant there be two queues? Give bonus BP or something to the killers that join SWF queues? Again new to the game so I'm sure this has been discussesd to death before.

swf is just queing with someone else, i still think the majority dont use comms
1 -
If you add a person, and the person is someone you know, it's definitely going to be coms on. If they're online friends, nobody has a reason not to use coms, there's discord, one of the most popular platforms, available to them. It's so easy to just hop into a voice call with your friends. I don't see why a MAJORITY of people would just decide not to do that, because for whatever reason.

Best way to avoid possible SWFs is to see if survivors load into the lobby together. If you see 3-4 people loading same time you can assume they are playing together.
I usually dodge lobbies like that...except yesterday i didnt..i went with a toxic ttv.. biggest mistake of my life.
0 -
Not anymore. The process has been changed around last year and survivor pop regularly into a lobby together.
A survivor lobby that has waited for a certain time is given the next available killer, swf or not.
So 4 survivor plopping together in a lobby is no indicator for swf anymore.

Sadly SWF is completely broken game wise because the coordination and communication just breaks everything.
Playing with your friends though is a big draw so this won't change anytime soon.
If people could opt out of facing SWF then so many people would do it that playing with your friends would just die off due to queue times. So that's not an option either.
The MMR also takes queue time into account and if people have been waiting long enough then they'll get matched with any available killer and new killers will just get thrown under the bus. Undertsand that this is going to happen a lot and just roll with it there's not a lot you can do.
If the survivors taunt and abuse you for it then that says more about them than you because rolling over new killers is nothing to brag about.

We all want this but they pay the bills and the devs practically ignore they exist. Especially when it comes to balance.
0 -
Aw man really? Thats too bad. Well that does explain sometimes when groups that i thought were not SFWs play like professional gamers
0 -
People actually thinking "SWF give no advantage" is stupid. it's even against BHVR's own data.
2 -
I agree we can choise to play with SWF party or not. If you enjoy DBD with VC, you should play custom match. VC spoil DBD's View.
0 -
Not everyone has a 5th friend to play with, nor does everyone enjoy playing killer.
1 -
Then they doesn't deserve SWF tbh, if you actually think about game health.
0 -
SWF broke this game, plain and simple.
2 -
If we’re thinking about game health, I’m sure this game would die without swf existing, or simply go back to what it used to be. Lobby dodging till people got with their friends.
0 -
SWF keeps this game alive.
1 -
Really? Where's your source?
2 -
Yes, really. Ιt's a common sense. Take the killer main blinders off.
1 -
Ahhh I see, because you say so it's fact. Makes perfect sense!
Where have i said i'm a killer main or are you just making things up again?
1 -
Do ban just like it does with disconnect, problem solved.
Do note 50% or so of players aren't SWF still, I don't see this game gonna "die" because SWF left.
1 -
If SWF is removed from online match. i come back to play killer and my friends are too. Playing killer against SWF party is very stresfull.
1 -
That is almost certainly incorrect. Why in this day and age would people play a game with their friend and not be talking to each other? It’s hard to imagine that virtually all swfs aren’t on comms.
That being said, it’s also worth noting that the devs have mentioned previously that half of all games have a swf of some type included. So if killers could “opt out” of playing against swfs they’d be cutting themselves off from a huge part of the playerbase.
1 -
The devs commented a while back that about half of all games have a swf of some kind in them.
1 -
I don't know if that gonna be a problem though, at least there is so much of survivors right now.
0 -
Ok? But that's still not a majority and still not enough to prove the statement that swf 'keep this game alive'?This game was in a much better place when SWF were not a thing. The fact that they can't even introduce a game mode of casual vs ranked where one allows swf and the other does not is a clear indication how a lot of people feel about playing against or with swf. They can't/refuse to balance swf/solo/killer which is why we're stuck in this rotation of swf>killer>solo.
0 -
I don’t know how many survivors there are or aren’t in the player pool, but considering you need 4 survivors per match to just one killer ideally you actually do want a lot of extra survivors in the mix.
0 -
Um, swf has been a thing in the game since just after release? And the only reason it wasn’t in the initial live release was because its development wasn’t quite finished at launch.
1 -
In my region, killer que is always less than 10 seconds.
So, even if reducing survivors by 50% I'm not sure if that gonna be a problem.
0 -
Well a couple of things
- It’s not just you having fewer people driving up your queue, it’s also survivors in swfs having fewer killers in their own queues. I don’t know what your survivor queue times are like but imagine how much longer they’d be if 25% of killers just opted not to play against you because you’re playing with a friend at the moment.
- Not pairing against swfs also probably impacts how often the system can put you in close matches if you are an above average player. Swf players most likely are corrlated with somewhat above average ratings since they will tend to have played the game more often than newer players who aren’t invested enough to play with friends yet. So it could mean getting into more mismatches as a killer.
0 -
I mean that still does not affect my statement that the game was more fun when swf were not around.
0 -
If you say so? I wasn’t in the beta but I do know the game has undergone a lot of improvements since release.
0 -
Don't you love that?
- Balance Killers around SoloQ
- Admit SWFs are super powerful.
- Buff SoloQ closer to SWF level.
- Ignore Killers.
- Profit.
3 -
Disconnect won’t necessarily stop people (unless it’s major but that would be even more harmful), although it may push some players away.
Also I’m curious as to where you got those numbers from.
Following such, two things I believe would happen. Possibly one, possibly both, or possibly even none.
Killer would have much much much longer queues, similar to current survivor queues, and a lot of the playerbase would leave.
Survivors would receive buffs, possibly even more than what are planned right now. Or killers would receive nerfs. And then we would be right back at square one, killers complaining about stress and survivors being OP, even during times when the killer clearly isn’t good which I unfortunately see way too often.
It isn’t as easy as removing swf, and like I said none of these could happen, one or both could too. It’s how I would predict these events would logically go. Personally however, the game is absolutely heading in the right directing reducing the gap by buffing solo survs and keeping swf in the game.
0 -
No, if the SWF is removed from the rank match, the solo survivor will be more fun to play and I and my friends who have played in the past will be back in the game again.
It doesn't matter if the killer is weakened if the game balance is adjusted according to the group of solo survivors. However, it doesn't matter if we can eliminate the ingenious group that brings income and drones to the foggy forest. It doesn't matter if games that are popular in recent years can use VC. I'm just looking for a world view and gameplay that can only be experienced with DBD.
