Bhvr should get rid of hackers or disable disconnect penalties

This post was made during my 30 minute penalty for disconnecting. If I'm not wrong, this is the length for leaving 5 times, and I'm disconnecting only when facing a hacker.

For the past few years (early 2018 until ~mid 2021) I've never faced a hacker even once. But that changed around the time the MMR system got fully released. If I am estimating it right, I should be placed above the average in MMR with the killers I'm playing most of the time. And with exactly those killers, I have to face an enormous amount of hackers. There were days I had 3 such matches in a row.

If I'm facing a hacker, I disconnect instantly. I don't see a reason to waste my time or grant them a pleasure, and most of the time it goes well. I wait 5 minutes, spend some blood points, and continue. But in the past 48 hours, I don't know what changed, the rate of hackers has increased even more. And now I am sitting here.

And of course I'm not forced to disconnect, but then I'm forced to play a game I know I have no chance to win.

My point is, Bhvr should stop punishing people who already let themselves down to play killer (It's not the most fun thing to do for me, but I don't want to start a discussion about the meta etc.) and don't want to waste their time against hackers or finally fix their anti cheat.

Disable disconnect penalties until they add an anti-cheat that prevents hackers.

Yes, we know disconnects will become abused.

Yes, we know a disconnect penalty is needed in a game like Dead by Daylight.

Though we have to consider the whole picture and big picture is that hackers significantly gain from a disconnect penalty because the game is actively forcing players to stay in games with their abusers, and often times getting taken hostage by the same hackers. A player should not be penalized for avoiding a cheater, and that outweighs the need for a disconnect penalty.

Kinda agree but if DC penalties are gone, nancy mains are gonna reign. as killer Literally almost ever nancy I go against, DC on first hook

BHVR clearly does not care about the cheater problem so we're kind of stuck like this unfortunately

I agree - Solving the problem itself is the better solution in every way, but our experience of the past years can show us, there won't happen anything in near future.

So I think, at least some changes to the way disconnects are handled would be healty.

A constant time or a difference between killer and survivor penalties..

    1. It's not possible to 'get rid of hackers'. Every time a company updates their anti-cheat; hackers will find a new way to overcome it. Nothing is flawless. It's an arms race between cheaters and programmers.
    2. No. Hell no. Disabling disconnects would make the game unplayable. The second someone starts to lose; DC. Every time.

“Get rid of cheaters” if it was that easy it wouldn’t have gotten so bad to begin with. In any game, ever.

Also, have you seen how bad it gets when the DC penalty is turned off?

Yeah BHVR really put themselves in a bad spot. The dbd playerbase are notorious for taking advantage of the dc penalty being turned off to literally dc for anything, their dh didnt work? dc, a killer they dont like? dc, a killer has these sets of perks? dc, 2 teammates go down within the span of 20 seconds? dc etc. Meanwhile the hacker problem grows.

They do still have a problem sadly but they seem to now be the more insidious type of stealth cheater. If you aren't experienced you may not even notice that they cannot be mind gamed or have subtle 5% or so speed boosts etc. But the cheaters definitely are still in the game and there are still a lot of them.

Yes, I've seen Dc Penalty off multiple times. It was annoying, but the difference wasn't as big as you are describing it, from my perspective.

A game's never gonna be perfect defending hackers, but yet I've seen games doing way more better than DbD: One hacker from time to time and definitly without a possibility to get the same working hacks from the same source for months.

Cheaters are a huge problem and DBD's definitely losing the war with this current wave, but turning off the DC penalty ruins far more matches than cheaters do. Every single time they've disabled the penalty for longer than a day, it's been a massive shitshow where everyone quits as soon as they don't like something. Solo queue becomes completely unplayable, and it gets worse over time as more people realize what they can get away with and adapt their habits.

I understand the desire for action, but I'm convinced this is a case where the cure is worse than the sickness.

I hate the hackers and want them gone of course, but unfortunately disabling the DC penalty is gonna make a lot more matches a nightmare.

Even with the DC penalty on, players still do this sort of thing. Try playing Nemesis or the Artist, I can't go 2 games without someone DC'ing the moment they find out who the killer is. And that's with the DC penalty on. I imagine this only gets worse when it's turned off.

Why would you make it so more people have their games ruined than currently? There are more people who would DC over nothing than there are hackers. Removing the penalty just makes the game unplayable for everyone else. I generally don't believe the people who ask for the penalty to be removed have any intent besides "I want to DC because I got downed early and I don't want a penalty." even if they try to bring up some other excuse.

Agree. All the people shouting at the top of their lungs that people will DC, people DC all the time anyway. And if they have a large penalty already, they'll just run at the killer or unalive themselves on hook. The penalty isn't solving a problem.

Unfortunately like OP said, seems like most cheaters are in high MMR. You guys are the minority. The game would be in a worse state as a whole if DC penalties are removed. You see how these forums get flooded every time it’s disabled. Low-Mid MMR is where the majority of our population is, and appears to have the most ragequitters who abuse it. I feel for y’all in high MMR, but the DC penalty needs to stay in place in order to keep DC’ng from getting out of control.

BHVR needs to get their ######### together & remedy the cheating. This is one of many reasons why they SHOULD make a sequel to DBD, with a proper anti-cheat. Y’all seen the interviews with the hackers saying no matter what the devs do at this point, they’ll always be one step ahead due to how the game is constructed/programmed.
