Is this game dead?

Just went up against a huntress that claims the game is dead, what are your thoughts? I kinda agree with them just because both sides use the same perks most of the time.

I don’t know you could be right, but stats have showed player base is dropping or has been for a while now.

It isn't, though it deserves to.

I am going to assume you know the difference between dead and dying, and then in going to take a leap of faith and assume you know the difference between reality and exaggeration.

While I am 110% sure many would love to see it fail and die. No it is not.

    Not really no.

It has lost some players, but that was with a massive boost due to a huge collaboration as well as a Halloween time. Covid restrictions being loosened as well as a general drop from licensed chapters lead to this. When you compare it year over year, it has more players this January and the months before than it did previous years.

No, but it sure feels like it when you encounter the same build/killer game after game after game after game...

If you consider super long que time as dead, playing as survivor is pretty much dead game.

It is definitely in bad shape right now imo. It's been on a steady decline for the pass 5 months which is the longest it has been ever I even had a big drop when the artist released and there is normally a big surge during killer releases.

Last gen consoles are Still a mess from what I hear so I'm sure the console player base has dropped as well.

Mmr is not really a problem because it doesn't work. If you keep getting throwing onto matches you shouldn't and keep winning/losing over and over then your mmr number means nothing because it's based off a bunch of mismatches. Mmr only works if your getting fair matches.

This game needs to get it together because players will keep leaving.

Nah, and I doubt the trend continues. We finally have a hype killer. People are still playing the PTB for what is literally just a basic m1 killer and a fanfic version of Yoichi. She is clearly going to sell quite well and as we head into anniversary, we are going to be trending upwards even more.

The doom and gloom around the game is nonsensical. They have not been making the best decisions, but at the end of the day, we still have plenty of steam left to compensate for that. Lol.

In my opinion it’s slowly dying. The game is in Purgatory right now where it’s just the same cycle over and over and over. Never improves, it just gets worse while the player base rises once a new chapter releases then dips back down to where it was or even lower because the game hasn’t improved much at all. It’s been in purgatory for a long time. It’s on its death bed constantly getting defibed every 3 months

No it’s not dying. The game is fine we will see what happens in the anniversary event

The meta is becoming really boring for both sides. No one that I've met through dbd plays it anymore. Cheaters in 50% of matches. I absolutely can't blame either side for quiting right now.

I don't think it's dead, but it is on a downward spiral with brief up surges. Right now it's dipping in player base. Yes people are playing the ptb for Ringu, but a lot of people are waiting for the games coming out Quite a few people stopped playing when lost ark and dying light 2 came out. Not to mention Elden ring is about to come out, which is a huge title with a large fan base. Including quite a few of DBDs largest content creators. So it'll definitely lose some then.

And VHS is also one that has yet to be fully released. DBD has already lost a few players just to the beta alone. It actually has the potential to be a real competitor for DBD, which it needs. So I'm sure once there are more real options to play within the genre, they'll lose players to it as well.

It's a steady bleed that'll continue getting worse over time unless they actually start making real changes.

The game has lost over half of its player base on Steam, and they have been steadily losing players since October, but it's still clinging to life. But clearly SBMM has rubbed people the wrong way, and until they do something to fix it, this game will be on life support before you know it.

Dead refers to the size of the player base. That discussion seemed to be about perks, which has nothing to do with whether the game is dead or not.

    I doubt she sells well.

I haven't seen many people hyped for her or for the Survivor. Mostly I've seen people worried that she's way too weak.

    Dead? No.

    Bleeding? Yes!

I fully expect DBD to continue to bleed until either the developers fix a lot of the issues such as general map/perk design or until its no longer sustainable forcing DbD to be put into maintenance mode.

The game will die next Friday cause a game will be coming out to consume the SOULS of 3 popular dbd YouTubers. You could say the game is DARK

No, DbD is not dead, it still has something like 40k concurrent players on average on Steam alone at any given time.

That being said, the game is almost six years old which is quite elderly in video game years. For reference, some other games that came out in 2016 include and their average concurrent players on Steam as of the last 30 days (2016 was a good year for video games, I like a bunch of the titles from that year!)

    • Overwatch - ??? (Not on steamcharts but it’s still kicking)
    • Civilization VI - 39,036
    • No Man’s Sky - 5,341
    • Dark Souls III - 10,400
    • The Witness - 90
    • Titanfall 2 - 983
    • Dishonored 2 - 585
    • Battlefield 1 - 4,473
    • Final Fantasy XV - 509

So Dead by Daylight is neck and neck with Civilization VI on the Steam charts for games that came out that year. The great majority of games from 2016 don’t come close to that number of players nowadays. So the fact that DbD is still pulling in that many players is a testament to it having something special to keep people coming back and new players trying it out.

Ultimately the game will fade away though, it’s the nature of things. But it’s not like that is happening this month or even any time soon. But in the meantime it’s still doing very well for its age and still has new content coming in on a regular basis so it’s most certainly not dead.

It's not dead, and it won't be dead as long as DbD is able to introduce licensed characters to the game. Once there won't be any more popular horror licenses, then we can start talking about DbD being dead

  • SunsetSherbet
    SunsetSherbet Member Posts: 1,607

The game is losing players at a concerning rate. It's not close to dead, but losing like half your steam playerbase in half a year isn't really the sign of a thriving healthy game, to me. Some claims of the game being dead also come from new players who only try to play survivor and find out survivor queue can be up to 10 minutes or more.

They need Unbreakable, yet selfapplied Sloppy Butcher and Gift of Pain. Where is a irl Felix Visionary, who will reconstruct this game Build to Last, when you need one?

  • Swampoffering
    Swampoffering Member Posts: 384

Nah, is not dead but is slowly dying due to devs doing what they want and not what the Game needs.

The Game is not going to die because people stop playing It, It Will die because sooner than later, survivors queues will be insane due to lack of Killers, Nobody wants to play that role in the current state of the game and with the MMR ruining everything.

I used to be killer main, but after MMR release, I decided to play on Boost mode, rushing rift on less time possible and leaving the Game until Next one, It is better for me to play 20 days and rest 50 to avoid unninstalling It forever. A lot of streamers said It too, if they could maintain their audience, they will swap to other games because playing DBD every day (Killer POV) is like eating Nails, but they have to do It if they want to get a salary every month.

It is sad to say but devs are killing their own game, so if DBD dies One day, It Will be their fault, for listening just One side of the community and for their greed, priorizing skins instead of balance and bug resolving...

I Hope It never happens, not for people like Mr Patrick or Mr Mathew, for other devs that im sure they have good ideas, but money b**ches don't let them work.

If you want to see a real game in the death throes just peek over to Alien: Fire Team Alite. A fun hord shooter in the Alien universe that started with 15k stooked players, but it got too many problems that were not adressed, mainly matchmaking, no option to quick game and a lack of content.

Interest for the game has died off nearly completely and I will probably never recover, if no miracle happens. Compare that to DBD which has its losses and ups and downs (mostly downs), but still got its stable 40k-ish playerbase with 62k peaks at the weekends. DBD always has the chance of getting things right, the playerbase is willing to forgive, if the devs get some glaring problems reigned in. Progress is slow and we all hope that the dwindling killer base is a weakup call and something is done, but I am at least somewhat optimistic that things might get better during this year. Just ask the old foxes in chat how the game started, they will tell you that it was never in a better state ... which in itself is nothing to be proud of, if playing killer is regularly discribed as "eating nails", and as a killer main I must say that it ain´t THAT bad and I still very much enjoy it most of the time ... but there are also moments were I think "why go on with THIS!". Like yesternight, when I had 4 or 5 bully squads back to back, that was certainly no fun.

The Game is kinda dying ans i Hope it will so the Devs finally wakesup ans try to fix the Balancing

The Game is Survivorsided since Years ans the Devs didnt Care no they even try to make Survivor much stronger because they get more Money of them

More Killer Playing Leaving the Game because playing Killer is so stressful and rarely Fun. It is Fun to,play against 4 Dead Hard, CoH Players in a Row ans have to Break 5 pallets before u can get ur First Hook

I Really like the Game but i Hope it dies soon
