To anyone who left the game what would bring you back?

Phasmamain
Phasmamain Member Posts: 11,531

Was just thinking about what would actually bring me back to the game and would love to hear any ideas you have. Mine are these

  1. Actually taking map balance seriously. They had a chance with the realm beyond but didn’t take it. Maps are in general too big and loop chaining makes rng play too big a role.
  2. Getting rid of the stale meta. Fact is buffing vigil by a bit isn’t going to make me use it over DS or Dead hard. This goes for both sides. These perks are band aids for the game’s issues so ripping them off and getting to the root of the issue is the way to go imo
  3. If they are dead set on releasing a killer every 3 months making them unique is key. Sadako is nice in this regard but killers like artist drew up 0 hype and had no impact on the game past their initial release. I’d rather have a weak killer who brings something new to the table than a rehash of an older idea.
  4. More Jeff cosmetics (no more leather jacket and jeans though)

If these actually happened I’d probably come back but with how the game is I see no reason to.

the irony of asking in a forum about a game, what would make people who left the game, return to said game.

I'll come back if I just feel like playing the game... which I kinda do, which is why I'm here rn.

Yeah something to actually change up the gameplay would be nice even if it was a limited time mode

Unless they add an Until Dawn chapter, nothing for now.

I quit the game for reasons outside of DBD while I enjoyed the game at the time of quitting.

Yeah the whole NFT situation kinda just fell under the radar. I’d like to see a bit more clarification on it

Not a bad idea. Since the devs don’t want a second mode we could get some modifier type modes as compensation instead. Sure it’s unbalanced but dbd as a whole is so I don’t see the issue

My one friend really li,es the game so she convinced me to download it again to help her practice huntress.

    maybe... entirely possible.

tbf, ringu being added is pretty cool. but if they added fnaf I would 100% come back, and not because of fnaf, just to collect the salt!

A YouTube video about DbD making me remember the game and make feel like playing again.

At least this worked for me every single time I left the game in the 5 years I've been playing it. And I had pauses longer than a year.

I did play a couple trials here and there, but for me to play this game same as I did during the golden days, it would require a LOT of reversions.

Far too many to even list.

If they fixed Circle of Healing or Dead Hard (COH first) then I would come back and play killer again.

Freddy (obviously), every single map, Ruin, character models, animations, bring back Moonlight, Offerings, Splinters, revert Bubba's and Doctor's rework, revert Billy, and the list goes on and on.

    1. RPD rebalancing please. I think most maps are... fine outside of that. Cowshed and midwich are also worth taking a look at.

    2. Killer is fine, not perfect, but surv perks are getting really stale. And its not the players fault. You have to go out of your way to play a fun build instead of just ds dh bt ub part 445.

    3. I think there are so many killers now that the game is getting a bit bloated. I would enjoy some reworks instead of a new killer, like for freddy.

    4. Yes

Sadako more or less did it. After Artist, I was lowkey kind of over it. But then they announced Sadako way ahead of time so I never left. That being said, you know, once the Sadako hype wears off and I have had my fill, pretty sure I go on a long break. It depends on the killer after that, I suppose. My heart cannot take another Artist though.

Doesn´t has to be balanced, when its scary enough. Maybe test it first as a Kill your Friends modifier or something like that.

    1) new meta

    2) make fixing generators more interesting

    3) good skin for Yui

    4) and maybe something with the grind so i don't need to play for hours to unlock perks/characters/skins

    Any of the following:

    • Bots mode. Doesn't have to be super amazing and I don't even need BP from doing it. Just SOMETHING to practice using killer powers in, since the "killers will have their own MMR so you won't get destroyed when trying a new killer" was completely thrown out the window when MMR actually got put into the game.
    • Total overhaul of Pyramid Head's addons. PH has the WORST addons of any killer, hands down. Despite his power getting nerfed several times and all of his perks being reworked, his awful, totally useless addons have never been touched. It's a complete disgrace.
    • Reverting recent killer nerfs. I bought Deathslinger and found him a lot more fun to play than Huntress or Trickster. Then, like a week later: his whole power got gutted for no decent reason. What is the point of buying killers if they could get dumpster'd at a moment's notice, with no warning or justification?
    • Baking some kind of slowdown into killers by default. This could be kicking gens and actually causing damage (which is what it LOOKS like is happening anyway, and what every new player believes is happening). Or it could be making generators take longer to complete while there are 4 or 5 up, but faster to complete when there's only 1 to 2 left. Or making baseline regression after a killer kicks a generator to be 100% of normal repair speed (instead of 400% slower). Or making survivors with the Exhausted status unable to repair generators till exhausted goes away. Or something. Anything, really. Having 3 pop before the first hook goes out is completely absurd.
    • Giving killers a good reason to go chase somebody new, instead of tunneling or camping. This might be that survivors move slower if they haven't been hooked yet. Or killers get a speed boost when chasing healthy survivors who aren't on their last hook. Or bake in Borrowed Time but give the survivor the Broken status after being unhooked, so you don't have to worry about them getting healed up instantly. Or anything really.
    • Nerf boons across the board. 16m radius that doesn't go up or down elevations, give them a time limit before they automatically turn off, let the killer spend time to 'reverse' the blessing into a Hex that has the exact opposite effect the boon had, give the perks themselves charges just like med kits or tool boxes, and so on. Some kind of balance for the fact that one survivor perk is benefiting the whole team.
    • And lastly: Baking in a delay to survivors spamming Flashlights and Crouching. Yeah yeah, douchebags will find exciting new ways to be douchebags. That doesn't mean these behaviors should be tolerated. It's important to be able to turn on your flashlight and crouch at a moment's notice, but there is zero reason why you would need to do it again, immediately afterwards. Killers get cooldowns baked into everything they can do, why not survivors?

None of these are especially likely.

    EDIT:

    • Oh yeah, or a new Game Mode. They briefly mentioned that they weren't 100% against trying out a new game mode in the last thing, so that's a positive first step. They most likely aren't actually working on one, but something other than "fix five gens and open 1 door" over and over again.

DBD has serious design flaws that they are only barely fixing with perks.

    1. Repairing generators is the most boring part of the game, but also the main objective that's required to win.
    2. The most fun thing as survivor is getting chased, but the main objective incentivizes avoiding chases as much as possible unless you are trying to distract the killer.
    3. The most fun thing to do as killer is chase a survivor, but if you don't prioritize protecting the generators you could lose.
    4. The most optimal strategy for killer is usually camping and tunneling survivors out of the game as quickly as possible.

I would come back if they completely remade the game from the ground up instead of releasing perks to half-ass fix these problems, but that's not happening.

VHS seems to have fixed these problems, so I'm just waiting for that to come out then I'm done coming back to these forums.

they should just copy overwatch and make dbd 2. Honestly the game looks outdated and would probably look good if they made it now for the new gen systems. Introduce more modes to play with like a raid boss mode where like 20 survivors vs 1 killer with op buffs.take away all the rng, mori should be basekit, take away the bp cap in game an overall too. Every killer should have a unique music, and get rid of sets of cosmetics you can’t mix with other cosmetics.

Also, I still play the game but my bf doesn't. He installs it very infrequently, we play a few games, and he's reminded why he uninstalled and the cycle continues every few months.

He'd return if there was a good Legion rework, in his words. One that makes them strong and fun to play, playing against takes a bit of a backseat because it's mostly him that he's worried about for the moment.

Make boon totems not be infinite, fix tunneling, camping, genrushing, toxicity, cheating epidemic, practice with bots on all killers,co-op againts bots with 50% bps gain when you wanna chill and not play with real players, customizable menu background from previous chapter releases, dynamic loading screen.

Survivors don't cleanse which means she's an M1 killer and gets looped for days by survivors with safe pallets and dead hard.

I don't really know honestly. I just wasn't having fun as a killer, and survivor got boring too. As a killer I don't like how sweaty, humiliating and stressful it is.

I'm just playing other games instead, like FFXIV, Nier Replicant, Mass Effect Remastered, and Persona 4. I might be back, might not.

Honestly, the Ringu chapter announcement has brought me back because the Japanese film franchise is a personal favourite and I look forward to playing it. I'm still not thrilled with the current grind, the MMR system and the meta that encourages sh-tty gameplay but I'm hoping something will be done about it soon since the majority of the community has made their voices heard about how awful it is.

    1. Remove MMR

    2. Better balance on Boon totems. Either limit the number of uses, make the healing bonus non stackable, or require the killer to be in the area in order to function.

    Mostly number 1.

I still play the occasional game every week or so, but I've definitely lost interest in DBD so I guess I would consider myself viable for this post.

For me, it would be changing a few things:

    1. The Meta. Currently, for survivors it's been a pick from Dead Hard, BT, Iron Will, DS, Unbreakable and maybe Sprint Burst. That's been the meta for years now, and that is not what a game should do. For Killers is a little better with the perks actually changing somewhat, but it's always Gen defence. (Yet they never seem to look into why Killers NEED to equip gen defence. Huh-) See, a game's meta needs to shift, there'll always be things that are stronger than others of course, but DBD is the only game I know that's still being updated, to have not changed the meta at all for such a long period of time.
    2. Perk Bloat and the extreme grind. 3-6 perks every 3 months, 3 tiers to every perk. That's technically 9 - 18 perks per month. At level 50 it costs a good 50-100k BP to level up once, which is enough for two perks. That means it'll take a good 450k BP to get the three new perks on ONE character. You get about 28k BP a match. Each match lasts about 11minutes on average. It'll take 16 or so games to get one person leveled up, that's 3 hours without including the queue times or leveling up the new character who's perks you want. This is FOR ONE MAX LEVEL CHARACTER. You're screwed if you want to level up multiple, and especially if you want to level any new ones.
    3. Dev Transparency and PTB. Currently, we're at a point where we're told nothing until it's done, and then when we give any comments on our thoughts when it's added to the PTB, it's ignored. Look at Boil Over, Blight's old POV, Circle Of Healing, etc. The list could go on, all of which was commented on during the PTB, and nothing happened. Then there's stuff like the colour-blind situation, where that one dev whos name I can't remember. (The one that probably has a body pillow with statistics on it) was bombarded with questions until eventually the others told us they had been working on it for a while and showed off images. IF THEY HAD TOLD US BEFORE AND GAVE INFO ON HOW FAR IT HAS COME, PEOPLE WOULDN'T HAVE KEPT ASKING. How hard is it to just give a show and tell on what you're working on and what the plans for the game are? It's happening again with the 2nd change I mentioned, apparently they're working on something to reduce the grind. Are we getting any info about it? No. They're essentially saying "We doing it, trust." And leaving it at that. Then they're surprised when people keep asking about it.

I'm not even going to comment on the confusing decisions they've made, like making Legion lose a portion of their power when they hit someone, being able to know Spirit's exact location, nerfing twins even more when they're already dead, and so on..

  • cutiekiller
    cutiekiller Member Posts: 238
    1. Remove DH
    2. Rebalance all the maps with less safe windows/pallets
    3. Remove DS
    4. Remove MMR
    5. Remove CoH
    6. Remove unbreakable
    7. Punish actual camping and slugging and tunneling
    8. Buff nearly every the killers by making them stronger overall and add-on pass, making everything better
    9. Buff all the useless killer and survivor perks

Now i'll return, I play survivor here and there and 1 killer now, always been a killer main since 1.0.0 but playing killer is a pain in the ass and not enjoyable anymore.

Well, I've been away for months, several times. I usually come back when some broken mechanic is fixed (hatch, DS, ...).

I don't think I'll stay long though. Boons are a pain and the MMR sucks (I'm getting mostly extremes kind of plays, neither is fun).

Tomorrow, I may stop playing for a while again as Elden Ring will be out. If the new boon makes it into the game the 8th of March, I may not be back for a long time.

What would bring me back fast is the removal of SBMM/MMR.

I didn't enjoy it before i left as my games were mostly about 7 minutes as killer.

When i play killer i love to use different build, but when the games ends as fast as they start then the fun ends pretty quick.

Before anyone thinks i want to stomp new survivors, no i don't.

My games as survivor were basically the same i tried on purpose to prolong the game a bit.

But playing survivor only becomes really boring for me as it is for me very easy mode unfortunately.

    The things I am waiting for before I start playing again, and the only reasons I'm still visiting the forums;

    1. Better anti-cheat - Hackers have become a huge issue in the game, especially subtle hacking. Nothing that needs to be done about it is being done about it. They think they can make minor changes to stop the hacking and then start Mac banning addresses, but what they've needed since it became a problem was dedicate a small team of programmers to code in variables that straight up booted players from games and add them to a list for investigation. For example; A player goes out of bounds above the map, should get booted, suspended, and listed for agents to investigate. Then based on the investigation they would be mac banned or unsuspended. Also adding a recording system into the game to help with support/reports in general. More than half the reasons players get reported can only be acted on if there is video evidence, but nothing in game telling players they need that for the report, and nothing in game recording it - so a lot of reports slide by without action.
    2. Harder punishment and more updates to the game to discourage bad behavior. People shouldn't be told to kill themselves multiple games in a row for playing normally. It has gotten out of hand, and it appears nothing is being done to fix it. Actually instead we were told 'A bit of toxicity is good for the game'. A bit maybe, but when it reach levels of constant bigotry and suicide encouragement then there is a very serious problem with your game. A SOL update and more events / messages to encourage sportsmanlike behavior would be perfect.
    3. Balance changes to make the game more fun for both sides. I want to see SOL changes for solo survivor, and better balancing for Killer. Solo Survivor needs things added to the game to close the gap between Survivor and SWF. Other asymmetrical games have done things like voice chat, or proximity based voice chat, but I found the most successful communication in a Asymmetrical game was emotes and alerts. Add in the ability to make call outs, could be just an audio que that plays from a character - be careful you may alert the Killer or just simply a radial that pops up a message in a corner "I'm being chased" "The killer is near me" "I'm working on a gen", and get more emotes than just point and come. Stop balancing Killers to all be Otz, most people play this game for some free time after school/work. Their job isn't to play the game like Otz does. I don't know how that man puts up with playing the game 6+ hours a day, the man is an absolute legend. The game has a huge imbalance between Survivor and Killer because Killer is being balanced around being the best, while Survivor is balanced being new to the game, and playing on average - Survivor is balanced around "Is this fun?". Killer should be balanced around that too. Nobody has fun chasing the same 3 survivors around 1 loop while they all insta heal themselves after every hit, and then disappear when you go to snuff a totem.

Just these three things; Stop Hackers, Encourage sportsmanlike behavior, better SOL changes, and better - fairer balancing.
