Are zombies supposed to be completely mute around corners?
I'm honestly just sort of frustrated and I understand how this can be a comparatively small issue, especially given it can only be a real problem in indoor maps. But these damned zombie sounds.
Just got done with an RPD match which my team ended up losing because my friend went down to a zombie that was emitting no sound whatsoever and was just standing around a corner. At first we thought she was making up excuses and even poked fun at her, but when she clipped it and sent it to us, more people started to relate to that same situation. Sometimes zombies will just decide to make zero sound when they're behind even the thinnest of walls, and once you turn the corner they magically go back to normal.
Now I understand they're standing still and naturally wouldn't make as much noise as if they were moving, but still they should give SOME sign of their presence. Grunting, whatever that sound zombies make that resembles breathing is, anything. Currently they make no sound, and I'm not exaggerating.
I also understand that this is a very niche situation. But as a killer with little to no control over its AI mechanics, Nemesis is full of little things like these that start to pile up and become frustrating.

They need something to make them useful, they're sitting in some random corner stuck in a wall for 80% of the match.

I agree they do need improvements. I myself play Nemesis a ton and wish I had more agency over what my zombie minions are doing. But this just feels... I dunno, cheap? Some times, not very often I'll admit, I'll get random injures or even downs out of nowhere because some unfortunate soul ran into a zombie that problably gave no indication it was there in the first place. That is of course if I'm playing in an indoor map which is where this issue really stands out, there ARE dummies that just run into zombies in the open and I have no sympathy for them. Personally I don't feel very good when this happens. Like, yay, I got a down... Except I did absolutely nothing for it. Do you get where I'm coming from? There are improvements they can make to the AI that would make this simple of a sound fix not look like a major nerf.

I've gone down to a sneaky corner zombie. Fortunately I was playing Meg at the time so I could just blame it on the Meg curse, but I think it was chase music covering up the grawrr noises he made and I just didn't hear it.

The audio occlusion in this game in general is... odd. You'll move half a step a gen that's on 80% and was previously silent will suddenly go to max volume.

I wouldn't call the zombies cheap at all. They're the reason as to why his power is so weak to begin with. Not only that but survivors are only getting injured by zombies when they either refuse to vaccinate or use up the vaccines too quickly. Nemisis is intended to cut off survivors and push them closer towards zombies which is something that a non-infected survivor can take advantage of. I've managed to take hits from zombies just to extend chases and even catch up to teammates for a protection hits on multiple occasions.
The only real issue I have with his zombies are when they camp gens but even that can be countered with a flashlight. If you stun them in just the right spot you can also cut off Nem in indoor maps. I'd say they're a double-edged sword to say the least.

Nothing feels worse than seeing a stuck zombie next to a gen thats abt to finish.
Nemo deals with bugs, survs deal with bugs. Fair trade ig.
