Looking for the 5 Billy mains that are still around

I'd like to join you.

I know about the basic stuff like curving but is there anything else I should know about? Perks, strategies, do's and don'ts, etc. Thanks in advance!

Many moons ago, I loved playing the Billy man pre-rework. I haven't played DBD in awhile but I could probably still give some general tips

    Add-ons:

    - Would not be crazy to run speed limiter (brown add-on that gives more bloodpoints in exchange for chainsaw not insta-downing) for X number of matches while you practice getting better at chainsawing. Obviously you'll probably lose the matches if the survivors aren't braindead but it's really good practice

    - Lopro chains are pretty great in general and are really the only part of the rework that I enjoyed

    - Would recommend you're always at least running some brown add-ons. Otz made a short video comparing overheat add-ons, and the brown one is arguably the best and is a great default add-on you should consider running every match

    - Engravings are better than the were immediately after the rework but without being able to offset the charge time, it's mostly a matter of preference. If you are primarily using curves to get your downs, 1 or both engravings might be a good deal. If you're like me and balancing curves with backrevs, I've found I had much better luck without them. That added charge time can give you a lot of trouble (kind of like the opposite of the insta-saw problem)

    Perks:

    - If you're good with chainsawing, Infectious Fright is awesome. It's not quite as good as Oni in his power with Infectious, but it's up the entirety of the match, so you can be a monster in certain situations with it

    - Windows can be a big problem for Billy, so you would definitely not be crazy to run Bamboozle. It severely limits survivors' options if you block a window and start charging your chainsaw

    - Shadowborn can be a fun preference perk that helps a lot with backrevs, if you are having troubles there. I wish FOV was an option but if you are missing the majority of your backrevs, this perk does make that part of playing Billy much much easier

    - Otherwise, I wouldn't run corrupt on him (since he can immediately be on the opposite side of the map at the start of the game) but all other standard slowdown perks are great. Billy can also get a huge amount of mileage out of BBQ

    Strategies:

    - Feathering (keeping your chainsaw meter at 90ish% by repeatedly tapping) doesn't work nearly as well as it used to, but knowing WHEN to curve is ideal. Feathering until you get to a corner where a survivor is vulnerable to a curve (once a survivor is on the longest/straightest part of a loop, rather than near a corner they can quickly turn), that can potentially pay off

    - Otherwise, don't be afraid to feather while going for a backrev. Particularly useful tactic is if the survivor loops a small object like a tree, moonwalk to the otherside and saw their face off immediately. Seriously works like 90% of the time

    - Most of the time, you should be trying to get downs with your chainsaw. But if you've not gotten a chainsaw within 20 seconds of a chase starting (or if the survivors are at a very strong area), don't be afraid to just become an M1 Billy. Very easy to lose way too much time chasing a good survivor at a strong area

Biggest tip I can give you for starting is: Whatever you do, don't use muscle memory altering add-ons until you've learned his basekit, things like Lopro Chains and the Overheat add-ons are fine, but using speed/charge add-ons is going to make you crutch on them hard in the future.

Yesterday I was matched with Billy twice in a row! Aaaand they played him like Bubba, one even with Insidious.

So I'm not sure how to feel about this.

Do, change your controller sens to 100% if you are on pc and play with m&k, do try to curve most tiles even if you miss, stay away from addons like lopro, mother's helpers, start using engravings EVERY match even if you are using yellow.

Unsure what else to tell you when Idk what you are trying to focus on besides curves.

Not much but I have about 2.5k hours on him, feel free to ask for tips or advice, I will answer when I can.

I’d honestly recommend watching gtvel on twitch. I’ve been playing billy since 2018 and the only way to play him and have fun is double engravings.

Be careful if you use Shadowborn and/or Lethal Pursuer, its an unhealthy addiction.

Thank you for tagging me here Karu ^^ I always seem to miss threads that I'd actually be of use in.

    Perks

Let's start off with perks as that's the first thing you mentioned. Hillbilly usually excels with perks that do one of three things.

    1. Has a good synergy with his ability to go around the map fast.

Examples of this would be Hex: Ruin, BBQ or Tinkerer.

    2. Has a good synergy with getting downs with his chainsaw.

Examples of this would be Spirit Fury with Enduring or to an extent Infectious Fright.

    3. Has a good synergy with helping him get downs on loops that don't work with his chainsaw.

Examples of this would be yet again Spirit Fury with Enduring, or Bamboozle.

    Seeing as you're relatively new to Billy, I don't think it's a great idea to suggest the build I use, so instead I'm going to reccomend a few perks that you can mix and match. These are;

Hex: Ruin (with or without undying), BBQ, Spirit Fury and Enduring, Bamboozle, Tinkerer, Discordance, Infectious Fright, Lethal Purseur, Pop, Thrilling Thremors, Whispers.

The basic build I'd say would Be Ruindying with Bamboozle and then any perk between Whispers, BBQ or Thrilling, although at the end of the day it's your call.

    Add ons

Next up add ons. It's easy to tell to most people that his add ons aren't that great. So I'll keep this brief. His best add ons are Lopro chains and anything that reduces his overheat. Engravings are also good although usually I reccomend learning Billy without them first.

What you should try to do

Pay attention to what kind of survivor you're looping early in the game. When rounding corners with your chainsaw some survivors don't hug the wall out of fear. You can sometimes catch them out and use this to your advantage.

Know how to feather your chainsaw needed.

Be able to do mind games consistently with your red stain while revving. Some loops like shack can be amazing for you if you know how to do this and the survivor isnt paying full attention.

    What you should not do

Don't overuse your chainsaw or it will overheat often. Overheat is one of the common Billy complaints I see yet once you learn him you don't overheat too much unless you're not using his chainsaw correctly.

If you need to, don't be afraid to M1 them. Better to get a hit than miss three or four chainsaws.

    Finally

Be prepared to lose. Billy is, to me, the most map dependent killer in the game. If you get a bad map it can be game there and then. If you get a good map then you can dominate. Regardless, make sure to enjoy yourself playing Billy and remember that sometimes his shotgun is better than his chainsaw.
