Question for killers: when the survivor drops their item...
Do you let them escape?
A Dwight once dropped his flashlight in front of me when I was playing killer. I decided to give him the hatch because his teammate DC'd. (To top it off, I was playing as pre-nerfed Spirit.... in Lery's. The trial went on forever.)
Sometimes when I get saddled with unreliable teammates, I'll drop an item and hope the killer will show mercy. (I'll only do this when my teammates quit and I'm the last one in the trial.)
I don't expect killers to let me win, but I'll always remember the ones who do. (Shoutout to Nurse in Autohaven, Spirit in Red Forest, and Huntress in Yamaoka for accepting my items.)

When a survivor drop their item they're are not begging for mercy, it's a sign of respect because they had fun or because you have played well, at least that's the meaning for me and some people I know.
18 -
Yeah, that's how I take it when they're at the exit gate. But I think it has a different meaning during the trial.
2 -
If they played toxic I kill them anyway.
If they didn't play toxic I take it as an offering and an act of submission to losing. I typically give them hatch.
7 -
No, I don’t let survivors just escape. Never really got how that thing started, 🤷♂️
4 -
It depends. I let one person escape rather often anyways, whether they offer me an item or not.
If you were toxic or anyone on your team sent me to a bad map, then no, I'm probably just going to kill you.
If not, then you probably have a decent chance of me letting you get out. Bonus points if you're playing Feng, Yui, or Cheryl.

I take it as a friendly gesture and if they're the last person, or the situation seems right, I'll let them go.
The only scenario in which I'll ignore it, is if the Survivor seemed to be a detriment to their team or did any of the usual clicky/crouchy nonsense.

I usually give my item as token of respect. If killer played well and is letting me go im giving up my item no matter how good it is.
I don't beg for mercy to me killer has all right to kill me but if they decide to be merciful and let me go i might as well say thank you and show some respect to that person.

Most will in my case are as follows...
Players loop me extremely well and manage to get the doors open. I kill 2 of them but the two that loop me are at the exit door. They nod in respect to me as they drop their items for playing a fun game. Sometimes they let me slug them as they crawl out so I can get more points

Yes, donates matter
but if you dare to pick it up again, you are super dead.
3 -
usually no. ill just hook them and move on to the next match.
1 -
If they played well or their team played bad then yes.
If they were toxic or they played extremely poor then no.

I admit his defeat and most likely let him go. But not 100% cause I don't want to make survivors feel like they can buy their way out. So it works only with last survivor and if he was good.
Exception is if i liked survivor midgame. For example survivor during chase show me teddy bear picture. It was so awesome that i kept in mind it, so i killed everyone else and let her go.
There's always depends on situation but most likely i will let u go.
1 -
Nope.
0 -
Sure, why not? Unless I am on a challenge, in which case, see you in hell.
6 -
If I catch the last survivor trying to open the exit gates and he gives me an offering i accept it and let him go. But I don't accept t-bags or signs, only items.
1 -
Put it down and I’ll let you leave, pick it back up and you will learn what tunneling really is
1 -
I take it as a respectful thing and I usually just leave them alone for a bit and go after someone else.
1 -
It only matters if its a flashlight. Otherwise, theyve already probably exhausted their medkit/toolbox and the gesture means literally nothing.
2 -
that depends 100% on how they previously played and how my mood is in that scenario.
it should NOT be expected from the Killer to let someone go, just because they offered them their item. If the Killer does it, thats nice from them, but it should never be seen as the norm.
2 -
On a slightly similar note, as a killer, do you let survivors finish opening chests before you hit them?
0 -
If Im gonna let someone go I'd rather them keep their item, what am I gonna do with it?
0 -
As Survivor I drop my item at the exit gate as a sign of respect, or if I feel bad because it was a baby killer that got abused (i.e outplayed) during the entire match.
As Killer, I accept the item of the last survivor as a thank you. I usually let the last survivor escape. At my skill level, if I'm getting a 4k it's because they were total noobs, or the messed up/snowballed really bad.
1 -
I had no idea this was even a thing. The more you know.

When I play killer and someone drops an item (when they're the last survivor left), I usually will give them hatch/door, unless there's extenuating circumstances (they were toxic earlier in the match, or I'm doing a specific challenge that requires everyone to be dead). When I play survivor, I'll drop an item if I'm in a position of needing mercy, lol -- if the killer grants it, that's great, but I don't expect it.

I once blocked a Claudette because I had enough in that match. It wasn't fun to play against them on an awful map especially with huntress, so I decided to block her and stay AFK until she die there. They offered me items in order to release her. No. They were too cocky. I was sick of them. Then they asked me why I did that...It's obvious.

If a survivor drops their item, I see it as a sign of respect. I’ll shake my head and attack the item to show they can take it with them. It’s the thought more than anything that shows me respect. If they leave it that’s on them.

When I first started playing couple months ago, I noticed this trend. Took me a minute to realize what everyone was doing, but now I like that this is part of dbd culture. It's a kind of player created props and rewards system. I also like the pig's boop the snoot trend. Took me a minute to realize that one too. I played as pig and everyone kept butt dancing and pointing at me and dropping their items. Very confusing when you don't know what's happening lol.

Only rule I really do follow is to let someone doing sigil challenges finish before I attempt to get them. Specially if I catch them communing with the first white sigil.

I let a lot of survs go, but I almost always have made my mind up about that long before they set their item down.
How they played, how their teammates played (toward them), if/when there were DCs, etc. all factor in to my decision. Setting down an item never tipped the balance for me.

I tend to leave them alone than and come back to them after hooking someone else basically like a get out of chase card
Unless they are last in case I give them hatch
If they were toxic beforehand or I have a challenge which wants kills sorry but they dead
0 -
Me too. I'm genuinely curious as to how that trend started. I'm going to assume it was because streamers started doing it?

Well it depends. If you were flashlight clicking and tbagging, but I camped you to second state and you drop your item then. No I’m not showing you mercy. I like to meme around a lot so if you drop your item I’ll probably spare you. Nancy’s, Jill’s, Claire’s, and Kate’s will automatically escape with or without items so long as i am playing killer
1 -
depends.
I take dropped items at exit gate as an early "ggwp".
If a clicky-clicky person drops their flashlight I take it as some kind of apology or 'aight. enough with the trolling'.
If someone drops whatever they have randomly and it's been a chill game so far I take it as an invitation to meme and maybe get some challenges/rituals done. I'm usually down for that. (Then again, I only do chill and kill anyway) - If they pick up the item I take that as going back to business, count to three and chase them. If they just never pick it up again we just vibe til end of match. (which at that point usually just turned into bp farm)
If the last (or soon to be last) survivor just walks up to me / waits in an obvious location and drops whatever - or crouches or nods or any other indication of 'I give up' - I usually nod back and look for hatch with them (exception being clicky-clicky and no-reason-tb-people and the likes if they haven't come to their senses in the meantime. But then again. they usually dont last that long anyways).

I'm a sucker for the item drop. Even if they were being toxic before, I see the item drop as a truce/apology. I don't particularly care about taking the game too seriously and I frequently meme around with survivors/let them go.
2 -
Survivors spontaneously drop their item at the doors or next to the hatch when I've already let them live and leave. I don't ask for it and I don't mind if they don't do it.
It happens more often when I've purposefully not done a third hook several times.
I understand this as a "thank you".
Dropping the item when the game is still ongoing has no effect on my plan. It's more likely to get them downed though. And if I believe a survivor has given up (sad, I know), I'll finish him.
If you are a good survivor teamed with inexperienced ones, I'll most probably do my best to keep you alive until the end and kill the other ones after giving them several chances. Just play normally.

I only drop my item when I respect a killer's game.
I don't care about living at that point, I usually appreciate the skill and probably had a fun game.
0 -
I take the item drop as a form of groveling for mercy.
If you set the item down before me, and did not teabag or flashy clicky, I will spare your life.

i always make sure to get the most juice out of an item
"no,i dont need your empty beamer, bring me a fully juiced item, peasant"
i then down them and get them to a chest, they open it start healing,i immediatly hit and bring them to another chest to see if they learnt their mistake
0 -
Depends on the circumstances
0 -
Yeah, I do the same.
I'm not asking for mercy when I give an item, it's just respect
