Killer is in the most garbage spot it has ever been.
Wanna use a fun build? Get gens done before your first hook. Wanna play a killer you haven't played in a long while? Face this 2000 hour SWF team. Wanna patrol gens, so they don't get done in 2 minutes, so you hit and run? No problem, survivors just heal in the next 20 seconds. Wanna have any fun at all? Well, SBMM has got your back: why don't you face a noob team, 10 tryhard SWF gen rushing 2k hours squads, 3 fair games, and then repeat this cycle.
Remove SBMM once and for all. It is the single WORST feature EVER added to this game. Period.

I'd argue that it was in a worse spot post-ruin change and pre-toolbox change, as well as just 2018 and before, but also I can't really say that the game is all that enjoyable at current. SBMM fundamentally fails at judging skill, people have decided that pure efficiency is the way to go, and overall it's just not a good time.
I never thought I'd say this, but I actually miss Bully Squads over Death Squads.
19 -
the thing with bully squads was that you at least got to have a game.
was it fun? hell no. but most of these bully squads prioritized bullying the Killer over completing their objective and got overconfident very easily, which could lead to them failing and dying relatively easily.
nowadays you enter your first chase and by the time you hook them 3 gens popped and the game is pretty much over.
when i first joined DbD i usually planned for a roughly 20 to 30 minute long match when joining a lobby.
that went down to 15 to 20 minutes and by the time i quit i didnt expect my matches to last any longer than 10 to 15 minutes - and 15 would be considered a long match by me.
its weird, because the game was so much less balanced back in the day, but i enjoyed my games as Killer significantly more back then than i did by the time SBMM dropped (which was the final straw for me and the time i quit).

I disagree with that, to be honest.
Excluding the game around it and taking only the balance into account, I would choose things like Old DS and god-tier windows over insane gen rush and Boons without thinking twice.
At least those things I can and know how to deal with.
1 -
Nemesis release was the worst

Old DS, infinites, pallet vacuums, etc. were not at all fun to deal with imho, neither were they balanced. However, the sheer amount of unbalanced, crazy BS was counterbalanced by the fact that people were just terrible at DBD, they often had reliable counters (for old DS, you could juggle and/or run Enduring, for example- which was honestly a staple perk in every build I ever ran back then) but I can't say they felt at all fun. 2019-early 2020 was imho the pinnacle of playing killer, and then it all went downhill from there.
Like, I enjoyed the earlier times more than I enjoy the current times, but that's probably because I was newer.
What I can confidently say, though, is that the 30 minute long matches I used to have even if they were against Bully Squads:tm: were so much better than the 5 minute long matches we're stuck with today.
There's still plenty of issues with this game and it's overall balance and, while in some areas it has improved, in others it has substantially tanked.
Also the weekly dev streams were nice. I liked those.

Nah, I was still capable of playing killer. I have been playing for five years and this is the first time I genuinely feel powerless.
4 -
Fair enough. I'm a dedicated survivor main since 2017 so I wouldn't know
0 -
You think killer is at its worst state because youre going against some what skilled Survivors???
Youre not a victim for going against people your own skill level, and its ABSOLUTELY NOT the worst state killers have ever been in, that crown goes to 2017 DbD
5 -
I guess that you're somewhat right, but people also tend to forget / overlook that playing against a good killer of equal skill is fun, challenging and ultimately manageable, while playing against good survivors of equal skill is mentally draining, taxing, stressful and overall miserable. When playing sweaty you can reliable get your 2k and even eek out the occasional 3-4k,but unless MMR throws you a baby squad, you will have to fight tooth and nails over it and probably grow a few grey hairs, too.
The killer and survivor experiences are not the same at the higher levels of play, not in the slightest, and this seems to be not addressed enough.
The "Power Moves" achievement is somewhat fun and helps you to develop some good skills as survivor and I did it one evening during which I vastly improved my survivor gameplay.
The killer pendent "Tools of the trade" on the other hand was rive with frustration and tearing your hair out. I often played an entire evening just to get one of the five games done and the only thing I learned was that base killer perks suck monkeigh balls and that you have to play like a maniac in order to gain a merciless rating.

Nobody on console could lmao

That is a separate issue, not linked to balance/matchmaking.
Half of my playtime is from 2017, and I don't remember ever feeling as powerless as now. There were undeniably worse things back then, but at least people weren't as good and matchmaking made sense. Back then, it was like 1 in 20 games when I felt stomped. Now it is 1 in 40 games when I don't feel stomped.
4 -
I played 13 games straight as a killer.
I have 12 Brutal and 1 Displeased.
Complete bullshit.
My ######### hex ruin gets shitted on the first 30 seconds of the game. Im lucky if 2 gens arent done on the first hook i get.
0 -
Oh, but we removed infinites and added entity blocker/bloodlust so it's fine. /s
1 -
Killer is in the easiest spot it ever was.
2 -
Not as bad as solo queue but yeah.
4 -
Wrong. It's a fact, no need to debate.
Tried playing Huntress. First hook by 1 gen remaining. I don't think in my 5 years of palying I have ever felt weaker and more of a noob.
2 -
What? I am exclusively a solo q main nowdays and honestly it's SOOOOO much more fun after you try playing killer and get stomped. I used to think solo q is the worst role, but now it's really not so bad after playing killer.
I don't know: is it balance, is it MMR, is it just that I am suddenly bad after 5 years, I really don't know. But something DEFINETLY has changed, as I keep getting these garabage games ever since MMR was introduced.
3 -
My soloq is stuck in lowest MMR possible since my SWF stopped playing to play various other games. All I get as team mates are Urban Evading Selfcare users who don't know they have to touch gens in order to escape - nor bother to unhook anybody while themself going down after 5 seconds of chase.
I escape maybe twice out of 10 games - and thats if I am REALLY lucky with the teammates I get...

The meta sucks right now. I'll give you that. This is a terrible meta and the devs seem to keep leaning into it instead of addressing terrible map balance. Killers stack slowdown+NOED and camp/tunnel to generate pressure while survivors play a map offering with a strong main building and boon the crap out of the map. It's not fun gameplay.
2 -
Thats what I dont understand tho
Just looking at the killer experience through out the years it definitely got much easier as time goes on, but its also the most killers have been feeling as if they need to sweat more and more. And this isnt just because of MMR either since it was like that before it came out.
As some one who used to take this game WAY too seriously and got frustrated with literally every session I played, I recommend doing the same as me and taking a step back. Even if you feel as if you have reached the limit in your skill I can GUARANTEE you haven't. Go into every game with an open mind with the goal of winning but not trying your absolute hardest. Look back on every game and see what you could of done better and move on to the next while keeping in mind that very thing you could of done better last game.
Eventually everything will just come naturally without having to even try. I can ######### around all I want in my games with basically no effort
1 -
Haven't been to the forums in a very long time but I'm so pissed I decided to show up to say the same thing lmao. I mostly play survivor because I'm not as invested in the game as I used to, the devs have been consistently releasing worse and worse stuff with every patch, and I usually just play with friends to kill some time and distract myself from my daily life a bit. However, I decided to play a couple killer matches because I honestly missed playing killer and boy... it sucks. It really sucks.
My biggest issue are boons tbh. I've always said that boons are bullshit and don't run them much as survivor because I generally try to avoid exceedingly op stuff unless I have some ritual or challenge that requires me to escape and I wanna get done with it quickly. As killer, I... confirmed that I was so damn right about boons being bullshit. I am the Totems Cleanser. I know a thing or two about totems. And I can't understand why the HELL survivors are allowed to reboon multiple times? Boons are supposed to be like hexes. If the survivors find your hex and manage to get it cleansed, say goodbye to your perk. Same ######### thing should apply to boons? Specially given the killer doesn't have as much time as survivors to go around the map looking for bones.
I don't mind the boons effects. Give them any crazy effects you want. But stop this re-booning nonsense! It just doesn't make sense at all. Boons should AT LEAST have a cooldown, or a single totem shouldn't be able to be used to place a boon once per match. The fact that survs can reboon endlessly makes no ######### sense.
Having said all that, SBMMR is bullshit and shouldn't be a thing. It's clearly not working as it should. I keep getting sweatsquads when I haven't even touched killer for over 6 months. And as much as I'm against survivors having to hold M1 for longer, because I mostly play that role and find holding M1 absolutely boring, something has to be done about gen rush, because it makes no ######### sense that by the time I down a dude 3 gens have been done. Sometimes it's on me being bad or the surv being very good . Sometimes it's on the ######### map designs which provide an ENDLESS amount of pallets (just played in The Game so... yeah). But most times it's just... gen rush. Folks playing the most efficient way, which would be fine by me if it wasn't so... broken. If there was anything a killer could do against survivors splitting up and rushing through gens. Which I don't think there is at this point.
Sorry for the vent but I'm so pissed off. Kinda hope the soon to be released alternatives to DBD completely crush it so the devs wake the ######### up and start fixing things.

I wouldn't say the worst it's been as 2016 killer was a thing but yeah killers in a pretty bad spot.
1 -
Yeah, just be ignorant like most of those crying here.
0 -
Except killer back then were also more lethal with Mori's too or omega blink nurse, insta billy and other untuned stuff.
That led to more of a immersed playstyles that slowed down games to some extend and neither side new the really efficient playstyles.
2 -
I started off in 2017 and I remember being clobbered WAY more often than I do now, even throughout 2018 and a bit in 2019 I kept getting frustrated after a bit no matter what outcome I would get.
Then I adopted a certain mindset which I just dont care about the outcome of the game, but the outcome of me as a player. So every game no matter if I win or lose Id look at something I could of done better and I look out for those in future games. This is still something I do to this day al though not as much, since most games I still enjoy and just ######### around. Ive made tones of friends from playing killer and one of my main group of friends who've I been talking to 2 years now is because of a killer game.
There is literally no point in stressing out, youre not losing anything and youre not gaining anything. Just sit back and enjoy yourself. And if you cant find that in DbD, maybe it just isnt for you anymore

in the era of Scourge hooks and Dead Mans Switch, boy you lyin'!
1 -
i started running NOED on my mains, a perk i really hate, just because i play against such good survivors with my 2 mains that endgame is guaranteed in 4 of 5 matches. It's just sweaty every single game and i can't even think about running "fun" perks because the game would just be over in 5 minutes.
I feel you guys, on the one hand i think that the game is kinda balanced overall but on the other side it feels like current survivors skill combined with full meta builds and items is so overwhelming like it never was before. And the main reason for this is MMR, yes it made people "better" in a way that they learned to play more efficiently but the matches are generally not as fun anymore because MMR made it a sweatfest
1 -
And what people seem to forget always when they bring up old DBD is that back then people were so trash at the game they couldn't make full use out of those OP things. And as others have pointer out, killers also had OP stuff.
I don't remember having faced a 4 man BNP team back then, I don't remember facing bully squads, I don't remember facing gen rushers... Maybe because people literally only started to realize what things work the best and the meta wasn't formed yet.
I swear I am so done with this word "cry".
Complaining about issues is NOT ######### CRYING. The only way an issue is fixed is if you complain/seek help for fixing it. If people won't complain, the game wouldn't be changed
And yes, I like being ignorant. I am not going to argue with someone that just says his opinion as there is no argument to counter. I know very well what my killer experience is and I don't need people to tell me it was worse in 2017, considering I lived most of my playtime in 2017 and I know very well that I had a ######### ton more fun than right now.
1 -
In the era of grinding, boy I'm not! I have both dms and pr teachables unlocked since an eternity and I have yet to unlock those on different killers. I thankfully have Monstrous Shrine, Spies from the Shadows, Unrelenting and Predator on my killers.
1 -
Not to mention if you do "win". You'll get spammed with abuse. And then they all look up your profile just to leave -rep , like seriously...
1 -
I think it's not killers who is on garbage spot, it's survivors who is on actually good spot.
People got better, utilize everything they have, it made balance flaw of this game much more obvious.
2 -
not even close
1 -
Arguments, or just lying?
Also, another update: finally got a kill, thanks to devour hope. I proxy camped the last 10 seconds of a survivor during egc and got shitted on for using devour hope and camping lmfao.
0 -
the old days where way more worst, sabo was permanent, shack had 2 windows and tiles where see through. Also remember OG DS, The OoO SWFs,?
2 -
I remember that people back then used to camp pallets and hide in bushes. Stop bringing up old dbd, it's not a valid argument. Survivors may have been much more op than now, but they didn't know how to play properly.
1 -
stop bringing up old dbd? why because it breaks your narative? you said it yourself survivors where way more op
OoO only got reworked recently
not a valid argument? based on what? your post is titled "KILLER IS IN THE MOST GARBAGE SPOT IT HAS EVER BEEN"
they didn't know how to play properly? just like now, some did, some didn't
2 -
It doesn't braeak my narrative, it's just the fact that I debunked it 10 times already and I'm tired of doing it over and over again.
It really feels like most of the people never played back then and base their arguments on what they heard the game was like.
As someone that ACTUALLY played back then: 99.99998% of the survivors were garbage and didn't have a clue about the op strats they could use. It was EXTREMELY rare to get a team of people that knew how to abuse the broken ######### there was back then.
The reason "people didn't know how to play" works is because quite literally, as the game was new and people didn't know what OP stuff they had before their own hands, the OP stuff was barely ever used.
The only strat I remember being used more often was perma sabo, but iron grasp and agitation was meta anyway and they were MUCH better.

Yeah, I tried playing huntress for the first time and after 3 games the MMR decided it was time for me to go against 3k hour sweat squads. I don't play any other killer apart from nurse these days with ruin, undying, pain resonance, DMS.
0 -
Well as far as it goes it seems that only Ceno and Artist have working MMR for me, so at least there are 2 killers I can play.
0 -
Nice man. It feels like the killer community in this game is becoming extinct. A funny thing that could happen is if every killer main decided to go "on strike" for the devs to show some love and care to helping balance problems in the game that have been prominent for a long time. So many people are quitting, and I had to take a long break to stop myself from dropping this game. I wonder what the future of this game holds, it looks pretty bleak.
