My cousin had a epileptic episode from macro flashlights
My cousin suffers from epilepsy and those ######### survivors gave my cousin an extreme seizure. Foam came out of his mouth and it scared the living crap out of me. Can we do something about this, BHVR, or is it too much to ask for a solution? Because you nearly killed him.

I'm not exactly sure what "Proofs" you want from this person. If I saw what they did, my first priority would be getting them help, not getting proof for some random person on a gaming forum that it happened so that specific individual can believe it happened.

That sounds awful and I do hope they get rid of those macros. Thing is it was really irresponsible for your cousin to be playing games in the first place if they're that sensitive to these sort of triggers. I refuse to believe that a condition this severe could have gone unnoticed.

With the changes made to Sadako to address these kinds of concerns, I hope we see changes to flashlights/Doctor to help people who deal with these medical issues
Doctor isn't as bad as he used to be for it iirc, I remember it being much worse a couple of years ago

Yeah, don't count on it. They only patched sadako because it affected survivors.
Despite years of epilepsy concerns for killers and macro flashlights, actual player health will never be more important than a toxic survivors ability to harass and bully a killer player.

Games and media that can trigger epilepsy come with a content warning. BHVR really need to add one.

The BHVR staff almost at once responded to the Sadako reports, but are ignoring this one. Frankly surprised they didn't remove it entirely, because they are clearly committed to never removing flashlight macros.

Are you serious this game doesn't have a warning? I don't have that problem so I don't really look for it bit with the doc alone justifies there been a warning.

Places you normally see it - on the store page/physical box, in the manual/EULA, and a warning when you load the game. There's only mature content warning on Steam and the manual link is 404. No mention of Epilepsy or photosensitivity in EULA. Also the game is lacking some content warning when you load it.
Maybe it is mainly put to protect companies from being sued. I think Nintendo and Playstation have general warnings.
In case of Cyberpunk 2077 it took a journalist PSA for them to add one.

Not sure why would anyone need proofs about this. Macro flashlight clicking or even normal spam clicking of the flashlight causes me NONE epileptic person a headache after a while and makes my eyes really strained. So imagine what it actually does to someone who suffers from that condition.

if you play on PC you can use low settings to make the FL bean an opaque effect instead of lighting. Switch has it by default too. Unfortunately low settings, specially for performance as requested, haven't been addressed on PS and Xbox platforms

but… I really can’t imagine to suffer from epilepsy and not inform myself before playing a videogame. This is a well known and often talked about issue, not only on the forums but on other social media as well. Obviously they need to address it but in the end, it’s your health you are putting at risk so please in regards to videogames - inform yourself even if there is not a warning.

I have to be blunt here and say that a person with serious epilepsy should not be any where NEAR a game that has a flashlight or anything that allows fast on & off light feature.
I mean, what was your cousin doing there in the first place? KNOWING DBD has flashlights that could cause something severe.
Feels more like short thinking on your part as a family member than the game/players' fault.
That's like me, bringing my cousin to play a clown game when I know he has Coulrophobia and being surprised when I see him foam at the mouth.

The game should take greater precautions. If they can't fix the issue they should at least do the bare minimum and provide a warning somewhere. But there isn't one- not in-game, not the Steam profile, not on Switch boxart, nowhere. They should take some responsibility too.

The game does not inherently have epileptic tendencies to begin with. It's what the players do that causes it. It's not the game's fault for what players do.
Same goes to the OP, a player that should know that DBD CAN cause epileptic seizures due to the nature of having toggleable flashlights. Unless the OP was a newbie that didn't even know the existence/function of a flashlight, he/she should NOT have brought an epileptic family member to play a game where such outcomes could happen.
That's the OP's fault, not BHVR's.

I am with you that the person should have informed themselves.
But the game does have other issues for photosensitive people/people with epilepsy outside of flashlight macros/fast clicking, eg Doctor or some lights on Springwood I think. Those may not be as severe or affect as many people but it’s still an existing issue.

But something as minimal as the Doctor's electrics or lighting in some maps should not cause anything too severe even if you have photosensitive/epileptic people. And if you say it could then those people should stay away from video games to begin with.
What I'm criticizing is that the OP is blaming the game/players for macro flashlight clicking when he/she KNEW that such things were to happen regardless of whether or not the game had a warning sign.
He/she should've known better.

Letting someone with epileptic issues play a game where this can happen may indeed not be the best life decision.
But the gist I get from the OP is basically asking to BHVR to make it so the flashlight cannot be used as a stroboscope.
They could make it so a flashlight cannot be clicked more than twice per second, and break it if the server detects more than that (because some cheater will probably try this).
A better way would be for the client part of the game to simply not allow this to happen even if some survivor is clicking 60 times per second.

The cousin could've had a stroke and even died! These things piss me the hell off, since it was completely avoidable if the OP had common sense from the beginning.
I'm not arguing with you on warning signs. I want them too. But what I'm iterating is that DBD is always going to be bad for those who are photosensitive. So as a responsible human being, keep people away from these types of games as much as possible if they suffer from it.
Those people shouldn't even be anywhere near a game like DBD.

I've used to be angry about this kind of stuff too. When I was in my twenties, too many people I knew (nine, about one each year) died because of completely avoidable bad choices. A couple more when I was in my thirties, including an ex who wanted someone with a more exciting life style (I'm a STEM type). I'm numb to it now : what's done is done. Let's see the problem fixed.

Funny how you assume they made them play it automatically it instead of you know them watching them play it or the most likely scenario asked if they can play also this could've been the cousins first epileptic episode ever so the op would've had no reason to worry about a epileptic episode

So let me get this straight:
A) The cousin didn't know whether or not he was epileptic, which would mean he would've been quite young since most photosensitive people know their predicament when they're in their early teens. That would make the OP even worse since DBD is for 18 and over.
B) Don't assume that the cousin was forced to play DBD. Fine, but the OP was clearly aware of his presence and must've known the cousin was there watching him play. Under the assumption that he did not know his underage cousin was epileptic, he continued to play a violent game that literally was meant for adults who do not have any problems with flashing lights next to someone who was the opposite of both prerequisites.

If it takes them 5 years to add in a colorblind mode (which almost every single modern game ships standard with) I don't think you can say they care.
They clearly cared about the backlash, but if they cared it would've been in the game in Year 2, not Year 5.
Likewise, there has been talk of flashlight macro's being detrimental to people's health for YEARS. They give me a headache, but nothing as dire as what OP described. There is Z E R O reason to allow people to spam click a flashlight tens of times a second.
This isn't an us vs them. This isn't a "wah, clicky clicky flashlight." This is a legitimate need. Either BHVR needs to actually put photosensitivity warnings in their game (they do) or they need to stop people from input spamming their flashlight.

Why on earth was his cousin (who we now know was known to have epilepsy) watching a horror game that tends to be darker than other games with flashlights being a core part of the gameplay? and with him (the OP) KNOWING this fact?
