Remove the Chat Filter.

Why is there a chat filter in a game rated M FOR MATURE? The answer is because people who play this are NOT mature. This should be removed, since the game's rating states those that are under 18 should not be playing it. It's also very broken and censors random things. If people can't take angry/trash talking in the post game chat, play Animal Crossing then.

Why is there a chat filter?

Because the people who threw around slurs ruined it for everyone else, per usual.

I wish we could add in words that are also being filtered.

I mean it´s surely great that Iri/iri/lrl and every other iteration of Iri(descent) is being hidden but why can´t i add in some words to the filter as well?

If you can easily throw in words to be ignored by the censor, someone else can just as easily throw in various spellings of the n-word.

I honestly just wish it was... simpler?

None of the weird attempt at context-reading or whatever. By all means filter vile garbage like slurs, self harm encouragement and common filter dodging spelling alternatives, and make it an inherently bannable offense to circumvent the filter. But whatever we have now is just bizarre.

I joke about games doing wild stuff like filtering "assassin" because it contains "ass" even though the game has characters that are actual assassins in lore and class name, but I'd rather have that lmao.

And Steam's own filter solution is honestly fantastic and I hope devs copy it. Preset filters like "no filter", "slurs only", "slurs + strong profanity" AND with a custom blacklist the player themselves can fill with whatever they want.

Have chat disabled by default make it opt in. So much of peoples frustrations would be solved this way. Does anyone actually have fun postgame chats because for every 10 games only one end game chat is actually pleasant.

I think it´s gonna be pretty hard to find another word for gg ez, baby killer and camp/camping/camper.

Call of Duty lobbies are more toxic than a DBD post game chat. And there's no filter in those games. Why? BECAUSE IT'S RATED FOR MATURE AUDIENCES!!! Having a chat filter means you 1) Acknowledge your game is played by minors, and 2) Are catoering to the audience that shouldn't be playing the game.

This would make things much easier, as trying to have a normal conversation, and having to change your words cause it thinks you said something bad, is just annoying. Like I can't say Iri instead of Iridescent for whatever reason, it censors in game character names like Yui and Yun-Jin half the time.

This is just another reason why it should be togglable or taken out.

    A toggle would fix that

I don't care if it filters profanities.. but it also filters some character names and perk names, it's ridiculous.

"M for Mature" doesn't mean people should be allowed to use slurs, ever. And really, that's pretty ironic, if you think about it.

And because other lobbies are worse doesn't mean BHVR should set their conduct bar lower. If they want to have higher standard for conduct, I am all for it. It's their platform and if they want to mandate that people only use it to communicate in a civilized manner, that's 100% their right.

Now the execution leaves something to be desired, for sure.

I could have sworn that the chat filter was a feature we had to opt into and could be turned off at a moments notice. Did I get sent to the berenstain universe or am I just mistaken?

The funny part is I've seen certain profanity slip through. Yet plenty of harmless words get censored.

I made a thread about this as well, with some pretty good/extensive responses.

Every single person is in full agreement that it's a terrible filter, and that has no place in a game that's rated M.

Devs and community manages refuse to respond to this issue the community keeps on bringing up and feels strongly about, but they do manage to make plenty of time to talk about peoples pets or other inane crap.

Make of this what you will.

not only should they remove the dumb filter, they should enable in game chat for solo q survivor so the game is playable.

You can creatively tell people to off themselves by wording it elaborately, but game mechanics are censored because you said "Kill". It's a bit stupid to be honest... I don't care if my rage talk is censored, but a normal end game chat being censored cause you said "they killed themself on hook" is dumb

There are only 300 people working on this game.

There is no way they can spare anyone to update the chat filter. BHvR is a small indie company and they don't even have the money to buy a chat filter from another company.

In conclusion if you want to improve the chat filter buy more mtx.

On one hand, developers should not feel compelled to limit the speech used on a platform, as it is not their responsibility to police all that other say.

This being said, certain levels of vile, distasteful, and evil speech can and HAVE been used - so I completely understand where the dev team is coming from on this one.

They have the power to stop legitimately evil things like slurs, suicidal encouragement, solicitation, or legitimate threats.

However, I honestly do feel like they have taken things a bit far. There are times when I cannot congratulate a person because of language. I once couldn't address a person by their screen name because the filter thinks 'milk' is a bad word, which is a bit silly.
