Does Dead by Daylight NEED Operation Health?
New content from Dowsey but also good question. Do you think DbD needs operation health?

Not exactly? I mean there are definitely some things that need fixing. But it's not too terrible aside from bugs. Really just fixing the broken maps and tuning down some perks is all that's needed currently.
1 -
Yes, it does. Everything needs to be recoded from the ground up and a lot of rebalancing needs to be done.
26 -
Not really

i still insist that the developers, whether consciously or unconsciously, whether they deny it or not, rely upon a revolving door of customers. This game is addicting and exciting at first, perhaps even entices you to spend $$, but eventually it chews most people up and burns them out.
The fact that most new people from, say, the RE chapter did not stick around literally does not matter. As long as they can chew up and spit out new cannon fodder every few months, player retention is irrelevant. Therefore, Operation Health is also irrelevant.
4 -
Absolutely. Polish existing content.
6 -
Yeah i think same. 3 months, no chapter, no new content. Just fix issues: Grind, better report system, better anti-cheat, re-balance maps, buffs for weak killers, nerf for some busted add-ons, re-work skill check system, nerf Bubba's facecamp etc. I can list more. They can make DbD great again.
13 -
Yes it desperately needs one,I wish BHVR did what games Dowsey mentions in that video did.
They have no ideea just how much it will boost the playerbase if they fixed the core issues of the game.
5 -
Yeah i think yes, i made an 50 pages of recommended fixes some years ago and never got even heard, and some of these was so good they did it on their own (clown yellow bottle). Fixing the game is needed but the code doesnt allow them to do so, they need to "overwatch 2" the dbd code, and being open that they are doing that, so people understand they are not horsing around.
Some perks need to get switched off and fused with other weaker perks, after that we can rework the greyed out perks. This would reduce the grind immensly
2 -
Do I think it needs it? Yes. Do I think it will happen? Probably not. Player numbers aren’t dropping enough yet, and those who are leaving aren’t all leaving because of game health issues. Until players start leaving in droves specifically due to game health issues, there’s little incentive for the devs to spend resources on a game health “chapter” and forgo revenue from new content.
1 -
I would say yes and that if they did operation health they would probably see a huge increase in players. Which is the best way to increase players than "trying to release new content every 3 months". Sure licenses are nice and all but its a matter of time until new players realize they're just a spike and that 90% of players gained from the license are gonna quit a couple weeks later from how horribly optimized and unbalanced the game is.

Yes, it has been in dire need of something like that for a long time, at least stop releasing Killers so they can get new ideas.
Lately most Killers have been a mix of already existing powers albeit made weaker to compensate the huge basekit: Sadako = Freddy teleport+Wraith stealth+ Jigsaw RBTs, Artist = Huntress range attacks+Trapper trapped loops, Pinhead = Deathslinger aimed shots+Clown slowdown, Nemesis = Pyramihead without boxes and less range but it can break pallets and has zombies... etc etc etc, having a 6 month without releasing content will allow to release better and more original powers instead of "Hey lets get this thing and that thing and mix it together!".

Might as well start working on dbd2 at this point. Im sure bhvr is just itching to sell us all the license content a 2nd time -.-
0 -
At this point, might as well start from scratch and make a DBD 2. I don't see them repairing the spaghetti code that is current DBD in any meaningful way that doesn't completely break the game.
2 -
I'd never buy a DBD 2.
2 -
If that happens EAC support would stop and then people would mod the game back onto P2P and keep playing DBD 1 while BHVR gets no revenue. While DBD remains a viable product it will most likely continue to get support. People talk with their wallets, after all, and a lot of people wouldn't pay for the entire game again. Absolutely not.
1 -
Same. I would not buy chapters again. Don't wanna talk about grind either. DbD is already good game, they just need to fix issues.
2 -
No, it's good enough for the casual gamer. Not only that, but people don't like to talk about how it can be FUN to find out about bugs and exploits. At this point in the game, it's part of DBD's legacy and I accept that for all it's worth. As far as balance, that's good enough too. It's not worth their time to fix most of their mechanics-- from blood webs to maps to perks to items and offerings --it's a waste of time to do it all at once.
They need new content to keep the game alive. I don't know of one game that has lowered their expansion releases and kept their same player numbers. It usually drops. Lack of content = a dying game in a lot of peoples eyes, including mine.
1 -
Nothing says fun to me like being trapped inside of a hill, permanent speed boost + wallhacks, and your game crashing from nowhere because someone had a perk equipped.
0 -
I agree,I know that games having bugs is normal but the amount of gamebreaking bugs this game gets is NOT normal.
0 -
They need to hire better ppl for the balance team. Ppl like Otz.
0 -
I would like a bugfix balance chapter.
I think they won´t make DBD2 that fast - too high risk to split the playerbase.

The last 5 i think original killers i bought with shards. Just because i wasnt hyped up for them. Oni, blight, twins, trickster and artist. In fact i only unlocked twins for hoarder because i was using pinhead. I only got trickster for star struck. This wasnt spent the day they released. This was weeks, sometimes months after. That shows you how much i play dbd these days.

Why isn't this a poll? I think that'd be a better gauge and maybe the devs can get a better picture of what the community thinks?
I'm all for quality of life improvements, balancing and bug fixes right now. In a year, we can go back to new content. Just an idea.
0 -
Yes all of this.
0 -
This I whole-heartedly agree with. Get 3 or 4 people that play both sides, survivor and killer, as advisors, such as Otz, Scott Jund, etc etc. Only do balance recommendations from those advisors.
Maybe limit the amount of changes per patch to 10 or less.
1 -
The devs aren't stupid, and I feel like this is something they are considering, the game struggles to run on even high end computers, I have an alright CPU, but it struggles to run the game at a playable framerate. If I can play Doom Eternal at an fps more consistent than DBD, a game with the graphical fidelity of an early 2010's sports game, then that should tell you how awful the optimization is for this game.
0 -
So we would be fine in like another 5 years? Nah, they need some overhaul patches now. But that will never happen, devs are too fixated on new content, whether its good or not. There is basically no QA.
1 -
Yep, they should have done this ages ago, the game still has so many balance issues that taking a break from adding content and focusing entirely on health would be a good move.
The reality of the situation is BHVR won't do that because in order to do that it means no money from new chapters for however long they would need to do this. They care more about money than they do game balance.
The only thing that might get their attention is if the player base dropped massively or if more people stopped giving them money.

You know, with the last mid chapter we effectively had health chapter, with way more bugs being addressed (esp. long standing ones with Nurse) than content being added / adjusted. And what happened? Constant bitching and complaining why there's not more content.
It feels this community's whole purpose is complaining and shittalking the devs. They tell time and time again that BHVR should skip regular releases and focus on health, and then when the devs actually do something remotely in this direction, thats also totally wrong, lazy, greedy, whatever.
At least thats my impression recently ...
2 -
DbD is losing playerbase. I mean game is not dying for sure but they are not going well either.
0 -
Balancing yes, bugfix not so much.
0 -
I mean yeah... but it's too late for that, any meaningful changes will take years to implement.
0 -
People complained for last mid-chapter because it had not any major fix except Nurse. Nobody said "Why there is not new content?". Everyone said this changes are so less for mid-chapter. Don't blame people for things they didn't do. Last Mid-Chapter was pretty garbage except some minor changes.
1 -
I remember so many complaints about missing content, but whatever. "Everone said this changes are so less for mid-chapter" yeah, and thats typical for a health chapter! Bc if they improve something like code quality, there is no imidiate benefit for the players to see! And with Nurse, they had to reimplement the code from scratch with Dedicated Servers in mind. So if you want to have health chapters, you gotta expect to see less or even no gameplay changes at all! And thats simply not possible with this community ...

Yes.... as a matter of fact we do need some sort of big balance and bugfix patch
But with the way the game is handled we won't get it anytime soon
Fixing Maps... I.E Spawns for Killers, Survivors, Gens, Totems and Loops
Lowering the Grind... I.E making a "market" to exchange things, getting rid of perk tiers, Giving out more BP (per match), Making things cheaper (might be a way to go)
Balancing Perks, Items, Addons and Killer Powers... I.E COH, NOED, making certain perks Basekit and making new perks for those basekited perks, Adjusting Medkits (or healing in general), Making Sabo take (a little bit) longer, Changing perks that aren't used much/ Too much, Making all Addons work (having "meme" addons doesn't make much sense, Plus really strong Addons can be changed... Video Tape)
I mean recoding the game maybe a thing that goes through the minds at BHVR... but that's not possible at this point
Having all of that in one patch would do so much for this game
0 -
If this keeps up they may finally start to consider an operation health
0 -
Yes.
Why? Yes
0 -
Don't really like Dowsey so I'm going to skip the video. Yeah, I think this game needs a lot of work... buff weak killers, buff soloQ, fix super strong loops, nerf busted addons, perks, etc. The list goes on and on. This game is in a very bad state right now
1 -
The fact game is in a very bad state and yet it's still better than ever is something I find really funny.
0 -
I'm not sure what you mean?
0 -
I mean literally, like it's order of magnitude better than old days yet it's still in very bad state, I find it funny how ridiculous this game is.
0 -
Agreed! It's much better than it used to be, but it still has so many problems. It's frustrating to play on both sides a lot of the time.
0 -
it's only NOT broken in lower MMR regions, as soon as everyone knows what they're doing, some maps are literally unwinnable for some killers. Just had a match with Wraith on The Game... they don't care much about balance because they want the game to be a casual, suprising experience were everyone is just doing what they want and every match feels different.
The problem is that most people play for winning and the MMR made us leave all the meme perks and add ons and forced us to play super efficient every game, which led to every game feel the same kinda. And only then you see how badly balanced some things are...
