Onyro is really good - anyone agree?

For several reasons:

  • Her teachables are so good and have amazing synergy with each other. I've been running her three teachables alongside Pop and can pressure gens really well. Brine, Merciless, and Pop all work so well together and I think I prefer it to Pain of Resonance/Dead Man's Switch combo. Gen gets blocked at 90% if they miss a skill check, which gives you time to teleport over and hit it with the Pop/Call of Brine combo. A nearly completed gen can be absolutely destroyed within seconds.
  • Her map mobility is really strong and feels a lot smoother/faster than other killers with this power (Demo/Freddy). If you're good at predicting survivor movement, you can catch them off guard by teleporting. Also, I've surprised so many by using Floods of Rage and teleporting to their location.
  • If you're smart with her power and manifest around corners/out of survivor's field of vision, it's so easy to get free hits/gen grabs with her undetectable status when she's manifesting.
  • She's really good at 'hit and run' which applies a lot of map pressure and survivors will waste time healing. Her only real bane is CoH but I think that applies to most killers.

I think she's pretty awesome from a design perspective, and I love how her three perks really complement and work in synergy with her power. Not only is she super creepy and fun to play as/against, but it's so refreshing to have a killer whose power is something other than anti-loop (😴).

I like her and doing pretty well with her so far.

But i know i am kinda mid MMR. In higher levels she might not work so good anymore.

She needs a little love and a few small adjustments, then she would be perfect. I love her too and her assets harmonize well.

She is cute. Fun power. Good synergy with slowdown perks.

    I loved her.

Yeah! The Onryo is really good as is! She does not need anymore buffs... and this is coming from not-a-survivor

I enjoy her a bit, but I'm not sure I'd agree that she's really song. I do feel like I can say she's the second strongest stealth killer in the game, with wraith being at the top. Her stealth is very similar to his, with the distinction that she doesn't speed up after manifesting, she doesnt speed up while stealthy, and doesn't make a noise that declares when she's using her stealth. Those speed boosts that wraith gets give him a huge edge over Sadako when it comes to map patrolling and chasing.

On the topic of mobility, she's an interesting one. Sure, she can teleport and wraith can't, but when she teleports to a TV, it becomes inactive for a default of 60 seconds, which is a kinda long time. I'd definitely say her teleport is stronger than Freddy's. She can use it in chase about as well as him, and she can teleport multiple times in a row, and she can still use here teleport when all gens are completed. I'm not sure if it's truly stronger than Demo's though. I'm also not sure it's weaker though. Demo gets to choose where he can teleport to and Sadako can't. Of course the upside to not choosing where you can teleport to is that you don't have to waste time on setup at the start of the match. Demo's portals also take much more time to disable. This means that survivors spend more time not working on gens if they want to disable teleport, and demo can interrupt them by teleporting to a portal being destroyed. Sadako definitely can't do this with TV's.

Hit and run is also a very precarious strategy right now. Survivors have a strong healing meta going on right now, which is a bane for hit and run playstyles.

TLDR; She's fun, but not super strong. Her stealth is one of the better ones, but not the strongest. Her teleport is better than Freddy, and comparable to Demo.

I love her. I love the character and I love playing her.

One thing I specifically want to agree with OP on, I think her mobility is excellent. Lots of people crap on it, say it's inferior to Demo's portals, I don't think it is. You can really pressure with it.

Did they lower her cooldown? It was 100 seconds.

Her lullaby hurts her stealth imo I've noticed survivors start w keying as soon as they hear it. 24m is about 5 seconds from when the survivor cab hear it to when you make it to the gen that's a big head start.

As a stealth killer, sure she's good.

But stealth killers simply aren't good right now.

While I'm not going to say she's perfect

She's 100% the best way BHVR could've interpreted this character into the game without making her a cookie-cutter anti-loop killer like they did with rework freddy

I hope he doesn't mind the tag but @PixelBush put it best, in one of his videos he said he'd prefer killers to be unique and on the weaker side than strong but ultimately bland and this is the best way to put how I feel about Sadako.

It's 60 seconds if the survivors turn it off. AFAIK, it's still 100s if you use it.

I've had a lot of trouble with Sadako, I find looping her so difficult. She's quite a small killer, so you have to pay such close attention to where she's going. To me, it also looks like she doesn't have to manifest to hit you, not sure if this is true, but it looks like she does this while 'invisible' and then becomes visible when hitting you.

  • Gamedozer7
    Gamedozer7 Member Posts: 2,657

Wow I didn't realize it was so long when survivors turn them off. Both those cooldowns need to be lowered without her tvs she's just a m1 killer.

  • WeenieDog
    WeenieDog Member Posts: 2,184

Yeah it is pretty hefty. Luckily for Sadako, condemned status is so irrelevant that most won't go out of their way to turn off tvs.

I like her design, but she's unplayable against good survivors. If there isn't a weak link in the game, good luck because even if you win more mindgame than you lose, she still just slowly chases, her tv placements are suspect, and if you pay attention to her she can get you off guard. I really wish she worked as is, but unless there is something to change the meta where she can be good (or she actually gets some buffs) she's just frustrating, to play, I literally can't play a stand to many games with her and I love Trapper, Wraith, and Legion.

How is it hard to loop a m1 killer, they cant do anything at any loop, as a survivor you have full control of the chase and if you are distracted or misjudge a distance you can just dh, I dont get really how looping a m1 killer has any depth.

  • IronKnight55

I don't think she's really good if you're against good players. They will turn off the TVs (forcing you to walk everywhere), loop you for eternity, etc. With that being said, I'm still having fun with her.

  • Gamedozer7
    Gamedozer7 Member Posts: 2,657

It's smarter to just shut off and deal with what little condemned you get I've noticed. It seems like my hardest games are when survivors are turing off my tvs and I have to walk around.

I feel like i am going against cheaters when i see posts like this.

I have tried to use the tv's offensively in a chase and the survivors always hear it and run the opposite direction.

Nobody gets caught out by manifestation now that they know what the lullaby sounds like. The only gen grabs i have managed to get are from plaything or tinkerer.

Tv cooldown is to long and survivors turn the tv's off if they are smart since the condemned offers no threat.

I'm having a good time with her for sure, got a 3k with her just now (last person beat me out the door somehow, I think I missed spotting them opening it). Personally I rate her a bit above Wraith for what it's worth, her stealth feels a lot more fluid than his.

  • ManyAchievables

She is objectively worse than Wraith.

  • IronKnight55
    IronKnight55 Member Posts: 2,972

Agreed. I've had survivors run around turning my TVs off because it's not threatening enough. I was unable to teleport and felt helpless. TVs need a shorter cooldown and condemned needs to be buffed somehow.

I think she is weak overall, but she is the first and only killer in the game where you can run all 3 of her base perks and feel reasonably powerful. Barely any other killer has even two non-useless perks, and nobody’s set synergizes like hers.

  • RenRen
    RenRen Member Posts: 1,443

I think she's ok. She lacks a power in a chase so even if you do have good mobility and map pressure, you can't really down anyone fast. That being said she isn't bad by any means if CoH and Dead Hard aren't in play.

  • PerfectlyPink
    PerfectlyPink Member Posts: 435

The more I play her, the less good things I see about her. Honestly I think the only killer worse that her is trapper.

Her teleport is really good until the survivors start messing with it. Also it has 100 second cd after teleporting. They also have 0 mind game or chase potential since it has a loud directional notification.

She has 0 stealth since she has a directional lullaby

Her perks are good but not that doesn't make her good

She's just awful at everything. I wouldn't even care if she didn't give away everything she is doing

Is she really good? I'll disagree, she's not better than B tier.

Is she good? Yeah, I'd put her around mid to low B tier, probably a whole tier under Demogorgon

The bigger issue with Sadako is that you don't have to loop her at all. She has zero utility. Pre-drop anything and everything. Easy win if the teammates are on gens and not AFK

Thanks for your replies, everyone! It's really interesting to read peoples' perspectives.

I'm under no illusion that she's probably not as effective against competitive SWF teams. I play survivor more than killer and when ranks were a thing the highest I got as killer was purple rank, so I'm not overly experienced or amazing at playing killer. I just play for fun!

I think she’s much better than what most people seem to think. She could do with some tweaks but we need to be careful of another Wee Bit OP situation where she gets nerfed due to new/lower MMR players.

Really good to play as? Yea, when you have a decent map and not strong team of Survivors, then yes, sure. Her power in general is fun to use.

Really good in terms of being strong killer? No.

Artist and Hag immediately come to mind :). Cenobite is pretty solid on his base perks too.
