Rancor is surprisingly good for a guaranteed (non-Bubba) 2k+
I hadn’t used Rancor on any killer in years. If you are playing “normally” (ie not camping or tunneling) you rarely get use out of it because the obsession just avoids you.
But prestiging Sadako, I threw it on when I had nothing else useful for 30+ levels (all insidious, unrelenting, etc.). It made a HUGE difference against genrush SWFs that I couldn’t defeat normally.
The process is simple:
- Tunnel someone not the obsession until they are dead on hook. At this point, if you are lucky, one gen is left.
- Find someone (ideally the obsession) and get a down.
- If you down the obsession, wait until the last gen pops and Mori them on the ground. If you also ran NWO, they can’t open the gate at the same time as the mori (SWFs will do this if they see your strategy) and you still have a fair chance at a 3k or 4K.
- If you down someone else, this is where the hidden benefit of Rancor comes in. Hook them, and the two remaining survivors can’t effectively hook bomb you because one of them has rancor. The most likely outcome (even if they are full BT, DH, etc) is letting the hooked guy die. If the obsession is foolish enough to get near you you can simply trade the hook guy for the Mori.
Since the quality of my opponents seems to be far, far above my Sadako ability, this has turned into a great build for me. Mix in Deadlock, Starstruck, and/or Lightborn (if there are flashlights in play) with rancor and NWO to limit the possibility of shenanigans and you have a very high chance at a 2k or greater.

Rancor is a hugely underrated perk in general

I love Rancor. Generally because I love Mori's in general, but in games where I'm not doing so hot at least as a consolation I can take one of their SWF squad and they usually can't do anything about it. It's about as great and underrated as Left Behind.
You don't even have to tunnel someone. If someone pops a generator, you know where everyone is. No guesswork required. If they're down a player or two and they pop the final gen you can generally suss out where the obsession is if they're still alive at this point. I've always found it much better than NOED.

Rancor is one of the few perks that makes me ######### my pants when I realize it's in play and I'm the obsession lol

It’s so nerve wracking!! Even worse when you’re opening a gate and looking around while your heart is pounding.

Yup lol. Not gonna lie sometimes I try my best to avoid the killer when there's 1 gen left. Other times I embrace death and try my best
