Why can't we (killer) break boons only snuff?
Since boons were introduced ive always wondered why as a killer we didnt get the option to either snuff or break a boon. Boons caused Hex: Pentimento 5 stack bonus to be near impossible to get (because of boons). Having the option to either snuff instantly (as it is now) or break the boon which would have to take longer would allow for much more interesting plays. And would stop the current Boon spam that happens when you snuff a totem.
Not looking for hate just always wondered why this wasn't a thing.

Because removing a survivor perk from the game is bad, However removing a Killer's perk is fine.
All dbd players are equal, but some are more equal than others.

Because 3/4 boons aren’t strong enough to warrant that?

If the CoH nerf goes live, then no Boon will be strong enough to warrant breaking (CoH will remain a good Perk even after the nerf)

This made me physcially laugh so hard.
Its not about if they are strong enough to warrant it but being able to break the boon would limit how much survivors can use them

Pentimento.
I'm not talking about the players (usually) but I imagine a lot of the slashers that aren't Myers, Pyramidhead etc are so brain rotten that they don't have anything going on up there other than slash survivors and put them on hooks. Breaking something other than a pallet never occurs to them.

There doesn’t need to be a limit if the perks themselves aren’t too strong which again 3/4 are pretty weak.

Short answer:
Because the developers have very, very funny ideas of what constitutes as a balanced mechanic.
You, me, and everyone who plays the game for any moderate amount of time may be able to point out that this mechanic would be MUCH better and MUCH healthier if snuffing a totem broke it and removed that instance of the perk from the match. However, developers do not see the game through the screen - they see it through numbers, charts, and board meetings. They do not have a firm grasp on what needs to be done or why it needs to be done.
I'm sure a lot of developers in Behavior are incredibly creative and hyper talented. But their bosses have very... colorful interpretations of what constitutes a quality of life choice.

If killers can break the bones, they can restore the strength of CoH to day 1 state. The problem has never been its strenght. It's effectively a fifth (sixth, seventh, eighth) perk for other survivors. It's extremely powerful at no risk. It's bullshit.
If in a game I could know who has a boon perk, I'd tunnel his ass out of there or, if I've snuffed it, let him bleed out like I did for pre-nerf OoO.

Many Hex perks aren't worth it as it is, yet they're still breakable.

So why do boons have limited range as well as a large visual and audio cue? Boons arent hexes. Thats why.

Because boons are designed around providing back-and-forth slowdown that continually drags survivors off generators so that they can keep their buffs up. There are a few reasons why this doesn't quite work out in practice, but that's the design; boons would not fill their intended role at all, even slightly, if they could be broken.

Because they are not the same

Just thought about this but wouldn't a base-kit Pentimento and base-kit Inner Healing provide more back-and-forth than Boons?
Like, Survivor cleanses a Totem to gain a heal for later, Killer gets a Rekindled Totem, then a different Survivor cleanses that Rekindled Totem but doesn't gain a Inner Healing Stack so they search for another Totem and the process repeats until Totems run out?

I think completely breaking boon totems would be interesting counterplay, but would probably need to be its own perk, possibly combined with a secondary bonus, like preventing survivors from being able to overwrite a lit hex totem with a boon.

I feel BHVR does not want to admit they got something wrong or made a mistake by adding something.
Even with overwhelming feedback of how bad something is they just wait on it and wait on it and then perhaps they will work on it. "We thought about this and that, but we can't say anything yet."
That's the response you get. They don't admit they messed up or did not have a good idea.

There are a lot of mixed opinions here. Way more than I expected.

Valuable feedback thank you XD
Having the ability to break Boons as a perk is an interesting Idea. This could also work as either a killer addon or a "secret" offering for killers.
I will say that the "back and forth" agument would be valid if it was 1 v 1 but given that this is 4 v 1 with the possibility for up to 4 survivors being able to boon means that each time you snuff a totem there could always be a survivor hiding around the corner to reboon it.
I believe that the way boons work for snuffing and relighting needs some work. Even if they can never be broken having it require longer to re-boon a totem each time its snuffed would work well. that way it at least punish's survivors who just reboon the same totem and rewards (ish) survivors who boon an alternate totem.
