Boil Over sucks
Boil Over genuinely used to be considered the worst survivor perk at one point. With these slight buffs, everyone is overreacting and it seriously still sucks balls. Boil Over does 3 pretty mediocre things that all together make it one of the most under-powering and situational options for a wiggle build:
- 80% increased intensity of your wiggle effect. This seriously is a worthless effect unless you're on RPD or Lery's. All other maps this effect never ever comes in play. Even then, maybe it can buy you 15% wiggle speed maximum, really terrible and placement luck based.
- Hides hook auras within 16 meters. I actually think this is great because it convinces baby killers that oh I should go to the furthest hook because boil over told me to! Unless the killer has EYES, maybe God equipped Plaything on the killer when they spawned into the trial (in real life) that falls for Boil Over,. You don't even need to memorize hook spawns, just use your eyes as a killer and this effect is also negated by normal gameplay.
- 33% of your current Wiggle progression when the Killer drops from great heights. I don't even think the game knows what a "great height" is sometimes from my experiences of using Balanced Landing, making this effect kinda iffy to trigger. But regardless, this effect is again, map reliant and doesn't do much unless you purposefully go down in a specific area.
Wanna know the worst thing about Boil Over? It gives the killer the damn notification at the corner of the screen so they can counter allllll of these effects. Just don't fall, note the most likely hook locations, and deal with the wiggle intensity on a likely open map. Stupid dumb killer mains making their faces red when they get moved side to side a little bit. I've used this perk and gone against it. The only way to abuse it seriously is on the top floor of the Eyrie of crows. But that's not the perks fault, that's the map design. Killer mains need to stop exaggerating over survivors getting anything in this game I swear. Dozen wiggle perks better than this one. If BHVR nerf Boil Over one more time I'm quit game.

Yep. It's a terrible perk.
The problem - it's a terrible perk that is also sickeningly annoying to face sometimes.
Post-buff, it allowed savvy survivors to essentially take the game hostage and forcing a hard slug+camp, as they simply couldn't be hooked from specific points on several maps.
After the adjustment, there are still a handful of problem spots and it's just irritating on indoor maps.
The perk needs a complete, OoO style top-down rework.

What is stupid about the balance change is the fact that the developers had buffed Boil Over to make it somewhat useful (1st nerf) and are nerfing it back to useless. It started out at 75%, went to 100% and now it's right back at 80%. Is that not the most dumb thing you have every heard of.
The dropping off from a ledge is worthless after the 1st nerf. It's like the Developers can't allow a perk to have use once in a while, it either is meta or has to be useless.

It's just a badly designed perk. The second it becomes useful, it becomes abusable.
Even post-nerf, RPD library or Eyrie can be nearly unhookable with certain hook spawns, and completely unhookable if you have cooperation.

the artist map has 2 hooks inside and 2 outside lol
how can boil over work there?

It’s like OoO now. You won’t see any of them never again

That's 2 places where it's "nearly" impossible to hook a player. And honestly, killers can work around it by slugging if they have cooperation. The perk is fine at 100% and I hope the PTB change doesn't go through. It's just not justified to nerf it right back to where it was before.
I mean it's the same as Sabotage at that point, if it requires cooperation? You can't tell me that Boil Over can do something that Sabotage also can't do.

Sucks balls you say

That cartoon makes no sense, lol.

I mean RPD library is busted to start with (they should simply block the ability to go to the top of the book self and BAM problem solved. Boil over is not the only perk on the part of the map the causes problems. (boon: get up legit for get its name).

What you can do with Boil Over in RPD library is the exact same thing you can do with Sabotage in RPD library. Boil Over does not need a nerf. Keep it at 100% wiggle instead of nerfing it back to exactly the same way you had it before. At least it has use once in a great while now.

I ran it back before the buffs. It's a fun goofy perk. Make killers bump into walls like big dumb babies, have a chuckle.

i've recently bought kate and i've been using it on tier 2. which is what it would be like after the current pbt nerfs. and honestly, i get pretty good value out of it. it's fine, really.

I agree with going back to the firist nerf percentages (100% Wiggle progression),
What made the perk to be broken was the progress bar go up 25% of the total when the killer dropped from high places.

Also with Scourge Hooks being a new mechanic, the white aura of the scourge hooks are seeable when not carrying a survivor so it's even harder to fool killers with the aura prevention mechanic.
I think a nice QoL feature that could work well for Boil Over is it shows the dying survivor the aura of hooks within range of Boil Over so you can position yourself in a spot to try to deny hook auras if left slugged.

Almost impossible is exactly what it should do. Survivor perks should actually do something rather than being decoration for their perk slots. Boil Over should work once in a while, this nerf will make it useless. It's exactly at the place it was before if this nerf goes through.
There's nothing current Boil Over can do that Sabotage also can't do.

I've only ever seen killers complain about spots that make hooking legit impossible with boil over, not once have I seen one want Boil Over needed, just these fixed (even if it meant a nerf)

Without a second person, Boil Over doesn't work either. Killers can make it to a hook with Boil Over. Survivors need a body block, to occasionally make Boil Over work. In fact, I would say Sabotage is better, because it works more often.

Hides hook auras within 16 meters. I actually think this is great because it convinces baby killers that oh I should go to the furthest hook because uncle boil over told me to! Unless the killer has EYES, maybe God equipped Plaything on the killer when they spawned into the trial (in real life) that falls for Boil Over,. You don't even need to memorize hook spawns, just use your eyes as a killer and this effect is also negated by normal gameplay.
I disagree, I think more people than you suspect get fooled by the aura hiding aspect of it. There are a lot of times a nearby hook is behind an obstacle that the killer can’t see directly from where they downed someone and it becomes really easy to miss it with Boil Over. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the forum posters who complain about “how come there were no hooks here, this map sucks” were actually victims of Boil Over hiding a hook.

Seeing the icon doesn’t actually tell you there’s a hook around the corner you can’t see.
