Whats The Actual Argument Against Removing Perk Tiers?

The grind of the game has been growing more and more gross over the years, and BHVR throwing blood point events at us every other month doesn't make it any less grueling.

I've heard many requests to just remove perk tiers all together considering they have no purpose other than to pad out a game that once had only 3 killers and 4 survivors on launch.

The only argument I've heard against this was that "The people who grinded these perks would feel kinda bad" which I think is a piss poor argument to make the rest of us suffer through it.

I grinded a lot to get all perks on my P3 characters.

I don't want to grind any more. I won't feel bad if they got rid of the tiers. I'd be happy I don't have to grind any more.

How weird that we're in a place where allegedly we'd rather not making things easy for ourselves because we don't want others to have things easy to?? That kind of defeats the point of society.

Some people just like to watch the world burn…I suggest we add more tiers~

Getting rid of the perk tiers in my opinion is the best thing they could do to reduce grind without having to overhaul how the game works and how bloodpoints/iridescent shards work, They add 6 (Sometimes 9) perks every 3 months and eventually the grind is gonna get worse and worse if they continue to just sit on their hands about the subject. Once the Anniversary chapter releases, there will be 203 perks in this game and it doesn't take a genius to realize that's a lot, as it stands right now if you want to get all perks on one survivor and get them all to Level 3 it's gonna take you around 10-15 million bloodpoints which is outrageous for one survivor, if they were to kill perk tiers that number would be reduced to around 5 or so million which isn't actually that bad. They should also encourage the grind more by having more rewards for Leveling up your Devotion and Prestiging survivors and killers because there is legitimately no reason to prestige because you get nothing for it except a sub-par blood covered cosmetic.

Removing perk tiers would feel better but its a temporary solution. If they keep adding perks, the bloodweb will be just as grindy in the future.

The argument the devs brought in one stream was "But it wouldn't just be removing perk tiers, you'd also have to remove all the places specific perk tiers are mentioned, like the shrine and teachables! That's a lot of work!"

I nearly choked laughing at that. That sounds like an hour tacked on the end of removing perk tiers, not such an insurmountable pile of work that justifies not improving the game.

Because after 10 years the grind would get back to where it is now, which according to bhvr is a perfectly acceptable reason to not do anything about it

Despite the fact that permanently reducing the grind by a third would be huge and even after 10 years of stuff being added to the game the grind would still be way less than what it would've been had they not removed perk tiers. Not to mention they can do more than one thing about grind, surely that's enough time for them to come up with more solutions, assuming the game even lasts that long

200 perks with tiers = 600 vs 200 without tiers

1000 perks with tiers = 3000 vs 1000 without tiers

    It's always going to help

There are 197 perks in the game, each with two other tiers.

That sounds like a lot. But adding on top of that Tier 2 and Tier 3 upgrades needed, the current grind feels as though there are 591.

    5... 9... 1...

I think getting rid of perk tiers would eliminate the grind problem almost entirely for the foreseeable lifetime of the game, because there is no way there will be that many perks in the game to make it feel equally this bad.

Perk tiers are just one part of the grind, as we said we're looking at it as a whole so doing the work to just remove perk tiers whilst we work on a longer term solution just doesn't make sense. We do have plans that are in the works that will overhaul the grind, these will be shared when ready.

I'm no game dev, but I guarantee the amount of time they'd take to correct this would take less time than it would for me to unlock all the perks in the game currently.

    So the situation is that:

You have the grind that's becoming too overwhelming based on an old system. Your solutions are to:

    1) Dedicate Dev Time to correct every perk's tiers in the game, and then all the other piddly stuff that comes with it (Descriptions, shrine, etc.) and then dedicate more of that time to make it defunct anyway with the new system in the works.

    or

    2) Bite the bullet of the old system until this new one is in place and reduce the dev time needed to correct the same problem.

This explanation actually makes sense. Thank you. Will the new system still have a 'tier' system for perks are will it just reduce the grind time?

I can't give information as to what will happen yet I'm afraid...as soon as we're ready to share what the overhaul will be, we definitely will.

Personally, I feel that Perk Tiers should stay. Because if a new player starts with the game, they will run out of Perks before they even get their forth Perk Slot. So every Bloodweb afterwards is without any Perks and from my own player experience back then, the most exciting part about doing Bloodwebs was to get Perks.

But, the Grind is also not only Perks. You can also reduce the grind by reducing the Bloodwebs, e.g. removing some Offerings (Mist-Offerings for example), which can fall away completely. And Bloodwebs in general could be smaller, with less Nodes to click.

Also, the Survivor-Bloodweb REALLY needs an overhaul, there is so much stuff in them which is worthless due to Nerfs and they have 3 times as many Items in their Bloodwebs compared to Killers.

They can also increase the overall BP-Gain. Simple solution: Just double all BP-Gains. Or, at the very least, the BP-Offerings can be doubled in value. Or Bloodweb-Stuff can be cheaper.

There is so much more than removing Perk Tiers, which would the game a bit more boring for newer players in my opinion.

I look forward to news about the grind rework... by which I mean, hearing about how 'it didn't work in testing so we've scrapped the grind rework' and then we never get any details or rework

Because they don’t want to fix it. They talked about the grind in October. We are in April now. Why is it taking so long? Simple they don’t want to reduce the grind
