Pinhead Strength + Builds
Been gone for a year. Much like any license killer, I’m a fan, so I’d like to play them but I’m having a rough time with this power and understanding of what’s going on. So just gunna bounce a couple things here and generally look for info and tips.
Does the box ever highlight for the Killer or do you just have to be standing on it to get a screen notification?
Is it emitting a sound and what exactly am I suppose to be hearing?
Should I try and bind them before a vault or after the vault? I can’t tell which is benefitting me more, because sometimes the bind forces slow vault and I can get a hit, but sometimes it misses and I lose major distance, and sometimes the slowdown afterwards helps me not lose distance but I lose a chance to score the early hit.
What exactly is the chain hunt doing? I’m assuming chain it’s just spawning more chains but WHAT is it doing? Like how is this chain harassment helping me? Can they not do gens, heal, or do totems? Does this last for long? It felt over very quick when I did it, but I haven’t done it very often.
Im guessing learning to control that chain is just practice. Right now my only hope is to spawn my portal right on top of them and let it fly immediately, whenever it’s not instant this damn chain just flys off in the wrong place.

Whats the build like? Whenever I watch older content it seems people use Hoarder, but new stuff doesn’t have that, is this because Pinhead Players got better at finding box or did Hoarder just get phased out because he needs more gen defence? What builds do you guys use?
I heard he got nerfed (in a different topic) but exactly what was nerf? Just curious.
You can tack on any info or tips you want, hopefully I’ll have something to read before I grind some more Pinhead tomorrow. Right now I’m..
Deadlock, Pain Resonance, Plaything, BBQ

Pinhead is basically a cross between Freddy and Pig. Weak Anti-Loop Power in exchange for built-in slowdown and an occasional teleport.
The box is basically a requirement for Survivors to complete that gets them off gens at least every two minutes. If a chain hunt activates, all actions like Healing, Totems and Generators screech to a stop until the box is found again. Chain hunts also stack with Pinhead's chain power and turn a mediocre anti-loop into something rather threatening.
Finding the box is useful because it activates a chain hunt early, although its relatively hard to find and not worth going out of your way to look for. Hoarder and Franklins used to be popular on Pinhead. Hoarder tells Pinhead the location of the Survivor that picks up the box and Franklins makes them drop the box early so you can activate chain hunt.
Personally, I feel that Pinhead's power is pretty weak especially considering that it shares similar mechanics to Nurse Blinks. Whenever I land a good Pinhead chain I think to myself "if I was Nurse that would've been a hit not just chains."
Pinhead has never been heavily nerfed aside from a few strong addons getting nerfed. His base kit has actually been slightly buffed since his initial release. The main issue with the Killer is that Pinhead himself can break his chains on Survivors by walking towards them. The map geometry can break chains. Other Survivors trying to take protection hits can break chains. Unless you have a chain hunt up or are using the Impaling Wire addon Pinhead's power is gonna feel like its not slowing down Survivors enough in a lot of scenarios because the chains broke too quickly due to unfortunate circumstances you couldn't control.

It never highlights it, but you do see the physical tiny box on the ground if you pass by it. The only way to see it's aura like survivors do is with an Add-On; Chatterer's Tooth
Is it emitting a sound and what exactly am I suppose to be hearing?
It's a slight electrical sound.

If they are next to a pallet it is very hard to hit a survivor. Use your chains to slow survivors halfway around a medium to long wall of a loop, short walls you should mindgame. Without add-ons you are better running up to a survivor than trying to use your chains to slow them down. Use them to mindgame more than slow down a survivor in a dead zone.

Every time they are hit with a chain, it cancels their interaction and they have to remove the chain before they can work on a gen, totem, open a chest, or heal. They can still drop pallets, and vault. Chain hunt lasts until someone solves the box.
Im guessing learning to control that chain is just practice. Right now my only hope is to spawn my portal right on top of them and let it fly immediately, whenever it’s not instant this damn chain just flys off in the wrong place.
Yes the chain hunt takes practice to master, it's akin to learning teleporting with Nurse but with extra steps. There are add-ons to help make using the chains easier.

Hoarder was apart of a Hoarder + Franklin's combo, but having Hoarder in the combo didn't create much of an effect since the Survivors would only pick up the box when they wanted to complete it, so you were either close enough to swat them to begin with, or you are teleporting to them losing the value of Hoarder. Franklin's is still a good perk for Pinhead as it forces whomever you are chasing to drop the box if you had not teleported to them, or they have not yet solved it. Thus you can pick it up after hitting them to initiate a chain hunt during that chase.

The build I recommend is; Dead Man Switch, Franklin's Demise, Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance, Sloppy Butcher.
Other perks I recommend; BBQ, Hex: Ruin, Deadlock, Fearmonger

This is what I have been using. Corrupt + Deadlock + The Box is plenty of slowdown. So the other two are going to chase perks. Brutal bamboozle to make him a strong m1 killer for the times I can't land a chain worth a damn.
Brutal on pinhead is probably the most satisfying brutal user too, the animations look clean af with the extra speed.
He's got some maps where you need to be insanely precise with the chains and I don't feel like needing to land chains like a robot every game with him to get anything done. For that level of effort you can just play nurse.
Nobody uses Hoarder anymore since the box solving add-ons got nerfed and tunneling the box isn't nearly as viable anymore.

- 1: Box does not highlight for the killer unless you bring a specific add on. That add on is useless because it lets you see the box but picking it up does not activate a chain hunt. It gives you undetectable instead.
- The box emits the sound of electricity when nearby but it's easily mistaken for something else.
- The chains can be used to bind before or after. It depends on the loop. If you can chain them before and get a hit, great. If you chain them after you might be able to run around before they break. Best to never use the chains from far away. Missing is very punishing and they slow down doesn't last very long. They are best at loops wwhere the slow down can give you a hit. Best to land the portal right on top of the survivor and fire away. The less time they have to react the less likely they will 360 juke the chain.
- The chain hunt constantly spawns chains to interrupt whatever survivors are doing. It is very annoying and is amazing pressure. Good survivors will never allow a chain hunt to occur. The good thing about it is even if they prevent a chain hunt, that does take one person off a gen to complete the box.
- As i mentioned previous, spawning the portal right on top of them is best.
- Hoarder is still good on pinhead but the experienced pin heads learned to make due without it. Hoarder+franklins is great for starting out on pin head but over time you might drop one or both perks. Franklins goes away when you realize you dont want to make them drop the box. You want to down them so you pick up the box automatically and you get to hook them. Franklins forces you to let them escape so you can grab the box. Hoarder is great for knowing where someone is when they pick up the box. I still use it but others have learned to live without it. I have seen pin head players use lethal pursuer to get a heads up where everyone is at the start. The box can only spawn about 40 meters from pin head and 10 meters from every survivor. By seeing where everyone is you can guesstimate which part of the map is the box but you shouldnt waste time looking for it. If you hear it while patrolling, great. BBQ is also a good perk. Once you hook someone and you see somebody making a beeline to a location, that could be a survivor going for the box and you can try to intercept them.

Pinhead with totems is pretty obnoxious, and if a chain hunt occurs a lot of players don't know how to do the box without getting interrupted, which leads to Pinhead having time to find them and chain hunt again.
Pinhead forces chases, and he forces you to put down your items to play with his companion cube. Even if you're middling in chase 70% of the work is done for you. He does have one of the best Mori's in the game but a lot of his games feel like cheese so whatever.
Normally I bind survivors at loops with low walls and force them to either drop the unsafe pallet or run to a new loop. I don't find it worth the effort to do it often but survivor side if they land then you can feel it slow you down.
I still use Franklins/Hoarder/Hex: Retribution and Hex: Plaything just because combined with the chain hunts it gets stupid but pretty much anything works on him. For the amount of effort you put into it, you get a lot in return playing Pinhead.

Okay, I’ll try and digest all this later. Survivor related question, How DO you do the box when chain hunt is on? Both my friend and I couldn’t figure it out. I assumed it was because the killer increased the time to solve box and we didn’t know a trick. I tried hugging a wall but that didn’t help.
Thanks for the info and build suggestions. I’m most interested in OpenX build, sounds more my speed until I figure out this chain thing.

You have to dodge the chain and then start solving it. As soon as you're clear of that one, and begin solving, the chains shouldn't interrupt you anymore. Dodging the chain is easy because it locks on you and fire, but it can't change directions, so you wait til it shoot then move, and that gets easier the further away you are from it because you have more reaction time.

Hoarder is allways good.
Not franklins tho. that is a waste of time on pinhead.
Hit, Pick up box, chase survivor down, down survivor
but with hoarder you, chain survivor, down then box and you get alot more value

Use the purple addon "impaling wire" or at least that's what I think it's called. Basically when they break a chain with environment it spawns another, takes him from garbage to decent.
The box emits a sound, like static I guess?
Chaining people near vaults depends on how close they are. If you can chain them abit before go for it, it will force a slow vault however if you can only just hit it before the vault wait till after.
Honestly hes alot of effort for what you get, if you're on mouse its abit easier but in general his power has a high cap for low value. This is why I suggest the purple wire addon and probably the green solve time.
Perks- I guess this is up to you really. I personally like Franklin's and hoarder combo, I know lots of people say Franklin's is a waste because popular streams said it but this means you dont need a down to get the box, this helps alot with pressure not to mention Franklin's stops all other items too, combined with hoarder you get lots of info.
End of the day it depends how far you want to push him and the level of players you verse, I use to love him till every addon got nerfed to the ground

Okay, noted. I’ll definitely look into this purple add on. Good tip. Sounds very useful.
