Kill Switch update: Amanda's Letter add-on for The Pig has been Kill Switched due to an issue with incorrect RBT count.

Did something happen to the (terrible) MMR system already?

Yesterday my games have been terrible. After 3 games of killer which all have been against toxic swf's with the 6 same perks, I decided to stop playing until the next day. I feel like something has happened to MMR already, is this true or not?

I feel like the games have been even less fun then they usually are. The grades are also still hidden which is stupid as well. And yes I know GRADES AREN'T USED TO MAKE MATCHES but I don't understand why BHVR decided to hide them.

They already did hide grades and even tho I know grades don't matter when it comes to matchmaking, I feel like something else happened to MMR already.

The changes listed in yesterday’s dev post have gone into effect.

They implemented changes described in their recent blogpost, I think

I haven't played myself so i can't comment, but assuming there's more to the recent posts about MMR than the usual complaining, I'm wondering if the changes did some kind of MMR reset and stuff is trying to recalibrate.

    >>> And yes I know GRADES AREN'T USED TO MAKE MATCHES but I don't understand why BHVR decided to hide them.

Because people kept acting like they did. Plus it was apparently highly requested.

Personally I haven’t noticed much difference so far as survivor.

Killer last night was a bit more of a mixed bag. I had a couple challenging games but most of my matches last night were too easy, which also included a 4k at 5 gens as artist because someone ragequit after getting injured by a crow and immediately grabbed off a pallet 2 seconds later, lol.

I can comment from 12 matches. They all were terribly unbalanced.

Not really sure if people who don´t do anything useful nor survive for any significant amount of time are of equal skill.

I´ve had a match where three people were on the ground within 40 seconds. Seriously, that´s way off.

That sounds more like a balance issue, not a matchmaking issue? Of course you're going to see the meta perks more often, that's... what makes them the meta perks.

Also, you may know that grades aren't used for matchmaking, but new players don't. It just cuts down on unnecessary confusion.

one game I faced the literally worst killer I have ever seen in my life. The next the sweatiest killer I have ever seen in my life. Its kinda weird that I get this mix between what feels top 5% killers one game, and the next the bottom 5%

The game will never be balanced, and is why SBMM shouldn't be in this game.

Too many killers perks maps to balance, camping and also tunneling.

Stop defending sbmm when is doing nothing but destroying the game.

That's quite the claim. Perfect balance may never be achieved, but that doesn't mean we should give up on trying and it definitely doesn't make balance problems into matchmaking problems.

I'm also not defending MMR here, I'm pointing out that the problem being described is caused by something else. Here's a defence, though: MMR is not destroying this game. It's not as good as it should be, but it's still slightly better than the old system.

I think you have a misunderstanding of MMR and balance. This game is all about snow-ball as either killer or survivor. Survivors snowball if they can lose chase or get the killer to give up repeatedly, killer snow-balls if they get fast downs, especially multiple downs at once. I've had games against the exact same 4 man swf where I've lost one game decidedly with 3 or 4 hooks and the next game I win verses that same group with 4 generators up. If you think that fair matches are close matches, that's just not how this game plays.

Killer too easy, survivor too hard, nothing much has changed just easier for my killer build and hard for my solo.

Feel like it’s driven people away from solo though as matchmaking is taking very very long for worst matches. Least Killer feels easier though, just switched to that instead for now but some games I’m getting completely newbie survivors which feels odd haha, could be the reset mentioned above though.

dude one of the killers legit got lost in shack. How is that related to snowballing?

Yeah I'm having an odd evening. Spent more time queued up than I have in game. First game was a super skilled killer who had everyone out before a single gen had popped. Second killer was a hacker and I have no idea how the team managed to get two gens done before we all died but we managed. Third match was going okay but killer DC'd.

Hiding the grades was done to try to reduce the complaints about crappy matchmaking. Of course it does nothing to actually address the problem itself.

Of course we know that grades have zero correlation with skill level, none whatsoever. Even if you manage to get to iri grade 1 only a day after grade reset because you play this game 20 hours a day, that doesn’t mean anything regarding your skill level. This is a new learning for me that the amount of time you spend playing a video game has zero correlation with your skill level. Guess I shouldn’t bother to spend time practicing to get better! It’s also super weird that in my past matches, the red grade survivors were almost universally better players than lower grade survivors. So weird…

    🙄

They are hiding the grades because they are irrelevant and there are way too many individuals who cannot grasp that concept.

It saves a lot of painfully repeated explanations.

As for the tuning made in the MMR, it should improve games for the average player (or the experienced player playing a killer he is average as).

As they've stated, extremes may still have inadequate matching.

Also, worse matching is expected when queues are getting long. So if you want to be matched with people close to your strength and your queue lasts, says, 2 minutes. Just give up or switch role or killer.

There were definitely some bad actors. I myself go through stages of playing this game regularly and taking breaks. When I take a break, I'm ash grade and the survivors that I versed were 3 or 4 iridescent survivors. It'd be super easy for me to lose a game on purpose, show the end game screen and then complain about balance.

The changes don't solve anything. It will be chaotic for a while, but it will eventually settle and we will be back where we started. A survivor who was 1700mmr before the change will just be pushed back to 1500 or however much they adjusted the soft cap.

yeah, SBMM got even worse since the changes from what I've seen.

Yeah, it has been terrible for me since they "fixed" the MMR. It was never about me, a mid-level player, though. It was about the high MMR survivors who wanted "variety" (i.e., not spirit or blight every round) and high MMR killers who wanted to use less powerful killers. So they feed them players like me. High MMR people have fun, and my games now suck. So if I want to play against people of my current skill level, I either have to (1) get lucky, or (2) improve my MMR so much that I am beyond my current skill level.

But hey! They hid the grades! I should be happy, right?

Grades do have some loose correlation with skill. One could typically get to gold with just a grinding mindset. But from there and especially at iri, you won't pip if you can't pull your weight. It doesn't mean two players of same grade will be exactly the same skills. But, to get to the upper end of the scale, one has to have a decent understanding of the game.

Yeah. I said in another thread that they basically made two changes that work against each other. Reduce the mmr range to 350, but then lower the soft cap.

I still don't understand why they decided to hide the grades. It's such a stupid update.

Killer is the worst in my opinion. I just can't have a ''normal'' game anymore.
