Everyone is mad and so am i
Everyone on Twitter is upset with David being gay, and as a gay man so am I. Don't just get someone who we've know for years and be like " oh btw he gay" just for representation. Make someone new who is gay but also has a personality. Yall done ######### up

Well, I'm sure this thread will go well.

You saw hate on Twitter? All I saw were celebrations.
But I do admit, I would've preferred seeing someone new that was representing us.
5 -
Would've been smarter & more special to do like you said and release the new character on a 6th anniversary update of the game.
1 -
I was saying Boourns
2 -
It may have been lazy, but some people find themselves a bit later in life, y'know? I can't get upset over that because at least they're trying. He might also be bisexual since his lore hints at him having been with a woman in his earlier years. Just a thought :)!

Yes I scrolled for a good while and saw nothing but complaints on the official Twitter page

As well as my matches today on haddonfield

Will just further prove that they don't know what they are doing. It would have been fine of David was gay from the start

Out of curiosity, have you read the lore about it yet? The lore that's meant to bridge the gap/explain it I mean
4 -
I feel like having a new gay character would feel way more tokenism rather than a current character.
12 -
People are complaining that bhvr did this the wrong way but his lore is pretty great.
1 -
The actual wording was "for now we should be happy a first step has finally been taken" and you warping that more than proves the point they were trying to make about looking for an argument rather than a discussion.
3 -
If the lore behind it is well done, what's the problem?
That they went on twitter about it or that they picked a pre-existing character?
2 -
No but I dont need to read it. You don't just make a post saying "we realized we don't have any LGBT survivors so here's one". Would have been better if the 6th year survivor was gay

Is it not a little unfair to pass judgement without having read the story the whole thing is based around?
Like if you read it and don't like it fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion but to call it forced/bad quality and so on without having read it seems unfair no?
6 -
Exactly, I almost cried
1 -
Ding dong your opinion is wrong
1 -
Yes being gay and effeminate is so wrong we should not get representation

I wasnt quoting anyone I was responding to the op...

Everyone is not mad. I hope you find solace somewhere.
1 -
Sorry 😭
But op is right

Sorry to derail, but what's wrong with J.K. Rowling again?

How she tried to turn everyone in Harry Potter gay

Go scroll on the Twitter post and come back

Wait a second you just can't represent every one at the same time. Be it David or a new character he will only represent one type. Now we got a muscle man that seems to be very "manly" and you don't feel represented when we get a feminin gay men masculine gay man wouldn't feel represented. I think if the lore is good it's Okey it's something new we learned about a character. And then I have a question. Be it David or dumbeldore why is it cheap when later it reveals that a character is gay? I mean if it's not relevant why should they talk about it yknow
5 -
The problem is : only masculine gays receive representation because effeminate gay are seen as stereotypes. And its very rude.
0 -
But your friend is not gay just for representation. That's why they made David gay, just for that. They did it wrong
0 -
I totally get you effeminate men don't get enough representation whether they are gay or not. I would like a mor feinen man to because I am one my self just dont gay. I think bhvr is going the "save" route here because first people out there would go on and on about how its a cliche character if it a effeminate man because for stupid people that don't like gays that a thing. And second I kinda think it's a nice move to take David in particular because he is this buff manly man man and I have often seen people saying how that a real men and thats how men should be when the more feminine trickster got released and now the manly man man is gay I don't know why but I think it hits the right spots if you know why I mean
1 -
Friend said head on should now be his perk, since he came out of the closet.
3 -
Oh lord 😂
0 -
I know what you mean. But it marginalized effeminate guys.

What makes you think BHVR is stopping here with adding characters from the LGBT+ community?
Just give them time and who knows, maybe the next character is going to effiminate.
1 -
I hope they will !

To actually get worked up about something like this. How do you cope when your not in front of a screen?
0 -
You're all like "Ugh they Jk Rowling'd it" NO TF THEY DID NOT
Dumbledoor was made gay to please the terrible people she surrounded herself with and it was given absolutely NO canon confirmation until Fantastic Beasts 2. David was confirmed to help represent a portion of the gay community and, here's the important bit, has canon evidence to support his being gay. I've read the lore, it's really well done and explains why it's not a retcon.
They could literally only represent one type of person. You don't want a masculine gay but also not an effeminate gay because that'd be a stereotype so, what? You want the void? Give them time to help show more than a singular character because now they've taken the big step everything else can be integrated so much easier.
Good grief
6 -
As a gay man, if they where going to Retcon, making him bisexual would make more sense.
Especially since bisexuals get the worst representation
1 -
Caring or listening to any community on Twitter of all places is the worst thing any person or company could do to regardless
1 -
I don't get what the issue is? It's not like we know everything about every single character. Why does it have to be someone new?
8 -
Agreed, im hoping they made the backstory actually represent it rather than it just being a 2d label being slapped on, if they don't actually address it in the tome thats coming out tomorrow and its just a really just a label slapped on then I think thats just poor representation
0 -
As a gay man yourself, you should be familiar with the term "coming out". Hiding the fact that your gay has been much more common than being out for far too long. That's why things like David being gay and people noting the Jeopardy Queen is a lesbian are important.
1 -
It's just the fact that they did it all of a sudden. They literally said "hey we don't have a gay man so here's one cuz why not". Everyone knows that's not how your supposed to do it. Take soilder 76 for example.
0 -
???
This was announced almost a year ago? What do you mean “all of a sudden”?
2 -
I am gay and I am on Twitter and I am not mad. You don't represent me.
Like David I also have ex-girlfriends and I have always been gay. It took time but I finally live proudly and openly as a gay man, and I love that David is finally out as gay as I could not be happier to be so represented. So please keep in mind that not everyone's story is the same and BHVR can always release new characters that are also LGBTQIA2+.
10 -
Representation is important to help normalise lgbt+ people and change social stigmas through media consumption. It actually happens.
5 -
They address it in his tome.
1 -
its 2022 and we have still to talk about this -.-
0 -
Precisely, except without the emoticon.
1 -
They are dedicating an entire Tome to him (his 2nd one) to expand on his story. I would imagine that it addresses his sexuality to some extent from David's point of view.
I care more about his story more than whether it was already an established character or not.
1 -
Considering the absolute outrage at someone possibly being gay, yes we're going to talk about it
3 -
I think either way it would have had some turbulence; a new character would feel just as forced, I think? Because regardless as to whether or not they had a personality, it'd be overshadowed by "they're gay", and it wouldn't feel any more natural. I worry that it might become a matter of "Selling sexuality", where the new character is unintentionally marketed to be The Gay One (tm), even if they had a cool personality. People would ignore that in favor of choosing their side on whether or not BHVR maliciously hid their representation behind a paywall.
But I do understand the frustrations about a well-known character being gay, even if I'm in favor of it. It's definitely a shock, and hard to adjust to if you've already grown accustomed to the character. You definitely have a right to be upset, since you're the very demographic they're trying to represent. I wonder what would have been done different in this circumstance; it feels like a lose-lose scenario. :( Maybe introduce the new character and ease into it with an accompanying tome, sort of like they're doing with David, but with a cleaner slate?
