Blood Debt - Is There A Worse (Modern) Archive Challenge?
Yes, white glyphs are awful and there are a fair few annoying gimmicks this time around (Dead Clever...argh) but I can't think of any other recent archive challenge that I've loathed to the level that I loathe this one.
For those who generally ignore survivor challenges, this requires you to get hooked, then unhook the person who unhooked you. Multiple times.
Sounds fine, right?
Well, this is what usually happens.
Anyone on this silly challenge tends to try to get themselves hooked early, then will play stupidly risky to unhook whoever unhooked them, even if it results in the game being thrown. This also seems to lead to a lot of annoyance, DCs, silly unhooks, people deliberately sandbagging each other...just bad feelings all round. I can't think of a time when I saw more survivors bickering in postgame than when this challenge is current.
Please, for the love of the Entity, make this a once off - or better yet, make it something like 'after getting unhooked, unhook another survivor in the same match' or something. This challenge isn't just annoying - it outright forces people to unplay the game.

Nah, this is more or less the only one I do not even attempt. I guess the hatch ones are really annoying nowadays, but those aren't "modern" anymore.

Any hatch ones are worse. If they stop putting the hatch ones in then Blood Debt will definitely be the worst, especially when playing against Pyramid Head that is caging instead of hooking players.

the variety of ######### situations that I got into while trying to do this one is ridiculous. I once spent from 11pm to around 2am to get the 4 saves and everytime was a different thing. There was a time I got saved by the same person when the said person was already dead on hook, the time I was saved by one person and both times I tried to save them with BT the killer (Bubba) went through them with both sweeps ignoring the endurance, the time I did the save but the person forced a grab for DS, the times you don't get saved at all, and variations of these + more
I just hate this one so much

Hey
If by some miracle archive challenge designers read this thread, I have a suggestion:
Please just make blood debt challenges 'Unhook a survivor who previously unhooked somebody earlier in the trial.'
Boom, done deal.
Here is a list of reasons why Blood debt challenges are badly designed:
1) They rely on you playing badly to get them done in a timely manner (Losing chase and being hooked)
2) They rely on the person who unhooked you playing badly and going down (Same as above)
3) If neither of the above happens at all during a trial, then the challenge cannot gain progress short of throwing (Which you don't want people to do)
4) They encourage bad habits such as hook diving and so on. If somebody else unhooks the person who unhooked you, once again - no progress.

Are there hatch ones these days?

I just won a game as Demo, literally because two survivors were constantly fighting over the unhooks, then when one didn't get it they went AFK.

Solving domestic disputes isn't in our job description as Killer.

Yeah. But I'd rather lose than win because someone decided to rage grief their team.

It's a tie between Blood Debt and Engineer's Guild.

What's that one again? It sounds...awfully familiar. In that it was probably awful.

Blood Debt, while annoying, isn’t that big of a deal since it’s a multi-trial mission, which, to me, are meant to be on in the background so you make occasional progress on them as you play
personally, I would say that Long Bomb is more annoying for 2 reasons
- Victor’s hitbox is so janky and inconsistent that you will most likely never a get a hit at any range other then point blank
- The quest sometimes bugs and doesn’t fill up even when it’s supposed to
one bit with Victor from 10 metres is impressive enough, but 2 is goddamn painful to get
and you have to do it in one goddamn trial
If the next part has this challenge again but with a higher requirement, I will scream so loud you can hear me from the White House

Repair gens co-op for x amount of time.
SWF? I get it 3 games max.
Solo... it's one of the few things that i've made a thread about rather than just the comments.

Last two tomes level 4 - tome 9 was for survivor to escape through hatch using Alert and tome 10 Killer had to close hatch 2 times.

Huh.
I got this one first time. I guess I lucked out.

I still think scourge of the purge is the dumbest challenge ever, but at least it was a one time thing. Blood debt, triage and engineer's guild are awful because you need to rely on teammates to get them done or even make any progress in those challenges.
1 -
It's something that completes itself if you play normally. It will just take longer than you like.
What's wrong with White glyphs? Once I found out you can still run while holding it, it wasn't a big deal anymore.

It's definitely up there. Down there? I think I hate all hatch-related challenges more (well, 'close the hatch' isn't bad, but 'escape through the hatch' is pure randomized BS at this point, to say little of 'do it carrying a map' or 'reopen it with a key'), and I will always have a special kernel of hate for Heroic Virtue and my teammates who Will Not Leave... and it's hard to dismiss those occasional killer or survivor-specific master challenges that want some very unlikely things to happen. But Blood Debt encourages early game throwing and subsequent farming the hell out of people, because you're more focused on beating everyone else to the right unhook than unhooking them safely. Awful and unhealthy gameplay, and they keep reusing it over and over.
At least they haven't done a 'do it twice in one game' version, because eesh.

Oh, that one? I just threw on the 'start together' and got it in 2 games.

I tried.
And tried.
And tried.
Alas, the one time I needed teammates to group on gens, they spread out as far as possible.

The single worst challenge right now is Botanist extraordinaire. Because it's bugged and it is downright impossible to complete.
1 -
I can't say I like those challenges, and I think they ask for more gens than they realistically should... but I find using Prove Thyself as a lure and Blast Mine to shine the bat signal of "hey, there's a person on a gen here, come here if you need a heal and then maybe come work on the gen with me after" works pretty well.

Can only speak for myself, but my issue with White Glyphs is less the glyph itself and more that it makes my teammates waste lots of time. A teammate with a White Glyph challenge is a teammate that's spending 30-45s faffing around for nobody's benefit, and also possibly a teammate that's going to get caught in the basement and start a snowball. You can afford that on a coordinated team, but on solo queue, it's not exactly something you want to see.
Of course, this is true with lots of survivor challenges - Craft Time's Over is another huge offender, and The Last Place You Look isn't great either.

i tried. blast mine, better together, prove thyself, offerings, bond, some combination of them, gesturing, etc. nothing worked.
and ofc the few trials id get about 3 seconds of co-op time id be tunneled out the game immediately.

Machinist. They toned it down a little with this level but I remember in a recent tome it was finish 3 generators in a single trial.
0 -
Wasn't it finish 4 at one point or was that just a nasty fever dream
0 -
Yeah, on the first tome. Dark Senses. What a nightmare. I got that one when I got paired with two clueless locker babies and one god David who looped the killer for five very slow gens (of which I did four and a half.) Had that challenge up for what had to be a hundred matches. Nothing short of a SWF or a massive astrological alignment is going to save you on that one.
1 -
Oh yeah, it was. That one was a PAIN.
1 -
Blood Debt is terrible design and I wish they would stop making more of them.
2 -
I remember that one.

Would be nice if the challenge was hook the same character as yourself. Jake saves Jake for instance
