Can we please have prestige clarification? It's the only confusing thing about the stream
Hi, so I stopped prestiging my Characters around the time Felix release, as I found I spend so much bloodpoints on them by the time I wanted to play a killer I'd have no bloodpoints or very little to buy the addons I wanted so I stopped.
Here's my question, the blog on the forums states that if you're P3 before the update comes out, your character will receive a "distinct" award, however I have spent many bloodpoints maxing the perks of most of these P1 survivors, the blog also states that If you have done this you will receive some sort of compensation in the form of prestige levels depending on what you've spent, will the "distinct" award be granted after the compensation or do I need to rush and get these survivors to P3 Level 1 to get these things?

Yeah, I'd love to know this too.

I was wondering the exact same thing when I read that. Some clarification on this would be really helpful.
8 -
Clarifications and an ETA as to when these changes will come, to know if it's worth rushing everyone to p3, or if it's going to be a useless charm.
EDIT: Oh and will it only be for original characters, or licensed ones as well?
7 -
Yea it's a little frustrating I don't want to waste time prestiging if I can still get it because they're all maxed P1, but I may lose time not starting immediately.
4 -
Yeah, I really wish we got more specific details on what's going to happen with the exclusive reward for people who have characters maxed out but not at P3. I don't want to lose all my items and BP offerings on my maxed out characters if I'm gonna be getting the rewards anyways. A quick response from the devs on this would be greatly appreciated, but I assume they're going to remain silent on this until the PTB with the new prestige system drops.
8 -
For the "maxed out but not p3" part, they did mention they would calculate how many perks you got and give you a sorta-prestige reward since you did go through the trouble of getting all those perks. I'd have to find the exact moment in the stream or the part of the transcript but I can't be bothered.
1 -
Yeah, I'm just wondering if those characters will get whatever the reward is for having prestige before the new system lands. Like, I have Kate, Feng, and Yui maxed out but none of them are prestige. If the update lands and they're all given prestige 3 (or more), will I get the reward as though I got prestige on them before the update landed? Would I be wasting my time getting them to prestige 3 before the update? Should I just go tunnel down P3 on the other survivors instead? If the devs end up adding legacy 2.0, I don't wanna wind up missing out on it on the characters I play the most because of a miscommunication.
1 -
Pretty sure the way I interpreted it is you would still get the reward because you worked for it and have something to show for it.. but I might just have misunderstood what they were saying

The best strategy for those who have never prestiged is to get the rest of the perks unlocked asap on the characters that matter to you to maximize the auto prestige.
I am so glad I have resisted prestiging since 2016 and only have 100 or so bloodwebs to go to reach all perks all killers. I have always favored perks over skins and not getting the perks taken away as punishment for prestiging will encourage everyone to do it.

The distinct P3 reward will be given to those who've reached P3 prior to the update going live...they must have actually reached P3 on their character/s prior. Whilst yes we are taking consideration into those who've not P3'd and got all perks (as explained in the blog post here: https://news.deadbydaylight.com/en/news/Prestige_Progression ) that is separate to the "distinct reward".
The reward is not going to be a cosmetic item - it's not the return of Legacy, I want to manage players expectations around that right now. As soon as I can go into details about what players will receive, I will be more than happy to, but just want to confirm that this will not be a clothing/charm item.
39 -
if its not fashion, whats the point?
(even then, its better than a charm)
3 -
Sounds like a character portrait border maybe?
2 -
Yeah it's sounding something like that to me. Probably like a "flair" which is what they did in deathgarden. So maybe something people can only see in the lobby or attached to your character portrait
1 -
Perk Overhaul is scheduled for Summer 2022 tentatively, this was my mistake.
1 -
So does this mean no more blood-covered cosmetics? What will happen to them and the ones we currently have?
1 -
I'm guessing it not being clothing/charm is because of the licensed characters?
0 -
The reward is not going to be a cosmetic item - it's not the return of Legacy, I want to manage players expectations around that right now.
By "not the return of Legacy", are you specifically talking about "Legacy" in terms of the golden / glowy cosmetics or "Legacy" as a concept, i.e. whatever the distinct reward is is something that will not be unobtainable after it is distributed?
🦆🦂
EDIT: To make it a bit clearer:
- Is the reward something that is in-game?
- Is the reward something that once distributed will become unobtainable by any other means?
2 -
I can't give further details as to what the reward is I'm afraid, I am just confirming that it's not a cosmetic item as people were starting to discuss the return of Legacy and I wanted to advise that this isn't the case.

I have a few characters prestiged (some to 3, some to 1), but most of them not. I wish I knew more specifics, because if I'm going to try and get everyone P3 for some kind of special reward I'd rather get started sooner so I don't have to cram as hard. On the other hand I don't want to start prestiging like a maniac without knowing what it is because maybe I wouldn't really care and would rather not lose all my items and extra effort prestiging people when I'd end up with more or less the same amount of progress if I kept all the perks/items. I don't want to end up playing 12 hours a day because they didn't tell us what it was until a week before it drops, but I don't want to prestige a bunch of people and lose a bunch of time/effort and stuff for something I didn't want
2 -
Maybe some Shards or ACs. Both would be quite nice.
0 -
from my understanding it's once you've reached P3, so no need to be at level 50 then.
But until we give out the full information, that can still change.
1 -
Do you know if details will be released a substantial amount of time before the prestige update goes live - like, a few weeks or a month? I'm fine with not knowing what the reward is at this stage, but I'd like to have time to decide whether to wait for the new system to prestige (where I can keep my stuff) or to cram prestiges (if the reward ends up being something I really want.)
This is going to become especially pertinent once 6th anniversary cakes start flying.
4 -
Will it also factor in how many level ups beyond P3 50? My Zarina for example would be approx P8 by now.
2 -
I would love to know more about this as well please - and it only feels fair. Personally, I'be currently got a ton of bloodpoints saved up and characters to prestige but I was using the strategy of using up all good add ons/items/offerings before doing so.
If the bloody cosmetics will stay for those that have them but can't be obtained anymore that is actually a form of legacy and I would prestige as much as I can. If the bloody cosmetics are still going to be obtained through prestige 1-3 then I would much rather used my saved bloodpoints to max out perks on my P1 characters.
I really hope that players like me that have been strategic about prestige don't get punished here. 😔
4 -
I legitimately cannot see them removing it, why? You can still prestige up to 3, but you can go beyond that so it's likely still the same, Tier 1 on everyone + a piece of bloody clothing.
0 -
I just hope it's not something super minor like a chunk of bloodpoints, I would love to feel like there was something that stood out even slightly over the 6k hours I've put into prestiging so many characters
6 -
I really hope you are right! I don't always trust things - especially as it wasn't mention and a lot of other details were specifically mentioned...
The legitimate reason I could see is that it would give old players something unique in addition to the reward, which might not be something that appeals to everyone. And it would not exactly be a new cosmetic or the reward so I don't see it as excluded in what Mandy said either.
The other question I hope we will have answered on time is whether the reward still warrants going for prestige now. I have all my characters at 50 and many of them I haven't levelled since hitting 50. That means I'm still not too heavily invested perk-wise. I reckon I could prestige a good chunk still if I wanted to but it would be good to know if it's worth it, especially as many of them still have good add ons/items/cake offerings that I would be destroying. My original strat was to use them up before I prestige, of course.

If it's not a cosmetic I don't know what you could give us that really justifies the amount of BP we sank into the bloodwebs.I hope it's not just blood points or shards.
4 -
I just hope whatever you guys are doing, its meaningful since a lot of people have put in the time and effort over the years to max a lot of people, that's why a lot of people are nervous its not a skin or something like that.
3 -
If Its not cosmetic or charm (thank God no charms pls), then only thing that comes to my mind as the most % chance are BP and shards.
I am 99.99% sure that AC will not be given because that would be way too good and very losing $ for Devs.
I mean if it is just shards and BP... Doesn't sound much special or worth it unless there is huge ammout of shards which again probably not because it would be big lose for $$.
1 -
I agree.
BPs dont really seem a fit reward, if you prestiged everyone to P3 you dont really need that many BPs anymore, ACs are out of the question, you can get licensed characters with them so they have to pay the holder for every unlock, shards are similar to ACs, they are free since you cant unlock licenses but they would lose potential income from people unlocking a lot of stuff with them, especially new chapters.
If its not a charm or cosmetics it has to be something entirely new not yet implemented because there isnt room left for anything else plus the rewards have to be related to each charater at P3.

So if I already have P3 on all characters, does that mean that when the update goes live I will have all teachables on level 3 on all characters already unlocked?
1 -
Yes
0 -
My theory is that it will be something like a golden border around the character portrait or different font/color in these
3 -
Maybe it's a new emote other than the pointing and come here hand gestures.
0 -
Those can affect gameplay, I dont think its game related stuff for that reason.
@Simfeliz said someone suggested custom portraits, at first I tought that was a bit absurd for nobody can see other people portraits unless you are a streamer, is an awful reward but then I tought what if they want to release a new interface similar to what Dota2 and Starcraft 2 have?, with a global chat with profiles and chat emoticons and the likes, maybe the rewards are tied to something like that and are indeed P3 related portraits?. Its one of the few things that come to mind if the rewards are not cosmetics or ingame currency.

Maybe it's 33,333 BP 🤣
3 -
Well, I quit DBD for good then. Thanks for ruining my experience. I haven't prestiged any of my characters over stupid cosmetics and now I'll lose all my teachables learned on all my survivors and killers. Bad decision. I'll be enjoying Evil Dead where they released a better balanced 4v1, where I won't have to worry about losing anything I've earned already. Have fun losing more players.

Or the character icons being added to the scoreboard with a border around them. Killer wouldn't be visible in those options.
🦆🦂

"and now I'll lose all my teachables learned on all my survivors and killers" no you wont. what are you even talking about

I know this won't change anything, but I do want BHVR to recognize the extreme disappointment for not being willing to acknowledge the efforts needed to get P3AP. This may sound a little rude, but I don't want Iri shards, i don't need more blood points, and I sure as hell don't want a charm for the amount of effort I put in.
If my reward for the last 4 years of grinding characters is a new number on the endgame screen, then my time with Dead truly will have been wasted
Sorry to get heated, but of all the things BHVR has announced/done over the years, this one REALLY gets me
0 -
I don't think bhvr even knows because otherwise there's no reason to be secretive about it.
0 -
I mean… yeah? That’s pretty much the reason they literally state often why they don’t share everything beforehand: things are not set in stone yet and even though it’s in development they can still change because things don’t work out as expected or might even not be fully designed yet.
1 -
I don't even think they've thought of the reward yet either.
0 -
lol. Then they wouldn’t even have a reason to mention it at all in the stream though, they could have just stated it will be some shards or BP.
No they have something in mind, it’s been confirmed it’s a ‚distinct‘ reward and it’s not normal cosmetic pieces nor charms. Maybe they still have a few different concepts and are debating which makes the most sense and works out best.
0 -
I think they have at least and I'll be generous 4 things that the reward could be.
Blood points, auric cells, possibly a charm (dependant on what they count as cosmetic), or something else that's probably generic.
BP and auric ells aren't distinct really, charms are garbage in almost any video game, and I don't think it'll be anything big or exciting.
0 -
Mandy already confirmed it won’t be a. charm.
and obviously it shouldn’t be something too big or exciting or they will piss off those that didn’t have chars on P3 and create another Legacy situation…
0 -
You're not losing anything, those who've not prestiged will still get the perks unlocked on the other characters and be given the same levels of perks in relation to what they've unlocked - this is the catch-up system in the blog post.
The only thing that's not available is the reward for the players who have P3'd their characters.
3 -
I just hope they do tell us beforehand to some players can decide whether it's worth it or not.
0 -
I hope whatever the reward is, will be something as exciting as a legacy skin because a lot of playtime went in to prestiging all of my killers to p3 :/
