Ok i picked this killer yesterday for a test drive, and as i was choosing things to buy on the bloodweb i had the onryo teleporting and giving me a freaking terrible jumpscare, i spilled my coffee on the table, i get scared extremely easily and this killer is creepy AF and gives me shivers, now i have a problem i want to play it but im afraid of having that jumpscare.. i know sounds stupid for some but for me its a problem, i always stay only about 15 seconds in it and then i get back to main menu and select it again, to prevent the jumpscare.. please give us a way to not have it

If you dont know about it and she caughts you unaware or really focused at something on the screen it can be scary, most videos I saw about that its people doing Bloodwebs and focusing on the nodes, I suppose if you know the jumpscare or you are just glancing at your screen it may not surprise as much.

The novelty dried up pretty quickly imo.

That said, the "tell" that she's preparing to jumpscare is that she tilts her head up and her hair parts, revealing more of her face. Like others have said, if you spin the killer you'll also get a more obvious tell when she instantaneously resets her facing to look towards you again.

When Im playing Sadako I usually disable game audio until I get into a lobby - something I commonly do for a lot of killers since I find the bloodweb UI noise to be unnecessarily loud.

Its just, that the streamers reactions: *throwing things around, screaming and falling from the chair* looked just over exagerated to me.

Thats why i wondered. But if @Lima24927 spelled his coffee, then well. I might be less sensitive to such things.

    But good to know.

As someone who quasi-mains her, it still gets me from time to time when I'm not paying attention. Not scream-out-loud spooked, but definitely startled.

    Tsulan Member Posts: 15,095

Being startled isn´t the same as the reactions the streamers had. Some were even running away.

If you search dbd sadako jump scare on yt. You get the weirdest reactions.

The ones I saw werent like that, just the usual "AAAAGH" from regular jumpscares, same as people getting startled on cinemas, but yes, throwing stuff around or running away is pretty much exaggerated and probably an act, after all streamers make their money by amusing the viewers, the more shock value the better.

    Awww this is cute.

    Thats what i mean.

But good to know, that there are some people, who can really get affected by this. Wasn´t aware of that.

I remember watching a RE2: Remake video of streamers getting scared, most were the usual and normal 2-3 seconds "YAAAAGH!" but there was this Korean girl who got startled and didnt scream just started breathing very hard and clutching her chest, the way people do when they get REALLY scared (doesnt mean she is going to have a heart attack but getting really scared makes your heart race like there is no tomorrow)

P.D. I work in a refinery, I saw people doing that after an accident with an explosion as loud as bomb, we all thought we were gonna die that day.

I forgot this a horror game, did you?

The refinery thing is kinda understandable. We also have a refinery nearby. A couple of years ago, there was a huge explosion.

I don't find it scary but it does get annoying if she keeps doing that over and over while I am just trying to get through the blood web, so I'd welcome it if they at least reduce the frequency of it

I would be almost jealous of the exaggerated reaction of some. I now have so many years of experience with the horror genre (movies, books, video games) that I feel absolutely nothing about jumpscare.

When I first got Sadako's, I just did "Meh..." and I was almost sad about it because it was good originality from the developers.

I find it annoying but of course killer just have to deal with it lol, Like I choose I play killer why am I the one getting jumpscare it makes no sense. It’s even more annoying that it’s just a looped animation replaying every minute

  • GentlemanFridge
    GentlemanFridge Member Posts: 5,796

It’s not looped. It’s entirely random. I’ve had her do it twice in a row, but I’ve also gone entire play sessions without her doing it at all.

If you're trying to get used to her I'd say record it or find a video of it. Play it in slow motion, rewind it, play it faster, skip around. Just really analyze it and try to break it down to the most analytical way possible. Desensitize yourself by exposing yourself. Try to analyze the creation of her, imagine how the modeling, textures, and rigging interact. Imagine how the wireframe would look in an animation, people methodically putting in frame after frame to make it jump at you. Consider her an inanimate representation of a system created for recreation and fun. Modeled in a quiet, clean and artistic development studio.Try to think of her as less of a person, a creature, or a sentient being. Just a simple triggered animation based on a calculation fed through RNG.

If you're bored you can try to write a small paragraph or two from the perspective of Onryo if she were a character in a story. Detail very briefly a more playful attitude about her doing the jump scare. Maybe a more whimsical tone like a kid hiding behind a door to say 'Boo!' and laughing when you get scared. Make her seem harmless.

Try to wait out jumpscares and clap and cheer for her, 'Woo! You got me. Good on you!' if you separate it from scary you can hopefully associate your mind with it being more fun and lighthearted than 'AH ######### SCARY!'

Hell throw a single frame into paint and start cropping parts of her and dragging them around, realize that someone modeled that eye, that hair, that smile, and you in your little paint project are doing exactly what they are (With a less refined program.)

    Something like this

Then play the game and get scared anyways.

I agree, hopefully they change it. Because that's why I never can update her and just has to avoid playing her. I don't know why she even does that to us when we are the one playing her.

you are lucky, i cant play horror games, i was able to beat RE 2(old one) but thats it, and dino crisys, thats it, im extremely afraid of even playing horror games, i just watch videos on youtube or read wikipedia, i wouldnt be able to play things like silent hill

They're probably fake but first time when she did it agains't me I had no idea she could do that and I almost got heart attack. Since then im bit scared to play her. But when I do I turn my volume off and just put quickly ready to avoid it.

Spilling one's drink is one thing. But screaming? Falling from the chair? Throwing things? I'm having an hard time believing it's not plain bad acting.

I just pretend I don't care so she gets bored and stops trying to scare me.

It's really annoying it's why I just mute my headphones if sadako in the lobby

They should up the rarity of it happening. Would have been cool if it was almost a myth level of obscurity like some of the rare reload animations in battlefield.

At the beginning I could not even launch Slender more than 5 minutes without leaving the game when I had no headset and I was not in the dark, haha.

Don't ever play Phasmophobia. You'll never have a full cup of coffee on your desk again. I love the Onryo jump scare. Scary themes is something I want to see a lot more of in DBD!
