A few questions to my fellow OG gamers!

Since I started playing in 2020, there are some things I never got to experience. And since I'm way too lazy to find answers to these questions myself, I'm gonna ask instead :)

  1. When did they remove Hatch Grabs?
  2. Was there a time when survivors had more than 3 hook states?
  3. How bad was the grind exactly when you could get Legacy?
  4. If you compare DBD from now and then, is the game in a better state?
  5. Since Legion introduced Deep Wound, how did BT work before?
  6. If Freddy was so bad on release, why did no one like to play against him?

The only question I think I can answer is 4 to which I would say for the most part its in a better state now than when I started playing. I remember when most matches there was a red mori and all the killer had to do was hook you once to use it. So many matches were a tunnel fest and ended fast with all survivors dead and hardly nothing done. I remember giving a lot of feedback on this back in the day and was so glad they changed that. It felt good to be able to play the game for more than just a moment every match.

    1. IIRC when they introduced EGC, after the release of Plague(?)

    2. No, never

    3. I wasn't around at the time but it was VERY bad, items used to have a different cost solely based on their position in the bloodweb, not their rarity, and you could get only 1 perk per bloodweb

    4. The gameplay is surely more balanced, if you were to transport the knowledge and tactics of today's survivors in old dbd it'd be impossible to play killer

    5. It gave an extra health state, just like Mettle of Man does today (and it used to give it to both the unhooked AND the unhooker)

    6. It was totally invisible unless you were sleeping and had aura reading on you while you were asleep outside his terror radius, and you were doing ANYTHING 50% slower while asleep

It sucked for Freddy too because once he found an awake survivor, he'd have to put them to sleep MANUALLY before being able to hit them, and that took 7 seconds

    1. Yes.

    2. No, as much MaM to 3 hit down.

    3. Pain.

    4. More toxic, better gameplay.

    5. I think the same, but too long to remember.

    6. It was bad. 5 secods delay just for a M1 but Permaivisible + Insidious was a thing

    1) Mid 2020 about, effectively replaced it with closing the hatch.

    2) No

    3) Horrible. Not to say its much better now though.

    4) Game is better now than it used to be, but again, that's not saying much considering how absolutley wretched early DBD was, and there are still a lot of problems that still exist today that are still from that era.

    5) You used to just get downed after 40 seconds.

    6) Because he was very boring and tedious to play against. He was like a fly constantly buzzing around your head, not a threat to you in the slightest, but extremely annoying.

Not a veteran that played since release, but I can answer some of these.

1: With the introduction of the EGC.

2: No. Not that I know of (again, didnt play when the game first released, take with grain o’ salt.)

    3: Can’t answer this one.

4: Also can’t really answer this one, but in my mind it’s vastly improved overall.

5: BT would cause a white bar to appear beneath the unhooked survivor’s icon when they were hit while BT was active. That white bar was effectively the same as the current Deep Wound. This was then called a ‘Bleed-out Timer’. If it ran out or the killer got another hit, you went down.

6: Can’t answer this one in full confidence either, but he was considered “overpowered” on release by the devs, and nerfed within 2 weeks. Many found that unjustified, yet he went without buffs until his total rework. As for why people didn’t play him, I couldn’t tell you.
