Baby Survivor Epidemic?

Up until a few days - a week ago, my killer matches have been nonstop back to back sweatfests where if I wasn't playing nurse or spirit, I would be constantly be fighting tooth and nail for ties, often having to hardcore camp/tunnel to achieve this. However recently I've been playing tons of Legion and Billy. It followed that same sweatfest pattern until all of a sudden, I've been getting incredibly easy 4ks with dcs where only 1-2 good survivors in a match and way less people running dead hard. As well as this, my daytime killer ques have gone from about 5 minutes at least to now where it's a minute more or less. Did the devs change something with the matchmaking? It's been very consistent up until now. Admittedly, it is more fun than before since I don't HAVE to tunnel and camp consistently, but these are NOT players I should be matched with. It's even starting to get to a point where I get no satisfaction from winning. Is anyone else experiencing this too? (for context, I have 1.25k hours and play on PC)

While yes, i agree that going easier against lower skilled survivors should be the norm.

I also have to kinda disagree, because the sbmmr won´t make anyone a favor in this regard. The low skill players will get matched against better killers and the high skill killer will face worse survivors.

They could be killer mains that never play survivor and are only playing that side to get tome challenges done - similar to what seems like baby killers actually being survivor mains trying to complete killer tome challenges. Or some survivors managed to convince their friends to try playing so you have that experienced player with the new players. Or matchmaking is just bad and is tossing new players to the wolves. 😂

    I had a similar experience.

Now, when I play Nurse and I feel like the opposing team may be inexperienced, I play without any perk nor add-ons.

(And sometimes I'm wrong and I'm instead going against 2/3k hours survivors but it's still fun to play with a severe handicap.)

I still kill 3, if I can, and give one hatch because it doesn't count.

Yeah I got faced with 4 survivors that weren’t on my skill level. I was playing Freddy. And I could have ended the match in 3 minutes they were making a ton of mistakes. But I like being nice so I killed ace and bill and let Jane and feng do all the gens and escape

Hmmm no clue. Has anyone posted a Steam chart since the anniversary announcement & blood hunt began? I think that would be interesting to look at.

For sure! I mean, when I'm playing killer I tend to have a fairly merciless reflex when it comes to punishing survivor's greed, but often times what a seasoned survivor knows is ambitiously greedy, a brand new survivor is just still learning. So for example if I've already discovered that the team I'm up against is clearly not out to play the best game of their careers against me and are making amateurish mistakes, if someone divebombs a hook in front of me and fails, Ill just leave them slugged by the hook (and not come back). The time a third survivor has to then take to unhook + pick up the slug + whatever healing they want to do tends to make up for the surrendered hookstate.

But ya know, everyone's welcome to play how they like - I just mean to say that its like being a competitive chess player going up against their nephew. You might know they foolishly played into your checkmate in six turns, but they sure don't - and confounding them with your elite chess skills is more than likely just going to go over their head since they're busy remembering what directions the pieces are allowed to move.

    Thanks guys!

Well there you go, @Molerat1223 - there’s your answer! Last time there was an influx of players was September of 2021! So yea, bunch of newbies and returning players since the announcement and blood hunt.

Exactly. Unless I have like a 4K objective, if I'm hooking left and right and gens are not popping at ALL I ease up and play slower. Maybe just hit them and let them go. And usually let at least one escape.

But would the survivors do the same to low skilled killers ease up and let them get a few hooks or a kill it's fine to ask one side to do it if the other side is willing to do the same thing, if i play a killer i haven't played or touched in ages i have yet to see survivors ease up and let me get some hooks or a kill but if im playing killer and i can tell they are new or having a hard time i'll get my bbq stacks then just have some fun after.

I'll still chase and down them but instead of hooking them i'll let the teammates pick them up, if they are having trouble because im putting to much pressure and ruin just keeps taking the gens back to 0 ill show one of them were ruin is so the game can move along and depending on the killer i play i might meme around a bit i.e the pig ill see how many people i can get to boop the snoot.

I certainly do! Though I think killers tend to interpret survivors actively loafing around when they're busy trying their best as some kind of insult where survivors tend to view killers actively forgiving mistakes in a more benevolent light. You're right that you're certainly not obligated to do so, and I'd back you on the notion that there's some double standards at play in this community, but I think it'd be better to embrace doing things the way you want to for its own sake and hold firm to the notion that you deserve to be respected for doing so just as much as the next player for doing things their way, than to need to bust out the abacus and calculate that survivors are, on the whole, less likely to extend those same kindnesses to you in order to justify playing the way you'd like to.

tl;dr It's hard to form a behaviorally egalitarian model of player behavior in an asymmetrical context, just do what vibes well with you 😊

An influx of newer players could definitely result in easier matches for those of us who are more experienced. Main thing that still feels weird is that I'm being chucked into these lobbies incredibly quickly. I would expect to join these lobbies once the matchmaking system realizes there aren't enough players on at the time that are near my skill level, but they happen within the span of 1 maybe 2 minutes. I'm off work still, so I'll be playing more throughout the day and evening and seeing if my results change for better or for worse.

The answer to this is never lol. I recently had a Nurse daily that I tried to do. I'm on console and blow with Nurse. I got matched against a 4 Iron Will/Dead Hard sweat squadron 3000 on Badham. 4 gens were done in 3 minutes and I had 0 hooks and maybe 4 injures. Did the survivors let up and allow me to get a hook? No lol they just kept pressing E and juking/blocking line of sight. Last gen is done at like 4 minutes and I just open the gates and sit at the edge of the map looking at the sky. They sat around teabagging around me for the entire EGC.

I have almost 3k hours in the game and I've had exactly one survivor give me a free kill when I had a bad game

Yes, when i notice they are clearly new. I try to go soft on them. (i remember a match, where instead of killing, i just carried the survivor to the basement and dropped him there.) Endgame ggeeeez from that survivor.

But then, when i stomp a new team, but let them get some bloodpoints before killing them, so they don´t get into undeserved mmr ranks. They also complain. Even when they died with 27k bloodpoints.

I felt the same as survivor, since i'm not that good at looping i was often hooked quite fast, but since a few days ago, i get matched against killer that i can run for 3/4 generator, it's to the point where even 4 hook is starting to be a good game for the killer i'm against. Maybe the matchmaking is broken again.
