End-game hatch pointless???

You know, when there's one last survivor and there's hatch and then specifically when the killer finds it and closes it... it's basically just a waiting game of the survivor going to die.

What's the point of the game doing this? We all know the killer could easily keep up between the two gates and prevent them from leaving.

Imo, this is a big time waster. It almost always happens that the survivor dies in this scenario so what's the point.

I´m not sure if you´re asking for the hatch to be removed.

Its a free escape if you find it first. But can be tricky if the killer finds it first. Best chances of survival are to go to a gate and wait for the killer to close the hatch. There might be sufficient time to open the gate and escape.

I'm asking why this scenario is even a thing, it's a time waster.

Ive even crawled to the gate when a slug, killer closes hatch, it procs adrenaline, I am on my feet opening hatch and out the gate before killer can get there.

One of my favorite escape tactics LOL I always run adrenaline just in case

I escaped yesterday through the gates after hatch was closed. It's very hard and not always happens, but it still is possible to escape. Depends on RNG, but I'll take the chance of RNG. Doesn't waste too much time tbh. It can be a little annoying if the survivor doesn't attempt to open the gates at all and just afks in a corner or locker, but no big deal.

See but that's an incredibly lucky and rare scenario that most don't face... but I also want to mention that the killer in that case honestly probably just waits around thinking you're going to bleed out not paying attention that you're up with adrenaline.

If I don't think I'll be able to open the gates I go around the map looking for totems to cleanse and chests to open for any extra BP before I die since usually if hatch is being closed it means I'm missing out on BP from repairing gens/escaping. Kind of like when survivors don't leave and killer goes around map breaking any pallets /doors they missed for extra BP. Sometimes I'll try to see where hatch spawned to know for future matches. It's pretty funny being away from the doors and watching the killer run back and forth guarding them while I cleanse a totem/search a chest.

Exactly! Sometimes the gates have also enough distance to open it in the time it takes the killer to check both.

It kinda keeps the tension until the last moment.

Yeah as a killer, it's not always easy to keep up watch on both gates, especially if you are running a slower one. A lot of times even if the gates are fairly close, there are enough LoS blockers where you have to get very close to the gate to actually check it.

I was super critical of the hatch change when it happened. It felt like way too much of a change that made hatch plays a much less common thing in the game in my opinion. It is a good idea to bring a hatch key now and then and put it somewhere safe just incase you're the last survivor but honestly you're probably going to end up losing a lot of keys if you forget to pick it up or don't make it that far.

Because it was an overzealous nerf BHVR made to stop 3 man escapes (valid complaint) which they said they were going to 'review again shortly' and never have.

I guess it bites too much into their time for making more killers and survivors no one wants or asked for.

Hatch escapes are super easy with Clairvoyance.

Otherwise you need to have this to end the game.

What would happen otherwise? Hide and seek for an hour with last survivor?

Gates are RNG and depends on map / killer, but it's often possible to get escape if you play it well.

    Someone never 30% the gate.

You can escape through the gates, though? It really depends on the killer's power and how the gates spawn. Nurse and Artist - you're not getting out through the gates, ever, even if you 20% it. Dredge will probably be the same. Blight and Wraith are the same way on most maps, but very convoluted indoor maps might slow them down enough to facilitate an escape. And Trapper, Plague, Twins, and Demo can all create alerts that you're starting a gate if they set up before you reached the area.

Past that, though, it depends how close the gates are and whether there's a point between them that allows line of sight. If they're close, or the killer can stand on a hill and see both switches with minimal movement, you're screwed. If not, you'll probably be able to escape unless you mess up or the killer tricks you into thinking they're leaving for the other gate and then doubles back. Like, on Midwich, you'll virtually never manage the gates unless the killer takes pity on you, but on Lery's, RPD, or Swamp, if the killer can't teleport, there's nothing they can do to stop you.

The hatch was created to stop people from holding the game hostage. Back in the day, it was miserable playing killer when the last survivor had 2 gens to go, and would just hide forever instead of finishing the gens and opening the doors. It was hide or die. The endgame collapse and hatch give both killer and survivor a reason to actually play the game to the end. After the gens are done, both sides have a chance of winning, so they play.
