Lower the profanity filters maybe?
You might want to re-work the profanity filters. I typed "Way to be persistent Meyers" and it hashed Meyers. Then I typed "Why is his last name filtered" and it hashed "is his last name".

what do you mean the word filter pefecttly ########## friend, you should just ##########, it is working just how ##########

I mean, a forced profanity filter in an adult game is kinda... yeah, just make it an option like literally every other game, then if someone has issues with cussing they don't have to see it and the rest can actually type a normal sentence like, names of perks/characters xD

It censored for me Claudette, so i replaced it with Clowndette. Works the same, highly recommend XD

Today it censored "do" because I typed a player's name - Wedow and it censored it, so I typed "we do" and it censored do. lol
I mean, I understand wanting to stop people from being toxic, but whatever "Smart AI" filter they've coded, it's just garbage. Pay some teen minimum wage to write out a list of every profanity imaginable and then put all of them in a black list. Then update it any time someone complains. lol

Gotta love it when you are totally not being toxic and the filter makes you end up seeming toxic.
Gotta love ###### gg ######
Um, wow... was that sarcasm, bro? Lay off on the salt.
Hell, one game I play the word Saturday is censored along with many in-game titles and ability names... at least that game you can turn OFF the profanity filter if you so choose. Their filter seems to censor any word that contains a censored word, even if it should not... So I am sure I don't need to tell you why Saturday gets censored, take a good look and you can probably find the 'bad' word in there (laughable as it is)... Actually surprised that "assassin" isn't censored, but I guess being an actual class name and not just an ability loadout gave it the whitelist, where "sharpshooter" did not get a whitelist.
Oh then another game there is an in-game vehicle called the Gargoyle, yet you can't say it's name in chat because that word contains the word that Jewish people call non-Jewish people, which apparently is bad. (Oh and you can't say Jewish either, like at all.) Like this game, that game does not allow one to turn off their profanity filter.

Add Borka Bork and Bo to the list of forbidden words :P
Maybe if we all just post every word we discover is censored, it'll catch Behavior's attention.
0 -
Killed Everyone is apparently also forbidden.

... in a game that is literally about killing people. The irony is strong in this one.

I tried to start that thread a while back - https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/274015/the-go-home-chat-filter-youre-drunk-mega-thread#latest

You thought those censorship #s were about profanity? XD
Man you need to catch up to whats been going on around here for the last two years or so...

@smappdooda Ooh, you got two pages of comments too. That's good progress :) I think maybe the issue though is your title is a little too on the nose :P
I'm a try to get at least 10 pages here. If I post daily it might happen :P

I don't really care about how much it filter, just let me turn it off completely.
When I can survive their abuse during the game, I can do it in post game chat too.

Oh wow, it's definitely not a "Profanity filter". I said "Wow, ######### team mates" today because two people left someone on the hook and exited, and it didn't# anything... and apparently 3 #'s in a row makes my whole post caps? lol.
0 -
Even better is the fact that I said Pooey with an "Sh" in the game and it didn't hash it, and then it's hashed in the forums! lol
The consistency is amazing devs!

It also doesn't work well with other languages than English. I don't remember what I was writing in German but it was definitely a normal sentence without any bad words or words that were close to a bad word in English or German.
0 -
Or just give us the option to disable it
0 -
I mean like honestly... it's an 18+ game...
I agree with auto-censoring slurs, but other than that if you're going to keep the filter, at least make it optional.
I never saw anyone claim the toxicity has gone down since the filter has gone up. Players don't need to be crude or use insults to be toxic, and hashtags convey the toxicity just fine; but players do need to use the characters' names and words such as "kill" to discuss what happened in the game.
Make seeing chat optional on all platforms & make the profanity filter optional as well.

You know, the frustrating thing about the #s is that someone might think you're being rude or toxic when you're actually not. lol. In my eyes, they make it worse.
1 -
Yes absolutely, sometimes i say the most innocent things and the filter makes it sound like im wishing awful things on someone's mom lol
2 -
Totally.

The profanity filter is a nuisance. The word "you" is filtered out. Some survivors' names (e.g. Yun-Jin) are filtered out.... ????
Also, in the new David King's lore, there's a ton of profanity. And yet the chat is being filtered.... Hello....??
I think that the censoring of the chat should be eliminated, it doesn't really do much good, it only blocks communication, and frustrated people.

Totally.

Mills is also #ed. Cause you know, that's borderline racist :P
0 -
Chance is also hashed. My god. Who coded this garbage? I swear this post will be 50 pages long by the time I finish.
0 -
there was a game where it censored "you" and every single word after "you" in the entire chat... it's ridiculous
like "I wanted to let you live, but you forced me to play hard" became "I wanted to let ### ####, ### ### ###### ## ## #### ####"
and even if I typed "you" by itself it was still censored for no reason

I think they must have a team of monkeys who sub in for the programmers when they're on vacation or something, and they were the ones who coded the chat filter system :P
1 -
You Campy also filtered.
0 -
Teleporting was also filtered... makes no sense
0 -
Camp is also filtered. Definitely wouldn't want anyone talking about camping in a game like DBD. It's far too offensive :P
0 -
Yourself was also filtered.
0 -
Folley and Folly were filtered. First one was a spelling mistake :P
0 -
Claire was also filtered. Heaven forbid I reference a character by name.
0 -
Face Camp is also filtered.
0 -
and camp on its own
0 -
Actually, I think this profanity filters make chats funnier.
0 -
Until people think you're swearing when you're not :P
0 -
the profanity filter is like the devs. completely useless and incompetent. that's putting it lightly though
0 -
Wow, that's harsh. I mean obviously not if they made a super popular game like DBD that you clearly love playing enough to get on the forums and talk about it :P I get where your frustration comes from though :P

Prior person said it best - and adult game with profanity filters is beyond ironical - just plain stupid. Let them turn off the chat feature if they don't like the language (or better yet become of age before playing an adult game). It's like the Anon mode - just makes people more toxic but they keep it in to protect streamers people try to avoid because they harass people and are just as toxic.

well that is when it becomes fun!

Actually, yes. Giving players the option to disable or enable chat would be great. Granted, fine-tuned controls would be better as some people may want a filtered chat. It is strange that this is the default setting though. Players should be able to choose if they want full chat, filtered chat, or no chat. Filtered chat WAS an option originally, then they forced it on everyone.
