Dredge Darkness is far too dark on certain maps
I have only played against the Dredge once on the Japanese map and Darkness restricts visibility to 3 feet in none illuminated areas (everywhere). This causes myself to just run into objects and is just not fun, This is classed as "true blindness" for the repeated long durations of the Darkness ability.
Since i have only played against the Dredge once (and will be the last until addressed), i will assume that darker maps will be even more impacted and lighter maps less impacted. Meaning the ability has no consistency and can completely remove a players primary sense in a video game... making the game impossible to play.

This is -far- darker than it was on PTB, to the point of barely being able to see the generator I'm working on.
Maybe somewhere in the middle between live and ptb brightness would be fine? Seriously tho, Mending vfx has also been too dark for awhile now as well. Feel like I need to learn to play dbd blindfolded.

I'm very happy that it got fixed from PTB but holy does it feel a bit too dark. Especially the edges (kind of like Boons but worse).
11 -
I think it's alright but it's a bit too dark, or maybe the zone that you can see is a bit too small imo,
1 -
I don't mind the darkness. If it's too bright then why have it in the first place?
11 -
Yeah I do agree this might be too much. It definitely doesn't remove visibility completely, I am still able to see my close surroundings, but it's dfeinitely harder to navigate, and arguably too hard for people that aren't as experienced with DBD.
4 -
I really wanna see how that looks like with mending effects
8 -
well DBD, you finally did it! You put the worst ######### thing from almost every 1st person horror game and put it into yours. Limited visuals just piss me off. The only thing they do is take fun away from players. Any time it activates i'm like "I can't see worth ######### for awhile." That is not fun it is not engaging. The darkness doesn't even make the dredge stronger in chase anyway, at the distances of chases you'll STILL see the killer just fine anyway. The darkness of the nightfall is nothing but artificial frustration. I don't think i'll be playing much until the "new killer novelty" wears off. I do NOT want to deal with crap in 9/10 matches!

I personally like it. This is Saloon. I think the way it is currently is good, and will take a bit of getting used to.
2 -
Just see better it’s not that hard.
14 -
It's almost as bad as killer fov
6 -
I mean this is what they meant when "you have to navigate in total darkness" not like the ptb where it was just a fog basically.

It's pretty disorienting and I don't think I like it, but at the same time, it's not the kind of thing that can get numbers-tweaked like perks or speeds can? Since it's a purely visual effect, increasing the brightness to the point where it's not oppressive makes it so that it doesn't really do anything. If you can see where you're going, it may as well not be there. It was definitely too weak before, so I'm hesitant to nerf it now.
But I do think it may need to be looked at on a map-by-map basis. As it is, it's not much on daytime maps and too much on dark maps like Midwich, Yamaoka, or Autohaven.
2 -
Then it was a horrible idea in the first place... as no force on earth is going to get me to roleplay as a blind person playing a video game.
3 -
One of the Brightest maps in the game...

Yeah its not like you can't see anything. That's quite the exaggeration. It will probably take getting used to a bit as well.
But it does seem to much, at least for newer players.

Has anyone tried using a flashlight while the Dredge's nightfall? I'm asking because I wonder if it makes it easier to see when maneuvering? You should also be able to see the Dredge because it glows.
Also, is this happening on PC, console, or both? I ask these because I'm sure the devs will ask them as well.

Night Fall seems pretty consistent to me. This was Autohaven. Saloon was just as dark. Little disorienting at first, but not so much after you adjust.
0 -
Tell me... What map and exact location is this?
And enhancing the image in anyway is cheating.
0 -
If they make any changes, it needs to remain on the side of "Nightfall has a meaningful impact on the survivors" and not "Nightfall does not have any impact on the survivors"
4 -
Can't see anything with him as killer!!!
0 -
what is this it's so long and annoying, + he's undetectable and you can't prevent it like pinhead passive ?? It's so stupid who thought it was a good idea, really not fun
3 -
Greedy bird gobbling up all the light.

The problem lays in consistency... there is none. They have put a extreme overlay filter over the screen with no consideration of map lighting. Doesn't take a Einstein to work that one out.
They have adjusted the ability so it fulfils that definition on light maps at the extreme detriment of dark maps.
Basically... they have dug a hole before planning said hole. As there is not going to be a middle ground with such a current design feature.
1 -
It looks far better than the ptb, hope it stays.
1 -
I mean if you have any semblance of map knowledge it will do absolutely nothing as you can look at tiles in advance before nightfall.
1 -
It’s no issue when you know the maps. It’s just new and we gotta adapt
1 -
I don't know what you're playing on, but I can barely see the gen. I'm on a 43" calibrated 4k display in a blacked out room. My display is plenty bright enough as is. DBD is the only game that is consistently too dark in some spots. I don't mind darker than normal - but basically navigating blind is absolutely too much to ask of players.
5 -
I mean there is a gen and other objects right in front of the survivor, so that makes it harder, but I am still pretty certain It's the new map. And I can see the surroundings, even if it's admittedily not as easy.
0 -
You can check a whole map and item placement before a nightfall? Got to love those AFK's right!?
And it don't matter how much i know a map... it's very simple (as i have previously stated)... "i am not playing a game blind"... no mechanic, law or policy is ever going to change that.

Same reaction when clown gas was introduced. Calm down and maybe try dealing with it (like we do everything here) until we are past the gut reaction and actually had time to get a real feel for it and then collectively decide if it’s truly too dark.
the sky is not falling.
2 -
I can still see through clown gas... and... i can just walk out of it.
0 -
I REALLY like how dark it is. It's finally intimidating to play against a killer as survivor
0 -
My dude, I play on a PS4 Pro with a 58" 4k TV in a blacked out room. You aren't navigating blind. Granted, some maps might be worse but I managed to navigate Autohaven just fine.

Anyways, i have done the compulsory "Notify the developers" and am moving on until/if addressed. This thread is a statement, not a debate for me.
If i go blind in a match... just remember... "i will not play a game blind"... no if's... no but's.
2 -
Well you technically arent playing the game blind if you have a map layout in your head and know where you currently are. Also you dont have to run to every corner of the map to know what it looks like... You can see literally the entirety of the map from shack on gas heaven. It doesnt need to be nerfed especially not in the games state right now.

Hardly seems like the first killer power to have significant variance based on map. That describes most killers, really.
0 -
I really like it! It should be this dark it would be pointless otherwise and also..we want a horror game in some sense at least.
0 -
So what, you'll just dc every time you go against Dredge?
Like, I do understand that the new nightfall can be a bit oppressive, but blind is just not true. And I am not sure if acting like a 12 year old about it will help your case.
2 -
They gone lern todaeh. LUL

"Your opinion does not change facts".
And who said anything about DCing? I said i will not play blind... So every time i go blind... i don't play. And i can see from games that i am not the only one... which means get ready for the influx of post on this forum. Very simple facts.
Anywho, last post. Perma Statement made.

Either you're rule breaking for leaving the game early on purpose or you're rule breaking for going AFK. Rule breaking is rule breaking.
2 -
He's been out for a few hours. Give a few days at the very least and get used to facing the ability before knee jerking about how it's so impossible to deal with.
1 -
Lmao afk, much better.
Also, i am praying you aren't saying that it's a fact that you go blind during nightrfall. That would be so stupid I wouldn't even know where to begin.
0 -
i think the problem is they combined the skybox-darken effect with a dark shrouding overlay. the Overlay makes things so much worse, especially with how narrow it is; were it a bit lighter and not as tight, it'd be much better.
1 -
'Overwhelming darkness' is his power.
0 -
anyone have a picture of what it looks like with filters?
0 -
not on pc for sure , because video filters exist , but am worried about console players not being able to see almost nothing on darker maps because BHVR still doesnt add a proper bright slider into the game.
3 -
Nobody has brought up the truly important question yet. With Nightfall as dark as it is will the Dredge still be able to see survivors teabagging in the exit gates?
0 -
I think the field of view can be slightly increased but I played once on Ormond against Dredge and think the new killer is super fun to go up against, I was on edge while doing gen during nightfall and then killer came busting out a locker, I jumped but thankfully it was on the other side of the wall from gen I was on, but I saw it through the window.
I'm OK with slightly increasing FOV but I'm also OK with it staying as is, it's super fun and survivors are generally always super comfortable and rarely scared, this killer adds fear to the game which is exactly what the boogieman should do, the dredge is based on boogieman.

What do you mean...I play on highest MMR and a full man swf with more than 20k hours died bc while nightfall to the turkey although I can draw every map with closed eyes. You can't see anything at all and I played it on console w/o filters...I am telling you...even the flashlight is consumed by this =). Anyway I know this killer will be nerfed to clown tier in the next month's bc in average win rate especially on survivor maps like ormond etc the dredg was better than nurses with 4k hours plus and even the best nurse player on EU server was laughing that this killer is getting better results than him. To be fair I played him on the PTB and he seemed to be a bit too strong and now they buff him to release and bring a power that kills every survivor counter (pallet/locker/hiding) especially on causal and mid/low tier.
Let's not talk about the new bugs...bc then I would write an essay.
And btw...did someone think MMR is a lie? BC my cat bought this killer and got 3 swfs in a row in the first 3 games and they all were like 4x 2500hours ++ with full meta so how is this when the queue is 1-2 minutes on survivor side and 2-5 seconds in the killer side.
To me MMR is a fairy tale that everyone want to believe...but I play on the top (assumed by 80-90% escape rate) [72% overall] and I can tell you there is no MMR system. Its the biggest lie I've ever witnessed on a video game or it's just absolutely not working at all and this is the reason why they hide a number. It is actually sad...
