What's the Problem with Trickster?
Not what others have said about him, what you honestly think is his problem. And if you don't have a problem with him, please explain.

He’s has little punishment for missing and feels annoying to play against as survivor since your main counterplay is just high wall loops. It leads to 1 sided chases where either the survivor loops for ages or the survivor dies with no way to stop it

Ok, against PC Trickster, because him is a meme killer with a controller. He is ridiculous on consoles.
2 -
Yeah like slinger or nurse controller makes him much worse to a point where he feels essentially useless
1 -
His design is flawed and un-original.
Why throw a million knives at a survivor when you can throw one well-shot hatchet, vomit stream, or chained bullet at them?
As a survivor, you have to use high walls and even then, he'll eventually injure/down you if he can get a knife or two with every corner.
Not fun for both sides.

Just to be devil's advocate, he has no slowdown or penalty for missing, so isn't he better than those other Killers?
0 -
It depends on the situation.
Killers say that he takes way too long to injure or down someone so that was what I was trying to point out.

I don't play him a ton, but one thing that's always bugged me a little about both Trickster and Huntress is the lack of any kind of crosshair. This is the only first person action game I can think of where you don't have some sort of indicator where you're currently aiming, it's a little annoying. I wish it had just a small dot or crosshair indicator.

I honestly think he ends chases extremely quickly, especially in the open. He can just keep throwing with no penalty. With Huntress, she has to wind up and Survivors hear it as a warning, and she slows down while aiming, so Survivors are able to more easily dodge her hatchet. Her hit boxes aren't nearly as bad as they used to be, so it's even easier to dodge them now. With Plague, she throws up a lot, but she doesn't instantly damage you just because she hit you, like Huntress. And her damage takes more time to inflict than Trickster's does, and in the meantime, a Survivor can hopefully get to a pallet, vault, or wall. Same thing with dodging Slinger. It's easier to dodge him than Trickster in the open.

He will end chases quickly IF survivors are that bad. As long as the survivors are decent, they'll stick to walls as much as possible which is his biggest weakness and currently the best way to hinder him.
A good survivor will only run in the open if they know the trickster mindgamed himself or occupied with something else.

The thing I don't like about him is that his power is very all or nothing in a map-dependent way. He murders the hell out of anyone caught out in the open, and low-wall loops are a win-win in his eyes. High wall loops, though? Trying to chase someone around shack, or a gym, or even a big round rock is agonizing as this guy. It feels like your ability to avoid it comes entirely down to terrain and structures, and your ability to catch people comes entirely down to terrain and structures. You can't juke a stream of knives the same way you can juke a single shot or hatchet, but on the flipside, those spots where you could line up a shot or hatchet for just the merest second around a corner don't get you nearly the value when it's just one or two knives instead of a health state. I'd love to be proven wrong on this, but without some of his funky purple addons, he has weirdly little room for skill expression.

I'd get better results just holding W and pressing M1 over throwing a million knives that will all miss because I suck at throwing knives. So when I play Trickster, I usually just go the M1 route unless there's a big empty space or something.

Hmmm. I don't think that's totally accurate. While running a jungle gym he can throw knives and injure you, hit by hit. Other Killers would have to be close to you to land a hit, or aim and guess very carefully like Pyramid Head. Trickster can injure you more easily, just by getting a glimpse of you, especially if he's smart with his knives. In my experience, Tricksters have done poorly more so when they mess up, not when the Survivors do.

Out of curiosity, have you ever thought about what should be done with him? A complete power rework or just some adjustments? And if you have thought about it, what were some of your ideas?

Are you on PC or console?

His biggest problem is tome 10, page 3 Main Attraction challenge. God I hated that one and got so much salt from survivors for playing scummy.
1 -
I can agree with that and probably the reason why survivors don't like facing him because it's usually a lose-lose situation.
Either way, I've never liked the direction they went with his power. An AOE effect or something to deal with music would've been a lot cooler and original.

He has a 1v1 that’s either super oppressive at some loops and worthless at others and is too forgiving for mistakes miss 1 knife? Don’t worry you have dozens more. Which is really tragic considering being a performer he could have many potential abilities that are much stronger, skillful, and enjoyable to face.

He's really good at getting damage states in deadzones.
I don't have an issue with that.
0 -
Yeah, I never understood why his power would be throwing knives. I remember from his lore he tortured people to get screams, but you can do that lots of different ways. Why throwing knives? His power seems like a parlor trick--it doesn't fit his potential. Anyway, thanks for the good chat!

PC. I'm just not good at aiming. But I mean, I hardly ever play Trickster so that's probably part of the problem. I'd get better if I played him more, but I don't care for it.

Throwing knives can be difficult on console
His 1V1 is insane at bad loops (for survivors)... but 4V1 is a bit terrible (IMO)
Also he's addon reliant... again in my opinion

I think you are the only one, so far, to not have an issue lol You're a unicorn! 🦄
But yes, his damage in dead zones is insanely strong.

I don’t play as Trickster when I play killer, but when I play against him as survivor I don’t mind at all. He feels pretty balanced to play against and has reasonable counterplay

First, sorry about your divorce from Diane. That was rough.
Second, do you like him? Are you excited to go against him?

I don't really know. I love the idea of a celebrity killer who's drunk on his own fame and power, but I don't like the way they designed his power in-game - throwing knives feels like it was glued slapdash alongside that concept and I would have rather seen him built around a different power that focused on his music or his narcissism and glamor. And removing the knives means designing an entirely new power, so I can't really speculate.
I can't think of a way to fix how his power currently works as a magnification of the strengths and weaknesses of the other ranged killers without turning him into another Huntress clone. Some people have suggested basekit trick blades in accordance with actually working with the Trickster theme, but while that does improve the cool and clever things you can do with his power, it also decreases the list of tiles you can use for shelter, and that's kind of a problem when positioning is an absolute necessity in order to live against this guy. He's balanced on a razor's edge of being unstoppable or garbage depending on where you are, and when you can load into something like Rotten Fields or something like RPD, that's kind of a mess.

Thanks - appreciate the support 😉
I wouldn’t say I get excited to go against Trickster, but there are plenty other killers I dislike way more (Cenobite, Hag, Nurse, Spirit, Legion)

Yeah I never understood why they chose that for his power. It felt like such a disconnect from him as a character and his potential. Honestly, if they wanted to rework him completely to have a totally different power, I'd be excited. I mean, they reworked Freddy, but I don't think there's enough of a demand for them to put the resources into doing it. Shame. I love him as a character. His voice actor, especially, did a great job. And his music is very unsettling (reminds me of Insidious). sigh
1 -
lol you're welcome, man.
I actually love going against Nurse and I like Spirit. Why don't you like them? Is it because of the god tier players? If so, I get it. There's not much you can do against them.

My biggest problem with "Dollar Store Dio Brando" was that despite his name being "The TRICKSTER": there is a lack of any real "TRICKS" with his power.
He's an Average height, 4.4 m/s speed, 24m TR, Ranged killer, of which only really one of these is of any real use (that being the height). His height helps with tall walls and structures giving some decent cover (TR and Stain not withstanding). Trying to land M1s is never really a good idea unless the chase started with less than 3 between the surv. Then we get to his power... knives. You need to throw 6 knives to deal 1 health state, with regression beginning after 15 seconds from the last blade landing. Not factoring in the slowdown from consecutive throwing: this ain't easy. So my problems are as follows (not factoring addons):
1- Landing enough knives requires minimal obstruction from the map, meaning large open spaces or long hallways with the occasional half-height loop. This is more of a map issue that extends to all range killers, but since you need more effort for TrickyBoi it feels a bit worse. 2- That 4.4 speed stat really hurts when you need to be somewhere fast, and if survs are smart enough to split up to other ends of large maps; well you'd better be efficient or else that'll be some serious progress lost. And should I mention that you're even slower when you have 0 knives? (I think this is a thing if I'm reading the power trivia right) 3- Your endgame activatable power: Main Event. It's nice that you keep throwing after hitting 0; but the fact that it lasts 10 seconds after needing 30 hits to prime AND has an activation window after priming is a joke. I do remember the window being expanded from I think 15 seconds, it'd be nicer to just hold it for when you need it. I can't begin to tell you how many times Main Event was ready to go but there was no one around or no clear line of sight.
So how would I fix this? Some tinkering and an overhaul. 1st is dropping the activation window for Main Event so that you can hold on it for when you need it most. 2nd would be giving a larger beginning pool of knives, 44 just feels too odd but 60 feels too much. So a good midway point I'd say is 50, since you might be using 10 knives on average per health state lost. 3rd would be to ditch the speed loss from having no knives because the only punishment a killer should have to deal with is from survs, not their own power. Now about that overhaul (which will be conveyed using keyboard controls as that's what I use, sorry controller users).
The Trickster would gain a secondary power that functions separately from knife throwing, and being a deceptive acrobat (because he's probably agile enough given his background). When you have 0 knives: you enter "Trickster Mode". Trickster Mode raises your speed to 4.6 but increases your TR to 32. Your M2 is now a "jumpdash" and has 3 total charges. While moving: you can press M2 to perform a jumpdash, which will propel you in whatever direction you are moving. Within the last few moments of a jumpdash: you can press M1 to finish out with an attack (not counted as a basic attack). There would be 1.8 second "landing" cooldown between jumpdashes, with it increasing to 3.6 seconds should you miss an attack. The distance would probably be the same as DH if not a little more with the speed of the jumpdash being about as much. Jumpdashing into a window will automatically vault it. Your alt power gets replaced with "Curtain Call". Curtain Call is charged by landing attacks while in Trickster Mode, needing a total of 10 to be primed. Holding CTRL for 3 seconds will activate Curtain Call for 20 seconds which: give you Undetectable, increases your movement speed to 4.8 m/s, grants unlimited jumpdashes, fast vaulting through windows with jumpdashes, and removing the landing cooldown and reducing the missed attack cooldown to 1.8 seconds. You can reload at lockers at any point while in Trickster Mode as normal which will save your Curtain Call progress for when you enter Trickster Mode again.
With all of this in mind, it's all still my thoughts and opinions. Some might disagree and some will probably think "you'd be giving Trickster too much", but I feel that all of this might make him more of a solid A and reduce his map dependency.

as mei console trickster play with it is the most fun because I and learned not to fail knives and I give all but even so the nesesita more speed is very slow especially when using its power and when playing find for the survis I feel that what they do not like is their aesthetics that is why they hate it most and because in the dead zone you have nothing to do like others killer since using its power in structures requires great skill and pressure and those who say that the problem is the amount of knives the most likely thing is that they never play with it since it has dispersion that even that you point to the center they never go in that direction and the knives are noticeable that many times they are missing in addition to that it was already nerfeado from 60 to 44 and that I am of console and almost does not fail knives

Camping, hallways, open stretches. He can deal damage faster than she can due to the lack of cooldown between throws and has team-killing ability she doesn't.
Around corners, though, he has only a fraction of her power.

dodging his knifes between each corner is part of the skill behind properly countering trickster. if anything his counter-play is based off empty all 44 of his knifes by any mean necessary. This logic also applies to deathslinger's single shot and huntress 5 hatchets.
I wouldn't say its super easy or anything, but the fact that his movement speed is 96% in throwing mode for ranged killer who is forced to throw knifes for extensive period of time or be 110% m1 is huge problem for his balance. He basically doesn't get to shoot his 44 knifes if the survivor is effective at utilizing Line of sight blockers. The few times he gets to shoot, the survivors can outplay it.
Because his chase under performs so heavily, many trickster players simply just hard-camp hooks and proxy camp 24/7 on every hook. He's not fun to play against as survivor purely because the killer player is not confident in winning chases from being underpowered. He really should have 110% m/s in throwing mode so that tricksters have more confidence in winning chases over just hard-camp hooks and looking for altruistic kills 24/7.
