Why crossprogression is such a big problem?

I just don't understand it. I am not a programmer or game Designer but...a company as big as Bhvr shouldn't have problems to hire enough people who can promgrame it.

So many other games have a crossprogression with a inbuild account system in there games. The thing is there is a Bhvr account for the crossprogression between stadia and steam (and the switch version in the next 20+ years).

Okay maybe the companies like Microsoft or Sony say they don't want a crossprogression because they would lose money...but...there is a really really simple solution. Just lock the paid content between the different Systems.

Just make it that If I bought Pig on Playstation I can't play with her on Xbox without buying her on that Plattform again. The Level of the killer and there inventory would be shared over the plattforms but not the characters.

And there are many other options and ideas like this...but slowly I feel like they just don't want to do it. We are waiting since over a year for the switch crossprogression so I think they have massive Problems figuring the System out with there Spaghetti Code.

If the Stranger Things chapter and cosmetics don't transfer, I riot.

Sorry, nothing really constructive to say. I'm impatiently waiting for Switch cross-progression myself.

It’s not a programming issue but mostly the platform holders.

and it’s also not only about paid content. They would still lose customers who would potentially stop paying their online subscription services and lose out on future purchases of customers that would switch platforms because they can keep their progress etc.

Because of the Fact that it sounds like a excuse because Nintendo said yes and they don't make progress with that crossprogression. Maybe Microsoft and Sony said no but I think they didn't really tried to convince them or to make a deal

I have to believe two of the many reasons for players wanting Cross Progression for DBD so badly is both the grind in case you would otherwise lose your progression, and the vast game performance difference between the consoles and PC.

So it's not really a case of many PC players wanting to move to a console to play DBD, but potentially a mass exodus from Xbox and PlayStation to PC that they fear. Particularly those like me on the older gen machines that likely still make up the majority of consolers.

Legality. It is an absolute legal nightmare to add it retrospectively, and depending on the deal people strike can cost an absolute fortune. Just look at Epic and Sony's deal regarding Fortnite, for example, where if someone had an account linked on both Xbox and PS4 Epic would have to pay Microsoft and Sony their full cut of money for any in-game purchases regardless of what platform they were bought on.

These deals are usually created very early on in conception within a game, when the platforms are still being decided, to allow for the company to either prepare or to announce it won't be happening. Adding it retrospectively needs you to jump through so many contracting loops (at least here in the UK) that it's not even funny

I want either cross progression or MnK support for consoles. Neither will ever happen but one can only dream

I believe this is a Microsoft and Sony problem more than technical problem.

On a sidenote, BHVR is not as big as you may think, its not a small company but its not a powerhouse in the videogame world like Rockstar, EA or Activision-Blizzard and even those cant force Microsoft and Sony to bend the knee.

Just get a pc next, anything that requires good aim requires a mouse.

A lot of AAA console games have M + K support anyway, and the RRP of a next-gen console is about the RRP of a graphics card

Agreed, but there are still alot more upsides to a pc, an easy one would be all those old games can still be played on pc, where as old console games for the most part cant be used on your new xbox or ps4 etc.

There are absolutely advantages, which is why I went for a PC over a console, but it's also far out of a lot of people's price ranges. Some people can't afford to splash out 1.5-2k on a pc when a console is 500 max, and paying for an online subscription and then, say, gamepass or PSNow is a lot more budgetable because it's just a little each month is easier to reason yourself into than, again, a lump sum of 2k.

Yes I always keep wondering how very small indie company's like Ghost Ship Games (deep rock galactic) got crossprogression, full m/K Support on Consoles but behavior can't make it happen since.. how long?

Like 6 years ago I saved up for a gaming pc. Not even top of the line in its day. In fact it was near to the cheapest gaming pc from where I bought it. All ive done in 6 years is add some ram and an external ssd. It still puts my consoles to shame and I've never had to mail it back to the manufacturer to get it repaired. Unlike some other platforms I can mention. These days the only reason I buy a console game is if it's exclusive or I plan to play that game with friends who don't have a pc. The thing I like about Microsoft is most games they let me install and play through my pc. When I saw gears 5 on my pc I uninstalled it from my xbox. The graphics look like crap on that thing now.

Who knows what contracts did they sign.

Maybe cross progression without paid chapters and cosmetics would be possible to do, but that's extra work to implement for BHVR.

I guess a lot of this is also just lazyness from BHVR, or that they can't justify doing this because it would not bring money to BHVR.

And 6 years ago is great. I'm talking about people trying to get PCs now, though, considering mass-inflation, a cost of living crisis, constant shortened supply and excess demand hiking up prices, scalping becoming more common than ever especially through the use of bots to resell for masses of profit, etc. I was lucky I could afford one back in 2020, before all this happened. Looking at the parts I have, it'd cost about 300 quid more to get it now, and that's just the parts (I got mine pre-built so it'd come with a warranty because I am not splashing out over 1.5k without some form of legal protection, absolutely not).

Sadly, PCs are still one large spend. Some people can't ration this, and will have to buy pre-built anyway because of a lack of technical knowledge, so might as well get a console that does much the same games-wise but you know it's a standard experience.

I'm all for investing into a PC if you can afford to- imo they're the best way to play games because of modding and customisable graphics settings and the fact that you have some slight control over your OS and what you do on it (as long as you don't get Windows 11, anyway). But I'm also aware that some people just can't get a PC for whatever reason, so saying "just get a PC" isn't as helpful as you'd think it is, particularly now-a-days. Console users should still be supported, and that includes with cross-progression.

My cousin is taking classes at MIT. For a long time he was using his work pc and he was falling behind. He had to buy a real pc so he could finish the assignments in a reasonable time. This was last Oct. Best buy was empty. Target was empty. Walmart was even empty, though I'd never buy anything nice from Walmart. He ended up having to buy a pc from Sam's club. I had no idea they sold pc. Since the shutdowns, parts are almost non existent. Inflation doesn't help either.
