I doubt we will get through the first two community challenges

I've played potentially about 15 or 20 games since the event has started, and hardly seen killers kicking generators, experienced significant increase in tunnelling.

I wish this community worked together on these challenges

It's especially funny, since they have access to the stats, so they could have literally broken it down to slightly above average performance.

With the challenge being at 5 mill as of typing this and being half a day since the event started. It's gonna be rather tight, but should be doable.

2 days at this rate for the current challenge. Can't really give an idea about the others. Figure that the devs planned this out to cut things as close as possible based by their data. Not exactly understanding the numbers though. 30 mil skill checks or gen kicks is rather high. But 250 mil seconds of chases isn't really all that much when spread over the entire player base. 5 mil pallets is also rather low when there's so many of those used per game. 7.5 mil hooks on the final hand is back to being on the high side considering there's a MAX of 23 hooks/unhooks per game played.

If I had to guess the devs planned this out for all 4 community challenges to be finished a little before the 2nd page unlocks in 6 days. If anything the devs can also likely cheat the numbers if need be.

You don't have to kick gens. I always use eruption, surge and pain resonance for challenges like this because they automatically damage gens.

But I do agree that we won't finish this challenge.

Yes i think that's the problem tbh! Like I'm not going to select it and play like 10 games to kick 40 generators (and i am definitely not going to farm) and only get 3rift fragments and 15k BPs for it... I'm late on the rift so I'm going to prioritze quick or rewarding challenges over the community ones, i'm not going to touch them until i've finished the solo challenges from the event tome tbh.

At the current rate of gain, it's impossible. This feels like we've been deliberately set up to fail, as you can't progress it unless you have it selected, meaning you can't do any other challenges in the meantime.

I wonder if the devs are having a little joke at our expense.

I only play killer and I'm almost at 20 games and still haven't completed my personal goal. The thing is, I am a Pop Goes the Weasel and Call of Brine gamer. 40 gens per person is just too much considering that kicking gens isn't that efficient most of the times.

Perks that automatically damage gens like ruin, pain res, jolt, etc work for that challenge and that's how I got it done in my end... so even if they are not actively kicking the gens they should still be getting the challenge done depending on their build... also, the skill checks from the survivor end of the challenge will likely help a lot. Besides, a lot of the more casual players will likely be playing mostly over the weekend, so the challenge should get rushed at that time

I just equipped Call of Brine when I played last night. Boom, a reason to kick gens. 🙂

It's just the second day of the event! I would think many like me are still working through the normal event tome, so expect the numbers to rise drastically when there's nothing else to select.

Also, I highly doubt BHVR will go like "Oh, you did not finish the community challenge? Too bad, no cosmetics for you all!". If it's emminent that the goal cannot be reached, they will tone the numbers down. The cosmetics were already created, there's no point in not releasing them.

They've already said that if we don't complete the challenges, they simply won't give out the rewards.

My first hame with that challenge selected I got 4 gen kicks then I opted for the others challenges but had built at least one killer was that challenge in mind to finish it today.

I know they Dev's had community challenges before but I think 30mil gen breaks/skill checks is overdoing it since it has to be actively chosen.

If every active player right now contributes their allotted 40... that's still only around 3-4million. The challenge is for 30 million.

The target is way off, everyone needs to kick around 400 gens to complete this.

Now maybe their stats say the average killer kicks 400 gens a week or something, which is where they got the 30 million figure from. Unfortunately without having the challenge selected for an entire week that's not going to happen.

They'll either come out and say they ######### up, reducing it to 10mil or something (so that everyone only needs to contribute about 100-150. Or They'll fudge the numbers and say "well done guys ypu collectively acheived 500 million which isn't even possible you're so awesome!"

  • Hex_Ignored
    Hex_Ignored Member Posts: 1,953

Yeah, we were set up to fail. Or they accidentally added one 0 too many and can't be bothered to change it.

  • GodDamn_Angela
    GodDamn_Angela Member Posts: 2,213

So, if I was reading the challenge correctly everyone can only do a max of 40 actions for it right? Skill Checks is obviously the easier way to do this as kicking gens is next to useless and most gens get done before you have time to kick them anyway.

40 is about 0.000133% of 30mil. That's 750,000 players needing to do the challenge.

I feel the "Your Contribution: 0/40" has to be misleading because this is outrageous and honestly, if true, impossible.

I'm guessing 40 is the minimum expected, so we're supposed to aim for more than that. Once averaged out, the average contribution is expected to be 400. But that's quite a range to play with, and expect over half the players to exceed 400 to account for those that just hit 40.

They should have tuned it to an average of 75, with a minimum of 50, or something like that. Which would be a target of 5 mil, basically where we are now last I checked. Considering there's going to be 8 of these challenges, one per day isn't unreasonable.

I feel everyone is overreacting to a rift challenge that actually is challenging. If you think personally kicking 400 gens is ridiculous, play survivor. Hitting skill checks is much more obtainable than kicking generators.

I imagine people aren't selecting this challenge much right now as they are working through the lower portion of the rift. Once all those challenges are done, there will be people who just leave the challenge on as they play normally to continue to contribute, even past their personal contribution amount.

As of right now, we are at 6,200,967 of 30,000,000 which is just over 20% of the way there less than 24 hours in to the opening of the rift. We still have the first weekend of the anniversary event to get through.

There are 6 days until the next level of the rift is released and they have to time these out. If we aren't done or almost done with it by the end of the weekend, I would be much more concerned. Looking at the next community goals (chasing/getting chased, dropping/breaking pallets, hooking/unhooking), they seem even easier (at least from the killer perspective).

  • tippy2k2
    tippy2k2 Member Posts: 5,208

It's still day 1 people (or at least not 24 hours).

I imagine the vast majority of the playerbase is still doing their own individual totem challenges and even now, there's still a decent chunk taken out of the community challenge.

I don't get why there is such a panic that these are not doable...

  • Chocolate_Cosmos
    Chocolate_Cosmos Member Posts: 5,735

I am usualy not kicking gens since I don't play any kicking gen motivated perk. I only kick when there is nothing better to do or for extra +100 points if I downed someone next to a gen or something... aka very rare. Kicking gen is usualy waste of time unless you run some good perks around it.

  • hex_uwu
    hex_uwu Member Posts: 201

Everyone here complaining about how long it's taking them to kick gens meanwhile 40 skillchecks is doable in a 1-3 games...

I did the community challenge first and it literally only took me a couple of matches. While I'm waiting for everyone else to catch up I'm doing the survivor and killer personal challenges.

I understand it's frustrating but they give you the option of doing it as killer or survivor. Pick the easier role and do that. With the chases community challenge I'll probably play killer because chasing is the primary objective for that role, whereas I'm not guaranteed long chases as survivor.

I kick gens a fair bit. I like Surveillance yo. It's not the best compared to say Pop+Pain resonance but it could be that might be what BHVR is subtly looking for. How often people bother to kick generators.

  • Xendritch
    Xendritch Member Posts: 1,842

I feel like chase one will go much faster but the skill check/kick one is a nightmare when skill checks are random and kicking can be suboptimal a lot of the time.

Of course they would say something like this now. But that does not mean that it comes this way.

Edit: You can bet that the complaints will be massive if the community goal is not reachable. I don't believe that BHVR wouldn't move in that regard.

For real. I guess I will be doing my part and not doing any other challenges till this is done ;)

While we are at it, can we buff gen kicking? Like give it an immediate 1% regression and in order to stop it regressing, survivors need to be on the gen for 3s consecutively? The tap gen mid chase is really aggrevating and akin to a slap to the face.

  • bm33
    bm33 Member Posts: 8,273

Their stats probably show the challenge is doable, problem is people have to select it and keep it selected to complete it which is something they probably overlooked when setting it up. If it was counting contributions without needing to be selected like most games do when it comes to community challenges then we would probably be much further along.

  • Seraphor
    Seraphor Member Posts: 9,429

That's not the problem. The problem is that 40 is the minimum required, not the goal.

Yet if everyone only did their own 40, there wouldn't be enough to complete the community challenge.

With an average of 100,000 active players, everyone doing 40 only gets us to 4 million.

Everyone needs to do around 300-400 on average, which means we need around a third to a half of the playerbase to do around 700 to compensate for those only doing 40.

Eh, I think the only issue is that you have to pick the challenge to contribute instead of it being kept track of in the background. Ive already done all the event challenges and moved back to the rift, I use these events to speed level. Last year I got all Survivor oerks on my Kate, this year I wanna finisg getting all Killer perks on Wraith and Dredge and than move on to Clown and Leatherface

I didn’t realize I needed to select it. Probably more brain-deads like me, just watching the bar go up and thinking we’re ‘doing a good job here’ lol.

I’ll go select it now :/

I think this "Community" event needs to be rethought in the future. I don't like that my ability to get something will depend on whether or not everyone else decides to complete their share. I don't see the first challenge being completed anytime soon simply because those numbers are outrageously high...

  • StarLost
    StarLost Member Posts: 8,077

Not to mention that the base is likely to peak this weekend, then fall off over next week. At my current guess, we're going to max out somewhere halfway through the final challenge of page one, possibly less if people leave faster.

I...just don't think that two pages of this is possible, and I suspect that the only reward here is going to be that Dredge skin from page 1.

    If that.

  • SleepyWillo
    SleepyWillo Member Posts: 2,197

So you want to remove the "Community" aspect form the "Community Challenge"?

  • bm33
    bm33 Member Posts: 8,273

Mandy just confirmed on another post that you can't go past the max you can put in. So pretty much not only need all those players to play but also select the community challenge over individual challenges. Anyone that doesn't have Haddie/Dredge probably won't care to select challenge that gives them no BP for completing.

  • Araphex
    Araphex Member Posts: 696

It should just be damaging gens by any means. I hate kicking gens when playing killer and prefer other perks that automatically damage them like Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance. The fact that survivors can stop gen regression in less than a second compared to how long it takes to kick a gen is just atrocious.

Thats a whole different story. Changing a killers power has balancing implications and requires implementation work. That takes time, even if the developers weren't as restrained with changes as BHVR is.

It's on far different level of complexity then just droping / reducing the community goal and giving the players the cosmetic"for free", bc it is MEANT to given out for free.

  • Hex_Llama
    Hex_Llama Member Posts: 1,846

The point of a community challenge is to feel good when everyone contributes toward the same goal -- if it weren't dependent on other people, it wouldn't be "community" -- it would just be a personal challenge.

In this case, I also think they're trying to pace it so that a handful of the most active players can't just buzz through the challenge alone in the first few hours, which also makes sense to me.

I'm sure it'll work out okay.
