Deathslinger is depressing.

I played a couple of Deathslinger games yesterday evening. I had played some Survivor games with a friend and decided to let the evening ring out by trying the "new" Deathslinger out myself.

I went in with the full knowledge of what they did to him and I went in expecting to lose my matches with a "I don't care, lets just see how bad it is and get some BP" mindset - yet somehow BHVR still managed to disappoint me.

Overall I played him for only 3 matches (the first one being a farming game because two Survivors immediately ragequit uppon hearing a gunshot - I'll come back to that point in a future post about this) and was already done with DbD, quitting the game out of pure frustration. Just 3 games of Deathslinger and I was already in the mood of uninstalling the game again.

Both the games I got to play seriously I went up against Survivors who played significantly worse than I did and yet in both games combined I merely managed to get a single kill.

This Killer is just depressingly bad now. And he is not even fun to play like he used to either.

Every single mid- to long range shot that I hit the only thought that crossed my mind was "you could have dodged that.", when previously I would have thought something along the lines of "what a nice shot!". And even on short range the only consistent way of landing a shot was by zoning them away from a pallet / window by preaiming it and them still trying to run through. Trickshots are basically impossible, Cornershots only work on very specific structures anymore and my ability to quickly punish small mistakes made by the Survivors is also gone. Everything that made this Killer skillfull, unique, fun and made me want to play and improve more with him is gone now, EVERYTHING. You took it all!

This Killer has absolutely nothing in common with the character I fell in love with when the Chains of Hate DLC released anymore. Everything I used to love about him is gone now and all thats left is a slow zoning Killer who you just hold W against, he is but a shadow of his former self.

Oh and BHVR - I love the skin you just released for him.

Had you not gutted this character into the absolutely abysmal state that he is in right now I would have immediately bought it. But I will continue to not purchase anything related to this character for as long as he is in the state he is in right now.

Revert the Slinger changes.

Honestly, I don't think he needed that either.

Getting shot from outside the TR was something the Killer had very little influence over and if it did happen it was a direct result of a misplay from the Survivor side (starts with simple things like not seeing the tall cowboy pointing his gun at you in the distance or hearing the loud bell ring in your ears and went all the way to not having good positioning / Killer tracking).

Not to mention that, as you mentioned yourself, the Killer had to bring Monitor & Abuse AND a tracking Perk that would allow them to locate the Survivors from far away (e.g. A Nurses Calling) just to make this a possibility. So not only was it inconsistent and could be accounted for (and therefore avoided) by Survivors, but it also had a high price for the Killer to pay.

He was in such a good balance spot - but as we all know, balanced = boring, so they gutted him.

The main issue to me was MaA combined with his naturally quiet TR startup. Add that with his old quickscope and it could get pretty annoying. Other than that he was actually really balanced imo (except his awful add ons for the most part)

Deathslinger just got Legion'ed. Guess we have to wait for 2+ years for him to get a proper update.

I am having a good time with him using Nurses and SBFL. He is one of the best at interrupting healing.

Yeah I guess the rather silent TR startup is a fair critisism - I wouldn't have minded them increasing the volume on that a bit (especially for non headphone users I can see this being an issue)

And honestly, I would even go as far as to call him one of the most well balanced Killers in the whole game. He used to be the only character I looked at and thought he needed neither nerfs nor buffs whatsoever (excluding Add Ons - as you said those were rather bad), which made the nerf he received feel so much more like a slap in the face.

I agree, he did not deserve changes. M&A was not generator defense perk. Nurse calling wasn't even that good for him because he doesn't cone the map very well due to his 110% m/s.

Deathslinger just needs revert. He got legion-treatment from may 2018. Given that it took 3 years for bvhr to improve legion(who still isn't that great but better than before), 3 years for deathslinger to get his revert is looking at 2024 DBD, so comeback around that time to see deathslinger.

Yeah to me he almost seemed like a balanced character. He had little counterplay in chase but was actually punished heavily for missing (unlike nurse or spirit) and really struggled with map control. And compared to trickster he felt more satisfying to counter and play as imo

I really had no issue with him which is saying something when I hate basically all mid range anti loop killers like artist, PH and nemmy

Don´t play him but the mask looks great.

Yeah he joined a bunch of weak and bad killers.

He was never too strong to begin though, had plenty of counter play and reads you could do but survivors didnt like you had to guess/read shots (even though that's what most killers have to do at loops anyway)

Before the nerf i had a good time dealing with him as survivor, the salty comolains about him before the nerf where not needed, but unfortunately at the end the salty survivors win. His terror radius and power were perfectly fine before, his combo with monitor was just synergy just like every killer can use perks ti synergize with their power; but no, is not allowed, those who whine are the right ones, even though he was still not strong before

Yeah i feel that.Playing him feels awful and clunky right now.

Like theres 0 reason to play him instead of Huntress or Trickster other than liking the character or shooting at survivors

Sadly he is gutted by the devs along with the Billy and Freddy.

All they had to do was bake his low terror radius into a part of his kit with some kind of limitation that said his terror radius, when active, cannot be less than X meters.

    Done.

Now unless he's using insidious or some other form of stealth activation perk, you at least will have an idea when he's coming.

Personally, I also think Monitor & Abuse could've been reworked to increase/reduce the base terror radius by 25% instead of the fixed 8m. Then all 32m Killers retain the 8m reduction and Deathslinger, along with other 24m, only get 6m reduction which leaves him at 18m which is exactly the range of the harpoon.
