So what am I meant to do?
So am I just meant to get a 2k on purpose when I know I could get a 3k or a 4k on blight JUST so I can not have my mmr randomly spike to amazing players that will loop me for 2 minutes in one area while im trying to learn the killer orrrr what?
Like holy hell this is actually REALLY bad. The fact that as a player of this game, I'm not allowed to go out and learn new characters because I get literally punished for doing so. Wild.

When you face a SWF, guess which MMR is actually matched with you? The lowest. So you can have 3 players with insanely high MMR, carrying a newb, and if youre in that newb's MMR range, you are going to be stuck with that lobby unless you dodge it.
How do I know this? After playing this game a ######### ton and watching Streamers(Fog Whisperers and the like), its brutally clear that the MMR system is completely broken when it comes to SWFs.

Hmm.
Okay, a few things.
- MMR does not rise or fall insanely fast unless you're getting 4ks or 0ks frequently.
- Getting a 2k, from what I understand, isn't much different to getting a 3k.
- A 0k tanks your MMR quite hard.
- A 4k raises your MMR quite hard.
- The first kill is worth more than the second and third.
- If you start a new killer, it pegs it at the average MMR of all your killers.
- Unless it's Nurse or something, a lot of basic killer skills are interchangeable - locating, chasing and downing. You'll do fine with your new killer, and if you lose a few games here and there, there's no harm.
That's incorrect. I'd have to dig up the QnA, but a SWF is matched with a killer with an aggregate MMR of the group.
The really bizarre games tend to be caused by backfill - a killer sees an obvious SWF, dodges the lobby and the system grabs the next available killer. I've started dodging any lobby that has multiple survivors readied up when I join, as these matches tend to be chaos.

Assuming mmr does something and matchmaking isnt completely random? Probably yes, do that lol

Pretty much, the SBMM is incredibly bonkers, players have to balance their own games so to speak. If you equip meme builds and don't sweat, you'll eventually derank into a comfortable range.

Dig up the QnA, everyone says it's the average but no-one can show me where it was stated.

The MMR system is broken regardless of SWF or not. It heavily favors lower queue times over fair matchmaking and I think backfill lobby’s still get high priority completely disregarding the mmr scores.

No no no, surely swf can't be the problem here.

Hook them all twice and mess around or afk right after, is the only way to learn a new killer

It wasn’t a Q&A but if I remember right either Mandy or Peanits mentioned it in a follow-up post on the forums answering a question about how matchmaking handles swfs. (My Google-Fu isn’t strong enough to look it up at the moment though.)

Not perfect =/= broken.
Backfill is the only enormous remaining issue, and if you don't want to take the chance of a backfilled lobby, just dodge.

There is more stuff wrong with MMR than just backfill lobbies. Only considering kills/escapes doesn’t work as a way to measure skill. There isn’t a perfect way obviously, but MMR needs more improvements than just fixing the backfill problem.

It could be a bit more nuanced, but people misunderstand how it works.
Yes, you'll get matches where you lead the killer on a chase for 5 gens and then die, while the Claudette who hid for most of the game got away and her MMR will rise while yours falls. However, over time - if you are that skilled, you'll escape more on average and she won't, and you'll find your correct spots.
Kills for killers I'm totally fine with. I can't see how that could be more nuanced without causing killer MMRs to inflate.
Survivors...yeah, it's tricky.

This is what typically bites me in the arse. Due to my work shift I mostly play late at night, between 11pm-6am EST. When an event isn't going on, it means every time I queue I sit waiting for the max 5mins, then get thrown in with whatever regardless of MMR, just because I hit the 5min wall. Although MMR does come into play at as _starting point_, based on BHVR's explanation of the queue timer, the stretched out spectrum of MMR in both directions (high/low) that it has to open up to try to find me a lobby always results in a crazy trial.
As a survivor it seems to favor the low end of MMR, so more often than not I get stuck in a potato group vs an at least decent killer. As a killer it seems to favor the high end of MMR, so I typically go up against SWFs and higher skilled solo players. I do get some balanced trials in here and there, but they're far more of the exception than the rule.
As a result when playing killer, if the group is very difficult, I usually have to prey on the weakest survivor repeatedly to get a kill in and slow the group down, which I'd really rather not. If the group is really out of my MMR range (usually a particularly hardcore sweaty SWF), I try to work with some of them to trade off. It doesn't always work, but I've been surprised at times at the number of SWFs that go from troll/tbag/flashlight nazi to friendly. I chalk it up to them really wanting a more fun trial too.
There's not a lot of options on the survivor end when you get dropped in with 3 "I can't believe you can dress yourself" players and even just an average killer, with the trial usually resulting in a wipe with 4-5 gens still up. In those, while the potatoes are exchanging hooks or being camped, I'll farm some BPs off of totems/chests/solo-able tome entries (like glyphs), maybe knock out 1-2 gens and take some protection hits, try to heal someone that's constantly running away from me, then look forward to the next trial where hopefully things are better (but will probably just be more of the same).
It really makes me wish that there were alternative bot trials/players that you can be shuffled into or supplemented with (as both survivor/killer) when there's no players in your extended MMR range available at the time. It would really be a wonderful solution to both queue times and being saddled with too high/low MMR players. Even if it required a BP hit, I'd take it in a heartbeat. If I'm having fun I won't mind less reward, and would easily be more inclined to play more trials and make up BPs over time vs putting up with hell trials back to back while trying to eek out decent BPs.

They'll add bots to custom matches. So you can wait a little for that (they said about winter or so, so it's not that bad) and you'll be able to train your killer before the real game.
