What Is The Point In Lightburn?
Lightburning allows you to disable certain killers of their abilities.
With killers like Nurse and Artist, being able to disable their abilities with a flashlight seems like a weird but good gameplay mechanic, both can are insanely strong when used properly.
The main question is focused around Wraith.
He has been in the game for a really long time, and even when he was first added, he was a really weak killer, and still is regarded to be quite weak. Lightburning Wraith stuns him temporarily. Back when he was first added, the only way to suppress the killer's heartbeat was Insidious, which required the killer to stand still for it. Lightburning was added to Wraith to balance him out back in 2016 since he could readily go Undetectable whenever he felt like. It's 2022. We have tons of perks that apply status effects creating stealth to where almost any killer nowadays can be a stealth killer if they wanted to be, and Lightburn on Wraith feels like an outdated mechanic just from that alone.

I've always liked Lightburn, it incentivises newer Wraiths to play sneaky and go for weird angles instead of running full tilt at someone while ringing their bell.

Whilst I don't disagree that it's probably a bit of a leftover mechanic to a weaker killer that doesn't necessarily need it , I don't mind it being in the game still. Flashlights having more variety in use than flashlight blinds and flashlight saves is a good thing, and it's not difficult to avoid a flashlight as a Wraith if a survivor is trying to burn you out of stealth now that his base speed cloaked is quicker.

So I can flashbang the Wraith whenever he comes to my gen hehe

Honestly lightburn seems like a legacy mechanic that should be retired at this point. It pretty much only affects Wraith since so few people know how to reliably interfere with Nurse using it.

I dont mind Lightburn being a mechanic, on paper it's a really good idea, again, I dont mind it on stronger killers, hell, if they added more unique interactions with other killers I wouldnt be too upset. The issue is that Wraith is already a pretty weak killer and Lightburn feels unnecessary on him. I dont have an issue with Lightburn as a mechanic as a whole, just specifically on Wraith.

It's an outdated mechanic but the devs don't care enough to address it. They have other priorities. Simple as that.
