Basement trappers are getting a buff with the next patch (along with camping in general)
If you've ever played against a basement Trapper you know how boring, tedious and frustrating it is when you are hooked in the basement or are trying to get the save. Well, it's about to be buffed. Next patch:
- You won't be able to DH through traps.
- Each generator will take +10 seconds longer.
- Monstrous shrine will be buffed meaning basement trappers can use hooks in the basement for Pain Resonance and survivors could die 20% faster with some nifty proxy camping.
Now imagine Trappers using Agitation, Iron Grasp/Deadlock, Monstrous Shrine, Pain Resonance. With bloody coil addon (injures you upon disarming). Now imagine a teammate is hooked in shack basement. Your solo queue, there is no coordination between survivors. Gens are taking longer, teammates are dying faster and there is no chance anyone is getting out the basement without DS.
Awful, right?
TLDR; The next patch buffs camping, not good.
Extra rambling:
Even if you somehow disarm a trap and get the unhook without being killed... by the time you're back up the basement stairs the trapper would have already reset his traps. Now there's NO possible escape because of the DH nerf. You're dead and so is the unhooked survivor unless they have Decisive Strike.
The only thing the Trapper needs to do is get one early(ISH) down somewhat close to the basement and camp from there.

you're welcome

I mean dh-ing over a trap should have never been a thing to begin with
31 -
You shouldn't have been able to DH through traps in the first place, it was dumb. You get to go thru the traps meanwhile trapper can't, he then has to waste time either picking up the trap to which he now has to place back all over again, or have to go all the way around whatever loop you've just DH'd through to get to you without setting off his own trap.
Hell, if the trap is in a one way place he literally HAS to pick it up and now again, he to place it all over again.

If 24 meters away is your idea of proxy camping, then yes Basement Trapper is completely buffed and so are camping Killers in general
7 -
All the trapper has to do is sit 24 meters away (if he wants to), which is not far (as demonstrated by devour hope). If anyone disarms a trap they'll be injured and is an early warning sign for the trapper if they didn't already see them. Now, they run down and unhook. Whilst they're doing so the trapper resets the trap. Both survivors are now dead unless the unhooked one has DS.
The point is this camping playstyle is being buffed, regardless of whether you agreed with DHing through traps. Also to make it clear: I'm not suggesting that you should still be able to DH through traps.
Also it's not exclusive to Trapper. Nurses can use range and camp with Monstrous Shrine + MYC, Resonance, Agi/Deadlock. Hag with MYC, Mint Rag (TP to any trap), Monstrous Shrine etc.
Essentially, camping builds in general are buffed which I don't think is a good thing.

I'm a solo survivor, and I'm actually willing to let this one slide as I don't think Trapper is a very strong killer. I avoid basement when against him as is, because that's where he is strongest, and I've never used DS or DH (lie, I used it once for a tome challenge that required it) anyway. I feel like a buff to Trapper is much needed.

That's the biggest problem with the upcoming patch. It actually just buffs camping. Instead it should be nerfed, and noticeably so.
I can only pray that when the patch goes live, they also increase the hook phase duration of survivors from 60 to 80 seconds. That would actually nerf camping properly. And if not by then, then hopefully shortly after with a hotfix. I still want to play survivor without having to fear that a killer can just resort to a cheap tactic and be almost guaranteed a win with no effort, and I also still want to play killer without long queue times.
I feel like the killer queue times have already increased slightly since a few days.

Trapper needs to start with 3 traps in hand and either reload them via lockers or he can summon one trap every 30s to his hand by locking at the trap and pressing ability button. This would help him so much!
2 -
Making basement stronger was a good move imo.
7 -
Are basement trappers common enough to warrant complaining about?
5 -
Genuinely nothing in the patch made camping easier. If anything it's harder now to camp and tunnel.
Survivors have basekit BT, Off The Record change which will literally make it a better version of current DS. The ONLY thing that makes camping SLIGHTLY better is the successful hit cooldown reduction... that's it.
1 -
I am fine if people play trapper and do this build. I have not seen trapper once this event and I've played serveral hours each day.
2 -
more like "fixed" tbh
1 -
Complaining about Trapper.
kek.
6 -
When there is Bubba in this game, you are worried about basement Trapper? LOL
2 -
And you're worried about Bubba when ranged nurse is in the game 🙃🤷♂️ ?
Complaining about already oppressive camping strategies being buffed, yes.
2 -
If trapper somehow manages to down closer to basement, he deserves to be oppressive, and pretty much it's on survivor as they can always choose where to down.
3 -
Oppressive camping strats counted COMPLETELY by map awareness, knowing where basement is, and not going down near basement.
Complaining about the single weakest killer in the game ain't it, chief.
2 -
TACTIAL INFORMATION™
don't get caught close to the basement 😉

This right here! They're doing more to address tunneling which is really sad since the main issue is camping.
Camping is a hopeless situation for survivor.
Tunneling is actually a risk a killer takes because if they can't down the person they are tunneling then they are wasting a lot of time. That and tunneling has more things you can combat it with (BT, DS etc).
Heck, buff Kinship somehow. ANYTHING would be better than what we have now. We need SOMETHING to be able to combat camping with other than "do gens faster lol" because that's not really a good solution.

I don't think so...I never knew it was a thing tbh....Trapper is just so ummm useful....*coughs up a lung*....ahhh ouch...I knew I shouldn't of tried saying that. Trapper is weak and he's the Poster Boi for DbD
0 -
Devs: we are addressing camping and tunneling, which we know are not fun. To do this, you get 5 seconds off hook to get to a pallet or window and hope your teammates is running BT but not too many of them or we will have to gut this perk in the future. We also disabled DS after the gens are done and reduced the stun to 3 seconds so killers won't fear tunneling a survivor anymore!
I get that this is a patch meant to address many issues with killer, and it should. That should be the priority. But it seems, rather than rewarding killers for playing well, they just make it easier to get kills, while only making it slightly easier to get individual hooks. The second part is fine. Holding w needed a major nerf. The first part is a problem, though. I don't think it's good for the health of the game. Killers need to benefit more from allowing an unhook and chasing a different survivor, and less from killing someone ASAP

This is too hard for survivors to understand.
2 -
Complaining about one of the weakest killers in the game, who still has to be lucky enough to down you around the basement in the first place. Which will probably just give him a 1k. Unnecessary complaining.
2 -
As Trapper main, he's definitely need buffed, but more on QoL that he's can be more fun to play against, not buffing camping.
Promote Camping is also promote Gen rush, which both are the core problems of this game
0 -
Increasing threat of basement is certainly a fun aspect as it'll affect tactical decision.
2 -
Oh no, not the trapper
1 -
Until Trapper has Agitation to bring survivor to basement from half the map.
Im not going to throw myself to basement through 4-5 bear traps down there and join in the basement with teammate. I will just do gen. The same as I see Bubba standing at hook with my Kindred.
0 -
if you go in the shack and lose the chase against him you deserve the basement, period... don't go there if you want to avoid to be camped to death (same when you are aganist a leatherface, stay away from that place)
1 -
I mean with trappers and bubbas the first thing you do is to avoid going near the basement when chased.
Also trapper boy is already weak enough why complain about him? Poor thing has to take 2-3 gens just to set up his traps.
1 -
If he specialize perks to bring people into basement, then he deserves to secure that.
And it's not like you'll get to basement every time anyway, play extra carefully.
1 -
Here we are: S-Tier Trapper
Game over 😅
1 -
With that logic no killer would receive buff to their basekit and survivors would never get a nerf, since it will eventually atleast benefit a specific killer, even if your complains are nonsensical

How often do you run into a basement trapper or a hag? Monsterious shrine only works if they are further than 24 meters from the basement or hooks.
Best thing to do in this situation is to disarm the trap and hide in a locker or blend in a corner until trapper leaves after resetting the trap. If he wants the value of shrine they'll leave FAST. This is when you wait for a few seconds until no heart beat. You unhook the survior and let them undo a bloody coil trap especially if you brought the buffed borrowed time. By the time the trap is disarmed and can escape.
Another version for the outcome is to disarm a trap while someone goes through which with a few pointing at the trap will tell a solo teammate the plan. Start the disarm from the side so a survivor can pass through and go for the save. Disarm after the unhook so the trapper has less time to get close.
If they are straight up sticking to shack write off the match and move to the next one either through death or hatch.
Also dead hard deserved to die. ;)

for real. Can't wait to try this.
1 -
Neither should hook grabbing, using abilities near hooked survivors and/or abilities that make it extremely easy to camp or tunnel. But hey, Nurse still gets buffed and Bubba's anti-camping measures are laughable.
0 -
*Bubba smiles and nods with approval.

People who are injured and juking a trapper in the near of the basement deserves a special treatment. Pain Hook Resonance btw wont help that much after the rework.
0 -
Anything with MYC or Devour is not a camping build.
If a killer can use these perks and still make it back to the hook quickly, that is simply the killer utilising their power efficiently. To say killers shouldn't be able to do this is to say killers shouldn't be able to use their power. Hag would be a slow M1 killer.
They did not prevent the unhook, you safely rescued your team mate, thus no camping was involved.
But being able to rescue your team mate does not entitle you to be safe as well, a rescue is an inherently risky move.
Ultimately a hook trade is a positive result for the survivors. A survivor who may have only had seconds left until they died, is now replaced by a survivor with up to 2 minutes of time to spare, taking pressure off the team as a whole.

You can still tell your friends on Discord where the Killer is, and where the traps are. They can remove them for you.
As for the save, don't go to the basement.
In short, git gud. You are complaining about the easiest Killer by far. A slow and clunky M1 Killer that can't but loop and eat pallets.
I would like to see *YOU* playing Trapper.

am i surprised that bringing awareness to a crappy playstyle being buffed is met with 'lol trapper op just dont die' replies? not at all
never change dbd forum users
3 -
Well, It's not exactly 24 meters because it's 24 meters from the hook and with the basement, some of that distance is in depth. Basement depth can sometimes vary, and I'm not certain what the typical basement depth is, I think it's something between 8-16 meters, though. So, you can be something like 18-22 meters away from the point above the hook in shack. Depending on what that distance is depending on how deep the basement is.

Came here to type this same thing

If you're worried about getting basement trapper'd, dont go down near shack, just run away, and let your team do gens if trapper does camp
0 -
Havent seen one since 2017
0 -
Distances aren't calculated in 3 dimensions. They're only calculated linearly, making every range or radial effect based on a cylindrical area.
So no matter what the elevation, could be top floor of RPD, they still need to be at least 24m away from the map position of the hooked survivor.
0 -
I don’t think the basement in general needs to be stronger, Monstrous Shrine though definitely needed a rework, it was one of the most useless perks in the game.
0 -
Yeah,I dont really like the fact there's still no real counter againts camping.
Someone suggested to remove the hook timer so camping will become completely useless.
Except the Bubbas and 1 hit killers that dont care about anything else but getting 1 kill.

Dead hard over a trap was broken, good riddance.
