Community Outfits pattern
So, the community contest winners just got announced and.... the 4th female survivor outfit in a row, and if you didn't know it, it's the 4th community contest.
Killers got a nice ration of 2 males and 2 females that got skins (Clown, Legion - Plague, Artist)
While survivors have been female, after female, after female and, yet again, after female. Is there a reason for that?
Don't get me wrong, I love the community skins we got for the survivors and every concept, with the exception of Claudette a bit since I think it would have fit someone like Nea more... but no males, at all?
Females get played more often but I'm pretty sure there's some popular male ones that could get a nice community skin?

Because most of people are playing female survivors? And plus it depends on which cosmetics sent.
Maybe most of cosmetics were for female survivors and male survivor cosmetics were not that good?

I just want to say that I’m a dude. Females are better than males. I think most people rather play as a female than a male
6 -
I don't know why they don't just chose 1 female and 1 male survivor winner...
13 -
True, they don't make good male skins so I would only trust the community to do it.
1 -
I want someone to make an outfit for Jeff ffs
9 -
I only play female survivors so its fine by me
2 -
I will play till year 9 if it means jake gets a community cosmetic
6 -
We already got our yearly cosmetic remember?
3 -
I really feel that instead of 1 Killer and 1 Survivor. It can be 1 male, 1 female for Killer, and Survivor (4 total)

My problem isn't that all the survivors being female, it's that they're all popular characters. All of the survivor winners were characters I see a lot in even short DBD sessions.
I just want a winner someday to be a less popular character like Adam for example, he gets a great community skin and then that's a starting point for players to play a lot of Adam and suddenly he becomes somewhat popular with more frequent skins. Heck, wouldn't even mind if Zarina won next community outfit as I don't see her enough to say she's popular despite thinking she's a great character

I honestly feel like most people play females because the outfits are so good actually. The males have very very basic outfits I feel like. :/ Like Nea and Yun and Feng, they have so many different colors you can make many different combos. The guys are basic generic jeans/shirt combos it feels like.

Well this is same for most of online games. Female characters are usually more popular than male characters.

What some fancy long matrix style coat for a male? I can’t think of anything that’s too out there for males that’s current era and hasn’t been done. It doesn’t help though that a significant number of the licensed characters are male. Yoichi, Leon, Steve, Ash, Quentin, Tapp and Bill. Females have Laurie, Jill, Nancy and Cheryl only. So there’s fewer choices for males anyway.
However I do agree what most men have is very samey. Like even some variance in theme like roaring 20s, Wild West, high tech etc. There’s a lot you can do with both genders if you stretch the time period thing.

Women are just more fun to draw

A quick note as someone who's been involved with the judging in some way since these contests started, it's purely coincidence. The gender of the character play absolutely no role in which outfit gets selected. That said, I have noticed over the years that there tends to be more submissions for female survivors than male survivors. I can't say for certain why that is. This doesn't seem to be the case for Killers, on the other hand, possibly because of how distinct each Killer is. While it's not a random draw by any means, having more entries for female survivors does make it more likely that the winning design will be for a female survivor.
There's always next year, though (I hope). What you don't see with these contests is the literal dozens of other amazing concepts- both male and female- that could have won, but unfortunately didn't make it since there can only be one winner.

Other then Steve, yeah I only play females too
1 -
It just had to be one.
Is it possible that some survivors get a skin based on their tomes?
such as Dare Damsel Meg and Pizza King Dwight?
1 -
Well, y’all could easily expand the rules to have more than one outfit make it into the game, possibly the best three :)
2 -
That's what I'm saying! I was really hoping a male survivor would win this year, but oh well... 😥

I wondered if that was at least part of it. There might be some kind of snowball effect going on, where (at least certain) female survivors already have really cool cosmetics, which inspires people to come up with more for that character or in that vein, which leads to there being more submissions for women than men...
Others have suggested it too, but have you considered offering both a male and female winner for survivor cosmetics? They tend to be a little less involved than the killer cosmetics anyway, maybe if you shuffle it so there's one universal charm and three outfits instead of two/two?

Why doesn't Dwight have a shirt with a locker on it?
1 -
Why doesn't Dwight wear a locker with arm and leg holes?
3 -
In a perfect scenario, I'm sure we'd all love that. But unfortunately changing the rules to have more winners is just the easy part. Unfortunately there's just not enough time to add even more to the schedule at the moment. Between the other outfits in the tome, the store, and any events that may be going on, the art team's pretty swamped with outfits to create as is.

If there's anyone who I didn't need to be told is overworked at BHVR, it's the art team. I absolutely believe this.

I think they just generally look way more interesting. Like, I bet if you added a non typical type, like maybe an alternative styled dude (emo/goth), or someone witchy like Mikaela, they'd have some more use. Hell, Jeff has the most promise I think, he seems to be a metal head and it looks like he might have some "weirder" outfits that are more fun. I mean seriously, who wants to run around in office attire???

Speak for yourself. Not all artists find it more fun to draw women. And the whole better figures, better anatomy is just because you are almost certainly a hetro male.
Would definitely prefer for a 1 of each situation, rather than 30+ for women, 5 for men. What does this show in terms of equality?
2 -
This doesn't surprise me in the least, but it would be nice for some sexual equality for men for once, God knows women bang on about it daily IRL lol.

I didn't get round to submitting my MS Paint Double Denim 80's Metal Jeff, if I did, we'd be singing a different story now!

What bothers me about the Yui skin, and i mean that in the most respectful way possible for the creator: its just a Nea skin copy-pasted onto Yui. Even the pose is the same. Thats why i'm not very excited about it myself. Artist got a sick, groundbreaking "fallen angel" skin, Yui got "Nea"

Us makes do need more representation!
And on a serious note, people just like throwing outfits on females more 🤷♂️.

Female survivors are significantly more used than male ones. That's why.

As an artist
Yeah it's almost as if I was speaking about myself and my experiences with other artists. I'm glad that you noticed it because I wasn't exactly trying to hide that.
And the whole better figures, better anatomy is just because you are almost certainly a hetro male.
I'm glad that you like to think outside the box, but have you considered that maybe what I'm saying should just be taken at face value? There's a reason why Fashion is a feminine dominated industry.
You have a lot of options and styles to choose from when styling a female as they come in all different shapes and sizes and have a variety of options for each body type, you simply just don't have that kind of freedom with male subjects. A lot of the time you have to look into different cultures to find interesting fashion choices or else you just start dipping into fashion tropes that are boring and stale, look at the DbD male cosmetics and see the lack of variety there is compared to female choices.
When you have so many options to choose from with a gender that dominates the fashion industry, is it a wonder why people want more casual options for Yui instead of "Biker Girl" "Sport Girl"?
Where as for the male characters it's pretty ubiquitous what the fans want: "Shirtless Felix" "Shirtless Myers". Whether you consider it a meme or not, that's just kinda how it is.
It has very little to do with the gender of the artists, artists generally want to draw what they find interesting, if you want to draw men then go off, draw men, nobody is going to stop you. Just look anywhere online though and more often than not you will see female characters drawn in a variety of different poses, clothes, and body types.
Are those all drawn by Hetero Men? I doubt you could prove that.
Everybody has their own reasons, but female characters are more popular than male ones

this was pretty funny and sad to read at the same time lmao

It would be way more fair to have have seperate catgories for one male survivor and one female survivor cosmetic design

Oof, I'm going to cover my poor Leon and Felix's ears.

Dude I love Leon, but he has like, 3 options right? Sweater, swat gear and his RE4 outfit. It's boring, as much as I love him. T.T

Yeah, Fortnite has the same issue. Female skins get all the attention, all the extra styles, rereleased but the male counter part skins don't get it. It's a real shame. Make more Male skins! make good ones too! A lot of Male skins are ugly.

YES! He needs way more and don't get me even started on Chris 😩
