What happened to "awarding players prestige levels based on perk tiers unlocked?"
I'm confused...
In June, the devs said:
"When the system releases, we’ll be automatically awarding existing players an appropriate number of prestige levels based on how many perk tiers they’ve unlocked. If you’ve left all your characters at level 50 and focused on unlocking perks, your work won’t be for nothing."
But now, here in July they're saying:
"In the PTB, we awarded one bonus prestige level for each prestige your characters had prior to the PTB. For the full Mid-Chapter release, we have increased this to 2 bonus prestige levels."
----
Do we get awards for perk tiers unlocked and Prestige Levels earned prior-to?
Or do we only get rewards for Prestige Levels earned prior-to?
----
I left some of my characters sitting at P0 50 with many perks unlocked, but after the July Dev Update dropped, YouTubers/Streamers are telling us to ditch all our items, addons, offerings, and perks to get Prestige 1. (This grants 2 bonus Prestige Levels when the Mid-chapter patch releases, totalling P3 and unlocking all their teachables at Tier 3).
----
Edit: (I'm blind.) Found this in the July Dev Update:
"Finally, we’ve made a tweak to our catch-up mechanic, which awards you bonus prestige levels based on your progress prior to this overhaul going live. This is based on the number of perk tiers you’ve unlocked on a character as well as their prestige."

It's still a thing - you get awarded catch up mechanics for both prestiging and perk tiers.
It's why they've now newly stipulated in the recent dev update that P9 is the max you can get even if any bonuses would have exceeded P9, and the only way to have exceeded P9 is to combine Prestige level bonuses and Perk Tier catch ups levels.
Going by the above, it is not worth Prestiging your Level 50 character if they have 170+ perk tiers or more, since you'll be P3 from perk tiers regardless.

This is a bad change, it doesn't respect and honor your investment. Someone with a Level 50 P3 and every perk at T3 is not in the same boat as someone at P3 Level 1. The new cap is totally unnecessary, in the PTB people that had everything made it to P11. It's not like it automatically puts you at P100 or anywhere near that number. Impudence comes to mind.

So the problem is listening to what youtubers and twitch streamers tell ya to do bc they are not you? Go figure.

They were probably saying if the character is p0 50 and doesn't have a bunch of perk tiers on it already that you should just prestige before the update drops. Or they forgot about the perk tier based part of the catch up mechanic; streamer doesn't mean all-knowing. Don't worry. If you have the perk tiers you'll get the prestige levels promised.

Luckily I didn't feel like booting up the game to get my characters to P1 when I first saw the YouTuber's/Streamer's posts.
Now that I have 1 mil BP saved up, I wanted to get some clarification before prestiging needlessly.
Thanks

Yeah, after some deliberation I decided to P1 all the characters I had gotten to level 50 and immediately abandoned, but left the rest alone.
If you have any substantial investment in a character beyond that, it's not gonna be worth it.

Okay, so if I have more than 120 perk tiers on a character it's not worth getting them to Presitge 1, because I can get the 2 bonus prestige levels anyway without losing items, addons, offerings, and perks. Got it.
Time to go do some counting...

Yeah, I have no idea why they walked that back. They're giving the same bonus to someone who crammed prestiges during the event as they are to someone who mained a character for 3 years and has 200 of each map offering on them, and that makes no sense. It'd be one thing if they never distinguished it at all, but they already had a system in place that rewarded the second guy proportionately, and then decided to remove it for whatever reason.

If your character is P0-50 and you did not spend any more BP on additional lvl 50 webs. Then it is in your best interest to P1-1 that character.
Why? Because every prestige level gives +2 with the catch-up. Placing that character at P3-1 after the update. If you leave them at P0-50 with 59 perk tiers, you will be P1 or barely P2 after.
Why should you not P1? Do not P1-1 if you have all perks. If you have all perks then after the update you will be P3 or higher anyways. Plus you get to keep all your offerings and addons.

Okay, so if I have more than 120 perk tiers on a character it's not worth getting them to Presitge 1
If you have more than 170 perk tiers, not 120.
Having 121 perk tiers on a P0 character gives you 2 additional prestige levels, so you'll be sitting at P2 when the update drops (P0 + P2 = P2).
Having 0 perk tiers on a P1 characters gives you 2 additional prestige levels, so you'll be sitting at P3 when the update drops (P1 + P2 = P3).
Of course, you need to take into account the fact that you'll lose all your items, offerings and addons when you prestige, including any retired ones.

He is not wrong. 120 perks will get a P0 Lv50 character to P2 Lv50, which is basically P3 Lv1 while keeping all your belongings.

There's no reason to have it capped at p9 fr fr

Agreed with everything you said except this: P0 lv50 with 59 perk tiers before the update will still be P0 lv50 after the update. You need at least 70 tiers for P1.
For what it's worth, here's my opinion:
Characters currently at P0 with less than 70 perk tiers and few valuable items in their inventory (including addons and offerings) should be prestiged to P1 before the update.
Characters currently at P0 with over 70 perk tiers or who have items you don't want to lose should just try to acquire as many additional perk tiers as possible.
Characters that have already prestiged at least once should not be prestiged again until after the update unless you really want the red background for that character.
Of course it's going to vary from player to player based on their goals and priorities.

Wasn't sure on the perk tier to prestige ratio. Thanks for the correction.

Just for my own peace of mind - is there an official statement that P1'ing a character will make it automatically P3 when new system comes out?? I can't seem to find that anywhere.

Sure thing.
It's 50 tiers per prestige but for some reason P1 starts at 70.

Yes, its in the July Dev Update.
In the PTB, we awarded one bonus prestige level for each prestige your characters had prior to the PTB. For the full Mid-Chapter release, we have increased this to 2 bonus prestige levels. This means if your character was prestige 3 before the update, they are guaranteed to be prestige 9 after the update, granting all the new rewards immediately. The catch-up mechanic will be limited to prestige 9, however, even if the calculated bonus would exceed this.

Are we sure it's going to be P2 lvl50 instead of P2 lvl1?
If it's like you said, then yes, 120 perks are enough, but I didn't see that info anywhere so I'm not assuming it'll work like that.
Especially after all the decisions that bhvr is taking with this process
