Is there a counter for bad teammates?

I know every multiplayer team based game has bad players. But oh LORD does DBD have some… savory characters. Is there anything in SOLO Q I can do when the team is just bad? I just had a game with Freddy where the last gen was 80% done (by me) and my last 2 teammates refused to do gens. They just hid behind trees and went down. I even looped him for 3 minutes or so away from the gen. Is there anything else I can do? A good build maybe?

Last time that happened i was with a X3 SWF of which only took actions to harass the killer all game until the killer finally killed one of them... they then decided to spend the rest of the game hiding and flashlight harassing when they could...

At this point I decided it would be much more fun to go for a ride with the killer who had Agitation and mad grit.

However, the long term solution is to always bring a medkit and always save it for yourself... perkswise... if you bring selfish perks... it will only hamper your survival odds when matched with a good team. The best setup is to bring two perks that help only you and bring two perks that help the team and you.

At the end of the day... it's a game... play to maximise your fun... regardless of what diehards say... games are not designed to exert stress or stupid challenges... they are for fun and entertainment... and don't ever forget that.

You can't really do anything about bad teammates in dbd. DBD has no real way to be a solo carry unless you can somehow get the killer to chase to you for all 5 gens and you'll still have to hope your teammates will save you if you do get caught after the last gen is finished.

Try bad teammates with a Nurse every second game you play, that's a real pleasure. In short, enjoy your misery. To be honest I have no clue how anyone can get higher in MMR in this game if you weren't already in high MMR, but it isn't like you magically get more competent people there, either.

Not really. The game prioritizes queue time over match quality to a huge degree.

It's pretty obvious early in a game if your teammates are bad enough that you can't possibly win. You can see on Kindred if nobody is on a gen. And it's fairly obvious when everyone is going down instantly. I run Wake Up 90% of the time and cut my losses if the team seems incapable.

    SWF is the answer.

Use Bond perk when you soloQ: you will quickly see the level of your teammates and can prevent 3-gen situation, be more useful from team-play POV, ... so many tactical and smart things to do when you are really aware of your surroundings.

Besides, you will understand if the match can be won or not (usually, in first 2 minutes of the game)

Then, you play accordingly: typical DbD game where you aim for an escape ... or just a round where you want to earn as much BPs as possible.

Do not bring strong items in the game (or brown/yellow medkit) when you soloQ, so you do not really care if you die.

After this, the frustration of bad teammates will mostly disappear ... and you can even run WGLF perk (before next update) for juicy BPs even if you die (typical end) ... shame on devs to remove WGLF stacks for solo players!

Making friends who have game sense and use comms in a full SWF. I won’t even bother with solo queue too much anymore. And it used to be just about all I did. Too tiring and frustrating.

What you want to do is let yourself die on hook and move on to the next one.

    Play Killer. That's your counter.

Play well enough to carry what they're failing at. if they're going down in seconds, or not leading the killer away from points of pressure (hooked survivors, 3 gens, near completed gens, etc) then get chased on purpose and lead them away and waste their time. If everyone's hovering for saves, just slam out gens or do the above distraction tactic. Its not possible to carry every single game, but if you're skilled enough you can certainly "reshuffle" favor away from the killer multiple times in a match and give them more chances.

If you can't, you're not much better than the teammates youre looking down upon.

That is not true. There are dozens upon dozens of videos of deranked survivors trolling a killer for an entire 10-20 minute match and they still eventually lose. The 1v1 is weighed quite heavily in favor of killer unless gens are flying. Well, even then, it still favors killer, you just usually do not have enough time to take advantage of it against "better" teams. Better in quotes because they could be my overall skill level as survivor which is extremely low. But I am intelligent enough to do gens unlike low end survivors. So you know, it works out well regardless.

The point being, MMR is not the best gauge of skill and the games are most certainly not well balanced enough to make a claim that you are somehow as bad as that Meghead, afk crow Blendette, or that Dwight accidentally running into a wall JUST because you cannot solo carry. That is absurd.

Doing this cool thing called focusing on improving yourself instead of blaming your teammates.

I never said you'd always win, just that you'd be able to reduce the killer's advantage and give your teammates more chances to get their ######### together. Turning a guaranteed loss into a real match if you will. Also the last comment was about perspective, aka looking down on others when not being able to step up is a prime example of blaming teammates rather than trying to improve your own game where you can. I practice chases and looping in losing games all the time, even if knowing i won't win the match, because its a scenario that allows me to get live experience. Its like how in fighting games its better to lose and learn a matchup than it is to win vs an unskilled opponent and learn nothing.

Not really, not unless you play a 4-man SWF. For me, if it's down to two survivors and I'm the only one trying to do gens, I'll go find the other survivor and try to make sure we both die. If it's down to three survivors and the other two aren't touching gens, then I just give myself up to the killer so I can die and get it over with. I used to try to play through that stuff, but it's not worth the frustration. It's not fun when teammates abandon me mid-match, so I move on to a new match where I can have fun.

Actually you have to hope they do 5 gens in the time it takes to chase you. The amount of times I've gone on 4+ minute chases without a single gen being done is staggering. When I finally go down, "why do I only see one aura? Why is Nea hiding on the other side of the map? You can see the killer isn't there. He's picking me up."

The only real counter is to switch to selfish play when you see your teammates are useless/trolling/throwing and bring Wake Up! or Left Behind to facilitate your E once they're all dead. That, or give up and do bones and the like. Don't try to prolong your survival, just do whatever gets points and move onto next when the killer finds you.

That, or you play SWF. Picking your teammates is the only way to avoid getting corner crouchers, locker lovers, and Technicians who can't hit skill checks but really, really want to help out on your gen.

But yeah. There's really nothing more painful than watching several teammates hide from their own shadows while the killer is chasing you on the other side of the map.

I usually just block them in game. That way u avoid having to play with them again.

Take that opportunity to train against that specific killer.

Look up solo que builds that use perks that share information such as kindred and a map with crystal bead. Or you can join a discord server group for dbd and find players who will team up

I find that hard to believe even if it's true. If it is, what is the point in blocking someone in game if they can still be put in a match with u. Since blocking is suppose to prevent u from ending up in matches with the person u blocked.

As I've said before, over time the game has evolved with constant survivor nerfs and the expectations and bar of performance is so high for the survivor side that randoms can't win in public matches. Randoms are supposed to be somewhat afraid of the killer and afraid to work on objectives but the killer can do his objective too quickly.

The game is only workable when 4 survivors know what they are doing playing together and the killer is a little less than high performance (not sweating and casually making mistakes).

I did! I was a Jane in booty shorts, right? Though I don't know about bad teammates, heh - I thought that was a great team. Couple of people stuck their necks out for each other, NOED got found, even had a few hook denials. That's the solo queue dream right there. I was sad when it turned out everyone was on a different platform at the end.

Awesome to have played with you! I love running into people I know from here.

The exact same scenario happened to me last night. I've played so many games in the past couple of days where I'm the only person repairing gens. I'm not sure if i will still be playing dbd by the time the update hits.

It wasn't so much that I didn't believe u as I found it hard to believe that there is the ability to block in game but all it does is block people from messaging u.

Most games if u block someone, they can't be matched up with u in matches so not sure why there is a block option if it doesn't do that. Defeats the purpose of even having one to begin with.

If a teammate is just doing nothing, I just ignore them. If they royally screw me over (i.e. unhooking me in front of killer with no BT or picking me up from the ground), I'll just let myself die on hook.

Or if I'm able to "get back at them," I'd just refuse to unhook or pick them up.

  • DemonDaddy

Just focus on yourself; farm off of their incompetence, rack up BP, and just out live them.

If you feel they just lack knowledge to act accordingly then there are perks to provide helpful indicators; coh highlights healing zones for them, better together (I think that's the name) shows them the gen your on, kindred helps in hook situations

Still, even with a team focused build, you can't control what they do. Best option is to do you and make use of the escape chances given to the final survivor.
