Remove "Whispers" from Spine Chill
Get notified when the Killer within a 36-meter range.
It makes stealth killers miserable.
Why are you doing this, devs?

Only if they have direct line of sight. If you sneak up behind something, they won't get the notification the perk is activated.
The dynamic indicator is tied to terror radius, so if you're undetectable, you have no terror radius, the survivor gets no feedback.

No, Spine Chill turns on its icon when the killer is within 36 meters.
That is different from TR indicator.
3 -
- the perk will be gutted soon enough as soon as accessibility is added for people hard of hearing
- this perk is really worthless so barely anyone will run it
- premonition also does this but even more effectively (what about argument ig)
3 -
- It is separate from accessibility (TR indicator).
- If I am able to notice the killer's approach and hide, the our team gains time advantage of [time the killer is looking for me] x [number of other survivors who are still alive].
- 0s cool-down

They didn't add TR requirement? Did anyone test that yet? Maybe they just forgot to mention it in the description.

Per the patch notes
- Spine Chill Reworked: Get notified when the Killer within a 36-meter range. If the Killer is within range and is looking at you with a clear line of sight, your speed while repairing, sabotaging, healing, unhooking, cleansing, blessing, opening exit gates and unlocking is increased by 2%/4%/6%. The effects of Spine Chill linger for 0.5 seconds after the Killer looks away or is out of range. Spine Chill's icon indicates the strength of the Killer's Terror Radius.
Notice that it lights up if the killer is within 36 meter range, no exceptions. The only thing that changes due to terror radius is the special indicator showing terror radius strength, but that is independent of the 36 meter radius notification. Also line of sight is only for activating the action speed bonus, even if the killer doesn’t have line of sight the survivor is still notified if they’re within 36 meters.

Then that's a bug.
0 -
It’s not a bug, it’s in the patch note description. It’s a bug if it doesn’t work like the patch notes say.
2 -
It bypasses undetectable?
..... That's a buff. It means a stealth killer can't fool spine chill anymore.

- read the patch notes, they literally said it isnt; TR indicator is also only on mobile; source: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/341-developer-update-july-2022
- you can also walk towards the killer as you do not know where they are all the time + there s simply better perks + vault speed removed
- really? i m not using it so i dont know, i highly doubt it. would need to test the perk. imma do that and then i post this message after 1 game with it
So i tested it and here is what i noticed:
- it is tied to terror radius so no, it does not work against stealth killers (tested against demogorgon emerging from a portal; it did not activate until their TR was audible)

The old Spine Chill worked on Undetectable killers too. The difference is the old one told you when they were looking in your direction while out of line of sight, the new one doesn't.

Can you test it in on a non unusual case killer? A teleport might act funky as opposed to turning on undetectable. For example, test with insidious or myers/gf

The red indicator is tied up, yes. The lighting up isn't. I can tell you more: 36 meters is much bigger distance than ANY basic terror radius, so Spine Chill becomes active much earlier than you hear TR.
0 -
it is not an unusual case
he is undetectable, he literally just moves
if the TP were something like freddy's or onryos sure
also i m not touching solo survivor again until it s not absolutely miserable to play

I'm testing it right now. And yes, there's no red indicator so I can't tell the distance, but Spine Chill is ligthed up if undetectable killer is near than 36 meters.

Based on other people's tests, it looks like indeed that spinechill is activating if a killer is within 32 meters and disregards the terror radius entirely except for the accessibility notification. Spinechill has turned into a massive beast of a buff that pales in comparison to its original form. Now you can't even crabwalk to avoid it.

(Edit: The description of the perk on the DBD wiki is false, so the following message is based on false information. Ignore it)
---------------------
Reading that description, it's a nerf to old spine-chill.
Old spine chill, the icon simply lit up if the killer was within the radius and looking towards your general direction. The moment the killer looked away, the icon stopped lighting up, so you could tell easily if the killer was going toward you or if the killer was just nearby but not approaching.
After the update, there are 2 main nerfs:
- The icon now stays lit up for 0.5 seconds, meaning it's much harder to determine whether the killer is going towards you or if the killer was just nearby and happened to look in your general direction for a moment.
- Now requires "clear line of sight", meaning that walls, trees, rocks, etc will block Spine Chill from activating. It will make Spine Chill nearly useless while working on generators, as these are usually hidden behind walls, rocks, trees, etc.
Remember, the description of the perk is:
"Whenever the killer is within 36 meters AND has direct line of sight." Meaning both has to be true at the same time. Based on this description it shouldn't activate from proximity unless the killer also has line of sight.

Can confirm that: I tested it with a friend in a custom lobby. We tested it both with a pyramid head and a ghostface, insidious and killer power.
It doesnt matter if the killer is undetectable. The only thing that is based on the TR is the red indicator.
The only thing based on line of sight is the action speed. The patch note description does in fact say "Get notified when the killer is within 36-meter-range. If the Killer is within range and is looking at you with a clear line of sight, your speed while repairing, [...]". Which is exactly what the perk does.
I honestly hope they change that. Old spine chill had some counterplay for stealth killers, this doesnt.

that's weird, i'm looking at the wiki right now and they phrase the perk like this:
Whenever the Killer is within 36 metres of your location and has direct line-of-sight to you, Spine Chill activates:
- • Increases your Action speeds in Repairing, Healing, Sabotaging, Unhooking, Cleansing, Blessing, Opening, and Unlocking by 2/4/6 %.
- • This effect lingers for 0.5 seconds.
Spine Chill reveals the intensity of the Killer's Terror Radius.
Based on this description, it sounds like the action speed bonus is the only thing affected by 36 meters + LoS, and that it should only be able to detect the intensity of the terror radius... Meaning stealth killers should be undetected unless they have line of sight?
At least that's what it sounds like, but it seems that from people's experience this isn't the case... weird.

Just to show anyone who hasn't tested by themselves:
Piramidhead's perk is active for Bubba but here we go: spinechill is active when he is close to me.
And even if there're no undetectable perks, Spinechill becomes active couple seconds earlier than red indicator appears. I have a video too, but you really should try it out. It's pretty useful, lol.

Because it was stated that way by the devs, as far as I remember. In QA stream or later on forum. And it should be that way, honestly, since they were trying to nerf the perk. And it's a logic way to implement see-the-sound feature. But now it's even worse than earlier. I like it but that's deffinetely unfair.
TR indicator is cool thing tho, I like it. Helps a lot, even tho I don't have any hear issues.

Lol who would have thought? BHVR attempting to nerf a perk and accidentally buffing it 💪
1 -
I think I remember mandy repeatedly said something like "It's a bug if non TR dependent indicator is there", is it a bug or feature when patch note explicitly stating it has changed?

This is a screenshot of the current in-game description of Spine Chill:
it is exactly the same as the patch notes. The wiki is, sadly, outdated.

The wiki's description is wrong, someone typed in an old one or mistyped it. Here's the actual description from the game itself. It matches the patch notes.

And just for the history - the video. In second clip I react immediately that undetectable killer is somewhere near the hooked person.
I don't know why patch-note looks like this is intended...

thanks! That is a pretty weird change
1 -
Yeah, I'm not sure, it had something to do with the whole thing about wanting to keep it usable for people who have difficulty hearing the terror radius so maybe once they have that built into the base game eventually they'll tweak Spine Chill again to work like they originally planned on the PTB? Who knows. 🤷♂️
1 -
This is false. It does not require line of sight anymore for detection
