Why Did Nobody Tell Me How Fun Autodidact Is
I mean it is so funny seeing survivors stare at me after I am done healing them because they saw their healing progress go down a ton at first use. But if you play altruistically, it makes for some very quick heal times from mid to late game. It'd be nice if the perk increased the rate of healing skill checks when not using a medkit, but I understand it is supposed to be an rng luck perk. It has helped me overall and quite fun in my healing build.

I like to combine it with Empathy and Empathic Connection to make finding people to heal easier. Toss in Renewal and your have a self heal on unhook

I guess you were too busy using the perks that youtubers amd twitch streamers said were meta?

I really enjoy running Autodidact, but way too many times it has bit me and my teammates in the butt if I can't get stacks really early.
I wish they would revisit Autodidact and just give it a 10-15% additional chance at skill checks. 10% definitely would not be game changing, but would help the perk so much! Especially with it being such a fun perk to use when it does actually work.

Oh nah, I'm usually a hook build gamer (Breakdown, Renewal, Deliverance, Camaraderie)

Yessss... join the Autodidact side. I always loved running it with Botany (as an apology for those first heals, I'll heal fast anyway) and that particular combo got stronger this patch. Been Autodickdacking all day today. Of course, I've been getting a ton of Legions, so it hasn't been the most helpful. And there was one Yui who tbagged me when she got the first two skill checks. 😅 But sometimes it really clutches, especially late game when you have some stacks.

That's part of why I use Empathic Connection. The 10% boost serves the same purpose without being so fast i can't get a skill check in

I'm specifically levelling up Yoichi so I can get that perk, lol. I want my bat signal up and running so I can get those stacks faster.

You think autodidact is fun? Let me tell ya, pair it with Botany Knowledge, it will blow your mind how fast your healing becomes.

It's because no one really uses it and it only potentially becomes useful late game (or mid game if you're really lucky). A green medkit with healing perks like desperate measures or botany mixed with built to last is a far superior build, it just sucks that botany doesn't work as well with it anymore and it requires a full loadout compared to 1 perk slot. I'd still rather run all of that compared to autodidact though. You also potentially throw the game if you don't have any stacks yet and heal someone at a bad time. It's a bad perk that needs to be buffed IMO

Oh nice! I love creating a specialist build for teamplay, as well.

Love Autodidact! It's super cool and feels so good when it comes in clutch.

Stacks, regardless of the perk, are always fun. RIP BBQ. 😭
But an honest answer, its a fun perk but can screwed by RNG multiple ways while also having an early downside. You have to rely on skill checks showing up, fellow survivors needing healing, not going against killers where healing isn't feasible (Plague/Legion), and not using a medkit.
But lowkey, I love all of Adam's perks. Easily one of the first survivors I focused on prestiging.

It's a fun perk but I am more of a We'll make It enthusiast keeping my team healed and taking care of them fast paired with Aftercare is my number one objective when playing survivor who cares about gens ?

Yup, I'm using Auto with Botany because it becomes really quick especially with this patch. I also run it along side Solidarity and Leader so that I get healing back when I am injured and Leader helps finish the rest of the heal off quicker especially when two people are healing me. I'll have to think about getting both Empathic and Desperate to possibly replace Solidarity and Leader for even quicker heals and making the build run better with Auto leading it 😤 Currently mine is more of a "we both get healed faster" build.

As much fun as Autodidact is, it doesn't play well with a ton of other perks and elements, and it is generally more of a killer perk than a survivor perk.
It is very fun though. As is For The People!

I think you need to run it with a medkit though because there's been a few times where a heal was not completed because of autodidact which in turn resulted in someone getting killed.
It 'is' a fun perk I just kinda wish it was 0%/10%/20%/30%/40%/50% instead of being initially a negative.
0 -
They made it negative because it becomes so OP, after you hit max you can basically 1 skill check heal people.

I dunno... with how good Botany is without penalty (aside health kit efficiency) as well as desperate measures it just doesn't seem worth it. I'm glad some people find it fun though.

The penalty only applies to items, autodidact only activates without using items, so you get no penalty all you get is a 50% extra healing increase. On top of however many stacks of autodidact you get.

I'm aware. That's why I said you should bring a health kit when using it so if you do need the heal without the penalty then you've got it. I meant in terms of healing speed, you get the maximum right out of the gate with Botany. Sure Auto at max is faster (I'd hope so lol) but I think I may be a little prejudice against it because I've seen it kill at least two survivors because they thought the heal would come through in time but Auto said NOPE you are still stuck here lol.

How about this tweak? You get the negative healing progress as a bonus chance to trigger skill checks. So fresh out of the box +25% chance and then +10% chance with one token and normal chances from then on. A tiny tweak with a cool effect.
