6.1.2 Balance Changes - The Good, The Bad And The Ugly. Thoughts?
So, from the top:
Thana - good change. A bit unneeded, as Thana is honestly more of a psychological perk than an effective one. It'll still be great for Plague and Legion and will likely still be complained about endlessly.
Mettle Of Man - Huh. This is now an interesting perk. I have no idea whether it'll be good, bad or something in between. Curious to see how it plays out.
Pain Resonance/Dead Man's Switch -
Wat.
No, seriously - Pain Resonance is still an outlier numbers wise, and still lacks the 'character' it's information component gave it before. Keep the interrupt, bring back the scream, put it to 10% regression, make it so DMS doesn't activate off this perk.
DMS is now, once again...sort of a garbage perk. Which is a pity, as it's a fun perk with a lot of counterplay currently.
Balance Incentives - Welp, damn. Might have to wait until 6.2.0 to really get back into DbD, because matchmaking is bizarre right now. Queues aren't too bad, but it's as wonky as it was during the anniversary. This might be due to the HCS stuff, but I have no idea.
Overall: Eh. This patch feels like two steps forward, one step sideways, one step backwards.

BHVR wanted to "Shake up the Meta" by rendering all decent survivor perks essentially useless. This was to encourage us to use other perks- that they don't bother to make that great.
MoM is a niche, rarely used perk that only activated under very specific conditions and now they've nerfed the only good, possible use it could have.
Like seriously. It activates and then the Killer knows exactly where the survivor is unless you're right up their arse, and knows that survivor can't do anything to progress the game. It's inconcievable to me how a bunch of grown adults can find the most bizarre ways possible to make a perk so entirely stupid, so unusable that it's kind of more detrimental than it is helpful- AND they get paid for it.

My biggest gripe isn't the changes
it's the justification for one of them
Pain res/DMS got changed because
"lol we can't fix merciless storm for some reason so change 2 perks around it instead"
27 -
looks like I can continue not playing as they fixed no actual problems
5 -
I was relieved to see that the devs didnβt forget to make their trademark βchange that nobody asked forβ with MoM nerf. #########??
2 -
Uhhh, pretty sure it's a buff. You go take a protection hit at some point during the game, go heal. Then you go take another protection hit, and then you have endurance and the killer won't know about it until they hit you again? Seems good to me, especially if after the second hit you then jam your character model in their way and force them to hit you
2 -
Dude, they made it so when MoM activates, the Killer sees the survivors aura unless that survivor is within 16m (or something). You also LOSE the MoM Endurance if you do *any conspicuous action*. Touch a gen. Touch a totem. Heal.
Tell me how that's a buff, and tell me how it's useful in anyway? Like, I have never personally used the perk. So it's not a problem for me. I'm just flabbergasted that they zeroed in on this rare, already kinda crappy and unused perk and crappified to oblivion. There's a hundred other productive things they could have done. Like revert DS to a 5 second stun.

All because boo hoo they brought back a powerful combo thatβs not going to be so powerful and nerfed something thatβs pointless Iβm going to quit wahhhh wahhh. Just reread what you wrote and look at how Ridiculous you sound
1 -
The combo itself doesn't bother me
What bothers me is that they brought it back not for balance reasons but technical ones
It makes 0 sense
11 -
And your going to cry like a baby and quit the game? Iβm not talking about you but thatβs completely ######### stupid. I understand quitting for not having fun and being burnt out but because of oh they changed the perks to fix a issue. Thatβs so idiotic
0 -
I never said I was quitting
That was the other fella
3 -
I said that in my comment I wasnβt talking about you
0 -
My b
But yeah not worth quitting over
I'm already mentally prepped to deal with pain res/dms looool
2 -
People complaining about MoM and Thanatophobia and yet nobody will give a flying ######### when the update drops
0 -
Eh, I'm neutral with most of the stuff since it doesn't actually change much of anything.
Thana nerf doesn't matter as it will still be used by only Legion, Plague, and the occasional Nurse adept. Nothing new there.
MoM was a niche perk that most people threw the game to use. It's been nerfed but will still be a niche perk people will throw the game to use. So again, nothing has changed.
They brought back the Pain Res/DMS combo but it's a little weaker. Nothing new that survivors haven't dealt with in the past.
Pretty meh overall. I would have liked to see DS back to 5 seconds or something to do with camping. I'd personally like to see increased hook times to go with the increased gens so survivors have more time to finish the gens if the killer is camping.
0 -
Mettle's 0.3% pickrate spikes to 0.4% then drops to 0.2% unless someone figures out that it's actually super good
Thana goes back to Legion/Plague exclusives
And the world keeps turning lmao

The idea is to allow for a double body block from one person to disrupt tunneling.
We'll see how it plays out on the PTR. It's a weird change for sure, but it's interesting - and I can see a few scenarios where it could be rather good.
Chill, mate.
0 -
Uhh so what? By the time you get it you have already taken a second protection hit. So the killer is going to be within that 16m, and is either going to hit you again or you just bodyblock them until they do.
I'm thinking more a situation where your teammate is getting tunneled into the floor and now you can go bodyblock 3 (!!) hits for them if you had a protection hit earlier in the game
0 -
Iβm sorry alright but I get sick and tired of this ######### sometimes. We get a killer sided updated and all the survivors hate the Thanatophobia legion players the devs try to fix it maybe not in a good way and now where all harassing the devs again all over a pointless change. Not on the forum but people on YouTube are saying welp devs hate killers fun they always listen to survivors when repairing gens for 2 minutes wasnβt fun at all
0 -
no BP incentives, it's a bad patch.
3 -
Nothing that exciting there but nothing that bothers me much.
Thana - was sick of seeing it, I seem to be in the minority in thinking that even legion and plague mains will probably ditch it but we'll see.
PR/DMS/merciless storm - meh, I don't feel strongly about it
Mettle of man - 2 protection hits is much more doable than 3 so you might actually see it now. I don't understand why people are acting like an integral part of survivor gameplay has been lost forever. You see MoM in 1/50 games and in the games you do see it it gets activated 1/10 times. And yet it's being mourned harder than DH was.
3 -
Thank you!!!!!!
Finally someone I can agree with. Everyone is flipping over a perk you barely saw
1 -
Guess we'll see how it plays out. Again, I don't really care about them changing MoM, I've never used it, and it's a pretty obscure perk I've only seen streamers "try out". And they usually make their entire match about getting use out of it.
I think my greater point was, of all the perks, and all the issues, feedback, they decide to make a change no one asked for, that probably won't really have an impact on most players. It's just such an obscure perk and that's what they choose to focus on for a hotfix. It's strange.
0 -
MoM actually is in a weird spot after that patch, and the killer can even see you coming for the bodyblock now. And I can't believe they're not reversing DS from 3s to 5s.
0 -
Good riddance of Thanatophobia, it's going to be a great patch just because of that.
1 -
Hm? will people escape for heal after two protection hits?
I thought for most of times people use it like third health state after required condition met, so as long as survivors won't get farther away after it activates, they won't be seen.
1 -
Yeah but before you could go away to do gens and help your team with the objective and later you would help taking a hit for your team since you did all the effort to get the protection hits. Now you need to commit to a bodyblock otherwise the perk is kinda useless since it deactivates by repairing and healing.
1 -
The devs are adults whose literal job is to make this game/work on it and they've got the experience needed in their own field. People can say all they want, but at the end of the day, they're most likely going to look at what the majority of the feedback everywhere is and what the stats actually show, then decide what they find the best course of action will for their game. I'd say for your own sanity take what people say with a grain of salt and don't let it get to you :)
0 -
The commitment required for MoM has been actually reduced, by 1/3.
It seems much more consistent and quite easier to pull off, and realistically speaking how many times people actually do gens between third protection hit and fourth.
1 -
Yes it is easier to activate it but you can't save it for later anymore, that's my problem with the change. You either have to go for the hit after activating or let it deactivate.
1 -
Thana is a 60% effective nerf for anyone besides Plague. The nerf went way too far.
1 -
Yeah you're basically stuck running around, looking for whoever is being chased and be like; "I'm coming! I'll take that hit! Hey.. hey wait up! I have MoM! Oh crap the Killer can see me coming and knows exactly why...I'll still try tho!".
Meanwhile, gens take 5 years to complete and this person is running around, not doing them.
4 -
The point is, you are already committing fully on body block by using MoM anyway, and that capability nerf wouldn't really affect what it can do.
0 -
Why are you looking for anyone when you need second protection hit to activate it anyway?
Killers gonna chase you or the one you just saved, I doubt you have to get away in that situation.
0 -
"The one you just saved", You mean unhooked? Which is a conspicuous action that deactivates MoM endurance? Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean. Can you describe a scenario where MoM could be be useful?
0 -
not enough changes in the 6.1.2 and buffing the wrong perks.
0 -
If you deny hooking itself, if you body block killer to stop tunneling, if you unhook survivors while healthy.
There is still more situation it can be useful than it become useless.
0 -
I think it's less about whether or not MoM will be better or worse, it's more of a question as to why resources are being allocated to MoM when other slowdowns are running wild right now. And people's frustration with that is presenting itself as "why on earth are you messing with MoM????" It's a fair question as to whether all the time spent on MoM could have been better spent fixing Merciless Storm's logic so we didn't have to bring back DMS/Pain Res instead.

Underwhelming

How is Thana a good change?
The only reason it got nerfed is because of Plague and Legion, but even you said that it will still be great on those two killers to the point of being complained about till the end of time.
Tf was good about the change then? Thana is downright useless on anybody that isn't Legion and Plague and after this patch that will no longer be an opinion, it will be a straight up fact. It will be business as usual for Legion and Plague, by definition this change does absolutely nothing to solve the problem.
Mettle of Man was a bad perk before the MidChapter update, it was a bad perk during the MidChapter update and will now become a useless perk in 6.1.2.
Essentially you have to get a protection hit which will activate MoM, and then you have to figure out a way to get the killer to hit you again, without you doing anything productive during that entire time you're trying to get the killer to hit you.
Oh yeah, and the killer has wallhacks when it's activate so they know you have it.
I also don't think you realize how dumb of a change the Pain Res - DMS "buff" is. They're literally just reverting the interaction back to what it was before the MidChapter Update because they literally couldn't figure out how to fix the Pain Res - Merciless Storm interaction. Meanwhile people on their own forums provided a solution within minutes.
There's a lot of things I would revert about the midchapter patch, but none of them involve "We can't fix this, so have the old interaction nobody liked + a slight nerf"
This chapter isn't a few steps forward, one step back, it's no steps forward. If this is what the devs think is the highlight of the patch and would putting out first, I fear for the rest of the changes they have planned for 6.1.2 because dang this is awful.
0 -
They nerfed clown and buffed blight in the same patch a few months ago, not sure why this would surprise you. The reason could be as simple as BHVR wanting to boost Ash sales rather than anything related to balance
0 -
Take a protection hit. Heal. Next time someone goes down contest the hook. Killer hits you once, doesn't know you have MoM active now, hits you again, you don't go down and the Survivor they were carrying escapes. Ideally you want to run Breakout as well.
π¦π¦
2 -
Why not just change Merciless Storm???? I don't understand. Is their code really that messy?
0 -
I don't like the MoM "rework", but other than that, a pretty good patch for Survivors
0 -
I'm...actually a fan.
This. It's a nice tool that requires decision making, a bit of risk and a bit of foresight. I wish more survivor perks were this interactive.
1 -
Yeah it's in a weird spot. You could easily end up in a situation where your second protection hit is immediately after you are unhooked. So now you're injured, and MoM is active, but its effect is disabled because you have deep wound from BT. Doing anything other than mending turns it off, so you have to be 'that guy' and go run right back to the killer off hook. Or you just go down because you get tunneled off hook and can't mend.
From a killer perspective, MoM is just a free aura read for a survivor who can't do anything useful for a while. It's a problem that literally just goes away if you ignore it because eventually they have to progress the game.

I've already got 2.3 million bloody points sitting there stagnating away. I'm a 7 year player: I need something a bit more substantial than BP now. The QoL of the game is shocking at the moment..
0 -
I don't see anyone using Thana after this. 2% slowdown just doesn't seem worth the perk slot, even on Legion.
Even worse, this is pretty much the nail in the coffin for Pain Resonance getting its information aspects back.
DMS is even worse now.
But nah, the devs are clearly biased towards killers π

A nerf to Thana Legion and Thana Plague is appreciated but i am mildly annoyed that DS wasn't reverted/OTR wasn't buffed to also hide blood and scratch marks, i am also annoyed that they aren't buffing the basekit BT
The patch, like you said, is fine, i've seen worse, but i have also seen better

Thana just got the sledgehammer Ruin treatment.
1 -
The good
-Nothing.
The Bad
-Everything.
The Ugly
-The distasteful change they did to Mettle of Man.
