DBD and BHVR appreciation thread

Hey, friends 😁

I've been thinking... with all the toxicity that our little community is famous for (and with how unique of a game we all commune over) I think that we need more positivity here to appreciate the game and developers that break their backs to maintain it and maintain our satisfaction. Say what you will about the state of the game or BHVR's choices, but I really do think that for every complaint made there is also some really good praises to be made, too.

In spirit of trying to be positive like this, this is what I ask of you:

Comment something about BHVR or DBD that you love!! Or just something that you greatly appreciate or respect!!

***Please don't kill my intentions here by being negative, we really do need more positivity in the world, much less our favorite game's forums. Start complaining or being toxic and I'll facecamp you while the other survivors point***

Wesker’s theme for the chase is so damn good that I honestly want to be chased by him when he launches on live, like I swear if you told the music team for dbd to make a onetime theme that you’d hear only once in a game they would make it so damn good

Unironically pretty good job so far.

The fact that DbD didn't die in 2016 is something of a miracle. Not many people could pull off making an asymmetric game in a brand new genre and not have it crash and burn. I'll say it again, DbD being popular and successful is something of a miracle.

I like that they can make good licensing deals for the game and for the most part have a good record maintaining them. Komoney and Capcom couldn't have been easy.

I just like how good the core gameplay loop is. Even if i get burned out for playing the game too long its a game i'll keep coming back to. Because its genuinely fun and pretty easy to just pick up and play.

    Good job DBD team

    Sure.

    • Dredge is such a well designed killer, I'm legitimately amazed.
    • Out of the last 6 chapters (including Wesker), 5 have been really good (Onryo was sad).
    • The audio design is incredible.
    • The meta has never been more varied than it is now.
    • While some people carp about it, SBMM has made such a positive impact on my experience it's difficult to fully articulate.
    • The visuals of new/reworked maps are beyond incredible.
    • While I don't agree with every change made, the game really is getting better and better as time passes.

I personally like the trailers and how well they are done. Their ability to build up so much hype for a chapter is also one of my favorite things they do.

I am glad they continue to support DBD and work quickly to resolve issues like connectivety or other issues. I also like the music used for killers and their uniqe menus all the time.

Dredge was such a well designed killer and so much fun to play as and against. The cosmetics team have also been really smashing it out of the park lately.

The art team always does a great job.

Staff actively monitors the bug reporting section, even reached out to me personally about an issue.

i have a tendency to be an ######### about bhvr which i chalk up to being an idiot hormonal teenager but there's definitely a lot to appreciate about the game and the people working on it.

the art direction has pretty much always been great, character designs and cosmetics are by far one of the biggest appeals of the game. designing characters that can stand with some of the biggest icons in horror isn't easy by any means and i feel they've nailed it.

the music is incredible, i listen to some of the songs in the game just on my own time. unstable and pyramid head's chase theme stand out in particular.

regardless of strength i can say most killer powers are fun or satisfying to use. wesker being able to literally throw survivors is a mechanic i always wanted a killer to have and i'm very happy to see in the game.

They have, in fact, done some good for the game within recent updates.

    That is all.

What I love about DBD is how the game used to be.

From 2016 to early-2019, BHVR did a FANTASTIC job, and had on their hands the absolute best game I've ever played. Everything about it was so damn perfect that I barely have any words for it.

Back then, I can finally say it...BHVR had done a pretty good job.

Considering how infrequent interesting monsters and killers are in horror movies today, I am constantly amazed at how awesome DBD's original killers are, from their unique designs and traits to their stories. The killers were what got me into this game, and I'll always respect the creative teams at BHVR.

The fact they have made a game that at its most basic level created a true slasher-survival experience whilst also being multiplayer is great, but it has expanded into many realms and stretching out into all different genres of horror: from movie slashers like "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", tv series "Stranger Things", gaming "Silent Hill", "RE", and recently books and anime .. it really is an amazing horror multiverse!

I'm still waiting for a podcast though! "The Magnus Archives" beckons!

I admire you for your appreciation and positivity. I have been waiting for this thread for so long...

I think they are an extraordinary company, We can see how much love and thought they put into everything.

With every new chapter I'm always amazed by the amazing design, work and music. And I wholeheartedly love everything they do.

They deserve a more loving and supportive community.

aside from the gameplay mechanics, we need to show the team who's responsible for the story and lore of each character some appreciation. they're very well written and make each character, survivor and killer, unique in their very own ways and are for some even relatable. i've been playing for years now and the lore is something i like to look into!

In all seriousness, they hardly ever miss in anything except balancing and sometimes the lore. Visuals, soundsβ€”I can’t say that I liked everything, but overall I can’t call it bad.

Fun fact, dbd is the first game ever in alot of regards when it comes to it's licenses, such as being

    • The first game ever to legally and officially release Hellraiser content for a video game
    • The game that officially debuted Pinhead's first appearance in a released video game and also being the first game ever to legally let you play as him.
    • The first game ever to have Doug Bradley officially voice Pinhead in a video game
    • The first game ever to have official Crypt TV content in a video game
    • The first (and currently only) game ever to have both Silent Hill & Resident evil content together in the same game
    • The first game ever to let you play as Amanda Young from SAW
    • The first multiplayer game ever to let you play as Detective David Tapp
    • The first game ever that let's you play as Sadako Yamamura
    • The first game ever to let you play as characters like Laurie Strode, Quentin Smith, the Ash version from Ash vs Evil Dead.
    • The first game ever to create it's very own original ghostface character that isn't connected to scream or is just an extra costume only and who's lore revolve around the ghostface moniker
    • The first multiplayer game ever to legally let you play as Michael Myers in an authentic way
    • The first game ever to official license Ringu and also create lore for it that becomes part of it's own canon

I would also have added in the first game ever to legally have the big 4 slasher icons together in the same game, however we're unfortunately not there yet as we're still missing Jason.

This right here is probably why I'm so addicted to this game after all my years of playing it. Base game, DBD is already a solid game with HOURS o replay value - but throwing in licensed characters as the first time they are playable in a video game? YES! The excitement of the next chapter's content is something I treasure since I've been experiencing it for so long now.

    • Dbd has a really fun core gameplay loop, if it didn't I wouldn't still be playing after three years. πŸ™‚
    • The music is terrific! Obviously I like some songs a little more than others since it's a huge collection of songs but it's really one of the better video game background soundtracks I think.
    • It's pretty amazing the mix of licenses they've managed to get all in the same game. Freddy, Michael Meyers, Sadako, Pinhead, even other popular video game franchises. That's not to say their original killers aren't fun to play too, but just in terms of "horror street cred" having all these really popular characters in one setting is quite an achievement!
    • Tons of variety of maps and killers, not to mention the two hundred or so perks and all the add ons. It really adds to the replayability!
    • Lots of fun mori animations (looking at you Ghost Face! πŸ“ΈπŸ˜±πŸ˜ˆπŸ”ͺ Also the cinematic trailers for the killers are all pretty snazzy. (Again, Ghost Face's shopping trip is one of the best!)
    • Understandably with almost 30 killers I like some better than others, but I think they've been putting out some fun ones recently. Dredge might be my favorite killer so far with his great teleportation and long periods of stealth combined with his really unique look and skins. Sadako is also a lot of fun to play for similar reasons. Artist is less my jam since I'm not quite into her playstyle but I really love the aesthetics of her crows. And Pinhead is just fun with his teleportation, voice lines and chains popping out of nowhere. These killers aren't as potentially powerful as, say, Nurse or Blight, but I actually think Dredge and Sadako in particular are more fun to play than those two (at least for me!) And now Wesker is looking really fun too!

Funnily enough, there's an obscure horror-themed fighting game called Terrordrome that released in 2013. It included characters like Jason, Freddy, Myers, Leatherface, Pinhead, Chucky, Ghostface, Candyman, Ash, and some more obscure horror icons like Herbert West from the Reanimator. If you're interested, it might be worth the worth the look.

I'm aware of it, i also know they're creating a second game with publicly available horror characters.

My hopes is that one day the remaining cast of characters from Terrordrome: rise of the boogeyman comes into dbd and have their first official video game debut, because some of them are really important characters who by having their inclusion could cement dbd's status as the ultimate smash bros of horror experience even further.

however out of all the characters from that game, the Tallman would be the one who i am mostly hoping to see one day join the game since i'm a big fan of Phantasm, also Don Coscarelli himself has said on twitter that he's open for a video game adaptation of Phantasm, so it might actually have a chance.
