The secret to winning more matches (survivor AND killer).

Hear me out guys. I know this sounds like a gigantic Shitpost, but I assure you my intentions are noble.

It's not complicated, but it is vital that you understand the main principle of this game in competition is pressure. If you want to secure the match either for your mates, or against the squad, you have got to make sure you are pressuring the other side!

Survivors--

The main weapon you have against any killer, and the one you should abuse every second you can, is Gen-Rushing. I will proclaim it till the day I die. If you are not getting gens done, and fast at that, you are GIVING the match away! Understand, every second to minute you are in a trial, your life expectancy and probability of a win drops dramatically! Your objective at the behest of all else, is to crank out those V8's like there's no tomorrow. If you are not in chase, healing, or unhooking, then your butt should be on a gen, either with a mate or your lonesome. Ideally, it's thought to be best to spread out and do them. However, if you and your mates are half decent in chase, it really doesn't matter. The main thing is that somebody is ALWAYS on at least one. There are mitigating circumstances of course like if you're getting slugged/most of the team is on hooks or ground. But, that should be rare unless you're playing with absolute noodles who cant hold chase for more than two seconds. And yes, I see the irony in that last statement.

Killers--

This one is a bit more varied as a lot of the killers have different playstyles and can benefit from drastically different approaches depending upon the preference and skill of the player. HOWEVER, the master principle remains the same, just from the opposite side. Your job, as obvious as it may seem, is to keep the survivors off gens as long and much as possible. Honestly, the meta perks do most of the work for you after 6.1.0. So this post isn't really geared to harp on you guys as much. That being said, on the surface it may seem you're the aggressor (and by all means you should play that way if it suits you), but in actuality you're playing the defensive role. It's entirely upon you to guard those gens, and punish survivors who are trying to take them from you. While you technically have the harder job, you also have MUCH better tools to help assist you in your kit. USE THEM. Camping and Tunneling are fun for no one however, so please, just because you can doesn't mean you should. You'll feel much better if you secure the win without them anyways. If you're having a hard time keeping up even in low ranks, don't be afraid to swap killers or run training wheel perks. It's no secret that some are just plain better than others, and there's no shame in having a helping hand. You are going against 4 other competitive human beings for Christ's sake. It's ok to have a leg up.

This game is by no means perfect, but it can be less painful if you take the time to learn your craft. Play how you love, and have fun, but remember... This is a COMPETITIVE game. And, a good majority are here to test their skills/experience both with and against you. Play sincere, but play hard. The victory of a well-fought match is a feeling you can't buy and that's what will keep you coming back. Thanks for your time, love Jake.

P.S.

Bring back my WGLF and BBQ Stacks please, this grind is exhausting. 😅

I might add for both survivor and killer: Keep a cool head and don't let emotions take over. Probably the most mistakes are because of emotions. As a killer don't let yourself be provoked, baited, keep focusing on your strategy and keep in mind that there are 4 people on the map. As a survivor, don't panic, don't be angry at teammates for not doing things in one way or another, heal, unhook, repair gens in a strategic manner without rushing too much. Don't make your moves so obvious because that's what you do when you are emotional

For survivor, the main piece of advice that's always helped is from Dwight's "Bond" perk: "We have to work as a team. I need you to survive so that I can survive". Once a survivor dies the game becomes extremely difficult if too much is still to do.

As killer, it's to keep a cool head and suck in the ego: it's fine to give up on chases - you don't have to keep following that survivor, because they know what they're doing. Leave it, and catch them when they're more off-guard.

just had a match with a player who had in his steam profile: "i like to play with people. just play and have fun together :D"

he tunneld the first one out of the game and facecamped the rest. guess thats how he thinks to have fun together

No, this is not a competitive game.

You have to stop thinking that.

It's an asymmetrical game of cat and mouse.

How do you win that way?`Winning is a 3+ escape. A 1 escape is losing without dying.

It depends on who you ask. "Winning" is subjective. A 3+ escape might be a win in your book, but for others, it simply winning might just be if they escape. For me, it's just if I had fun, no matter if I die or escape.

Want to know how to win as each side?

For killer, camp, done properly its near guaranteed 2 kills per match. The chance of survivors finishing 3 gens before that survivor on the hook diesis extremely small without coms.

For survivor use left behind with a key and let your teammates die. Almost guaranteed win.

Focusing on wins is not good. Its far more important as to focus on wins.

I always find it amusing when I hear “genrush good” with no mention of how not fun that strategy is for killers but in the next breath hear “tunneling bad not fun for anyone” lmao. Playing the game efficiently on both sides generally involves unfun tactics more often than not.

genrush brings barely any bloodpoints and you don't pip in the red ranks.

but killers don't enjoy mindgaming anymore and just tryhard you out of the game

BHVR counts a win for survivors as their individual escape through the gates. It doesn’t matter if they escape with others or alone.

Do you have a source for that? Because for balance purpose, they take kill rates, not escape rates, as far as i know. But if you were right, escape rates would be way better.

And i know that escapes through gates count for mmr, but i never saw them mention it as a win condition.
