New Developer Update for August 2022
A new Developer Update for August just went up. 🙂
Glancing over it some quick off the cuff thoughts
- Price reductions in the bloodweb - All bloodweb prices are being reduce about 33%. (Effective it means your existing bloodpoints can buy 50% more stuff.) Nuff said, other than 🎉 🤑
- Unhook Endurance and Haste are increased to 10% speed boost and 10 second duration - This should help people who think the 5 seconds and 7% were too low. Probably won’t do anything about facecamping Bubbas but otherwise a reasonable change in that it does further incentivize switching targets after an unhook.
- Mettle of Man revert - It works like it used to now and specifically is not using Endurance at all, it has its own Condition instead. I’m neutral on this one, I don’t really pay enough attention to this perk to have an opinion.
- Wesker - Reducing his collision box size or sensitivity is totally expected, it’s exactly what happened with Blight after he had similar issues with lots of unexpected collisions during his PTB. Likewise I’m not surprised they’re making him hit survivors who are mid-vault when he Bounds at them, him stopping dead in his tracks was really odd looking. The additional buff that now if you are next to a pallet when Wesker Bounds over it you will be injured is an unexpected bonus for him though, it definitely makes his Bound more threatening in that situation because a common tactic was to stand near the pallet and if he tried to leap over it just leap to the other side. He’s also getting a speed boost between Bounds to help him get hits in tighter loops. And finally the fact that survivors who are hit by other survivors being flung like rag dolls causes the survivor to take a Deep Wound is kind of hilarious to picture. 😄
- Reassurance - Significant change, it now only works once per survivor per hook state. So maximum of 90 second delay on a single hook state if all three survivors have the perk and use it. The perk is probably still useful to garner extra time but it obviously has a much lower upper limit now. That’s good for eliminating the abuse potential, whether it weakens the perk too much is an open question. It’s probably still ok but we’ll see. 🤷♂️
- Awakened Awareness no longer has its aura linger after you stop carrying someone. That’s fine, I was mainly going to use it in my Backpack builds anyway. 🙂
- Low Profile got a significant buff, it now triggers if you are the only survivor standing, not if you are the only one alive. And it also cancels grunts of pain. So good luck finding them if you’re a killer trying to slug for the 4k if the last person has this.
- Better than New got a huge change. It’s not a 16% speed boost to healing, chests, and totem cleansing and blessing and lasts until the survivor is reinjured. It doesn’t appear to increase gen speed though so that migt turn some players off it.
- The new RPD maps have less pallets. I’ll say it again, 🎉 🤪🍾

All-in-all, this is the best DbD news I've read from the devs in a long time.

Great changes across the board. Looking forward to the update

The unhook endurance increase will have an effect of making it nearly impossible for survivors to be unhook unsafely. Which means unintentionally a deliverance buff.
Wesker not being completely countered by vaults and making his vaulting part of his power threating is nice.
I like that they reverted MoM. It wasn't bad after the change, but it wasn't worth using compared to other sources of endurance.
Reassurance I think is a fine change. I know some people aren't going to be happy with it, but I don't think it was in a healthy state before. Extending the hook by 30 seconds is still a strong thing, but you can no longer just keep the survivor there and have to commit to a rescue. With the extra basekit bt duration, pulling off success saves against camping killers should be a lot easier unless they are leatherface.
Awakened Awareness, fine I guess. It's really a nerf meant for keeping the perk in check with nurse as I don't think it was problematic with other killers. But it's still good at what it does.
Low Profile nice buff. If your teammates are being slugged and hooked and you are still around. You can run to make a save now with it. Don't think it'll be hugely impactful, but I guess we'll see.
Better Than New, no longer increasing gen speeds but infinite increased action to everything else. It's fine. I still don't think it's a good perk with these changes, but it's atleast more likely to give some value than before.

They really think I am not going to tunnel because they buff basekit BT to 10s lmao. It’s still the best strategy by far.
Plus they nerf aura reading again, I have zero incentive to go for someone else.

Don’t forget the increased survivor movement speed, it’s not 10% bonus instead of 7%. That actually does make it take longer for you to catch back up to a fleeing survivor off a hook (you only catch up at 0.2 m/s instead of 0.32 m/s which is a 60% relative time increase for that section of the chase.)

Oh don’t worry I am playing Blight and Nurse. This changes nothing for me. It’s a nerf to already bad killers tho.
2 -
They’re less susceptible to the movement increase but it still impacts even Blight and Nurse a bit since it gives the survivor that much extra distance to reach cover.

I actually missed that.
Guardian is probably way better than BT now as a generic 1 slot perk for unhooking. Adds an extra 7% ms so the unhook survivor moves faster than the killer for 8 seconds and you get to see the aura of the killer for 8 seconds so you can intercept if they return.
2 -
That’s an excellent point on Guardian, with that perk an unhooked survivor now literally outruns 115% killers for 8 seconds.
2 -
They also lose blood and scratch marks so they can make quite a lot of distance without the killer having an easy way to track them.

Right, you get rescued with Guardian and if you have Bite the Bullet then you can zip out, no tracks, hide in a bush and completely heal totally silently if you have a medkit or Boon or Self Care or whatever if another survivor isn’t helping.

Exactly this. Trust me, this guy speaks for all killers. lol.
I think the change is great though. It will help endgame saves. Old basekit I could be hooked 10 meters from the door and not make it all the way out with killer body blocking. It will also help with your average killer.
I think the only way to seriously address camping and tunnelling though is to make the Pyramid Head method the default. Killers send their victims across the map.

I do like all the changes so far, but less pallets on those already small R.P.D. maps? Ughh, I don't like it at all! Good luck escaping against F. J. S. J. with add-ons to increase mending, Thanatophobia, Call of Brine, Overcharge, Surveillance, and possibly other perks alike.
Seriously, the smaller R.P.D. maps were already killer sided, and now it's even more killer sided. I'd really welcome back the full R.P.D., as this one is just brutal.. You know, just pick Sally with Surge, Distressing, Thanatophobia, and Infectious Fright; The survivors will be lucky to get past four generators in cases of being able to land around ~80% of blinks successfully.
I do have a feeling that this map will outrun the current Haddonfield's kill rate very fast and in a steady rate.

90% greats changes.
Slightly disappointed about the nerf to reassurance, I understand they did it mainly to combat griefing using the perk, but they could have given it a small compensatory buff. Like increase the duration to 40 seconds and activation range to 12 or 16
The low profile buff is okay I guess, no one will use it still but whatever I don't think it ever had a shot at seeing major use.
Better than new change is also kind of meh. Gives you a small buff to actions that are already pretty fast and can be taken away from you. Not that it would have seen any use before the change either, but I think the change they gave it is ineffective.
Main disappointment personally is the AA nerf. An example of a perk being nerfed for everyone because it's too strong when used on nurse, but perfectly fine on pretty much everyone else. Could have made the nurse do special attacks with blink attack and this perk would have been good on her but fine because it was specifically the combination of AA, Starstruck, Lethal, and Nurse that was broken. Just make star struck not effective on nurse, and the entire build falls apart on her. Lethal and that perk would still be good perks for her, but they wouldn't be broken OP, and they would be counterable.
Anything I didn't mention is wonderful, though, and was a change I was glad to see.

Ignoring Hyperfocus, heh...? Also, poor Calm Spirit still staying nerfed while MoM already gets reverted.
2 -
Hyperfocus + Toolbox is gonna be a big problem...

Oh, well.. If they wanna lose their items to my Rin, it's up to them. Pretty much every single match is a casual or sweaty SWF premade with VOIP and three or more items, so it's almost like Franklin's Demise is a must.
I'd kinda like to see the statistics for the most popular perks at the current moment, mostly for Franklin's Demise and Kindred.

That is actually pretty cool! 😄
