Killer mains will tell you it’s still good, but only because now it’s a trash perk and also it’s 1 less perk slot

That perk had to be changed. You can't just have ability to hold hostage someone forever or just make someone stay alive no metter what even at end game where killer has nothing better to do since gates are 99% and no gens left.
"then go for the rescuer..." Sure, so if I play weak killer with no instadown atm and they can just run to exit anyway while I can't even secure a kill. No can't do, sorry.

Both could've been fixed without also gutting the perk's usability in its own purpose. If the latter issue even required fixing.
6 -
Then they should stop making band aid perks for a playstyle that requires virtually no skill to use.
Because Camping and Tunneling has no downsides on the Insta down killers that you speak of.

Ye. While 30 seconds is still no joke and can make the differencd between getting all gens done against a killer dedicated to camping or to coordinate the unhook it doesn't seem like there are enough fringe situations where those thirty seconds make or break it. And if it still does it kinda just really means that the camping issue is even worse than we already think.
if they wanted to prevent the hooked player from being kept hostage just add the struggle skillchecks and if you miss twice you progress to the next hook stage. Someone whk wants out gets out even faster that way.
If they want to protect camping killers because they would definitely get only one kill that way...well....

I would have opted for a token system, ie the perk starts with 3 tokens, you spend one each time you extend the timer and once they are all gone the perk deactivates. Thus a single survivor can only extend timers that much and when they focus on one survivor they will burn through their stack.

The change is fine - Camping sucks but you shouldn't have all the time in the world to invalidate the killer trying to pressure the other survivors. It still punishes full on campers but normal killers who resort to it to apply pressure won't be punished as much - That's how it should be. The perk doesn't even solve camping before the nerf it's just a band aid fix. The perk shouldn't exist before the issue is resolved in the first place it's just hiding the issue.
The perk is more than generous on buying a survivor time who is on the hook. The only thing I'd personally do to it is show the killers aura if they're 16m within the hook when the perk activates for maybe 5 seconds along with giving every survivor some icon prompt to know the perk has activated. That way for solo survivors they know the killer is camping and can continue working on generators. Right now even before the change the perk was a terrible bandaid fix regardless of community praise. Everyone was quick to jump into praising it just because it's our first actual tool to handle camping. It solves nothing though.

Completely agree! This would make the perk much more viable when you actually need it, and you would make sure the game would not be "held hostage".
2 -
Killers are getting a perk to defend against 99% gates called Terminus. Even if a healthy survivor gets injured before gates are opened they become broken.

camping always has a downside ,You arrent gettin people off gens giving them gens for free, unless you are camping a hook in a tight 3 gen you're losing more than you gain,,UNLESS survivors keep hovering around hook wasting time
1 -
Or you team or you could be doin gens while killer is camping,,,perk is perfectly fine as it is ,,counter camping for a decent amount of time but doesn't negate it
1 -
They could have just added a way for the hooked surv to cancel reassurance without nerfing the perk
7 -
Very prophetic. The next comment below yours does just that. If players stopped taking the game seriously we wouldn't have a fraction of the problems we do.

Killer mains explaining how you aren't allowed to hold survivors hostage on the hook but they can.
5 -
You aren't being held hostage on a hook. You will die once the timer ran out.
2 -
You know good and well the intent behind his comment.
2 -
Hook line and sinker.
2 -
New Reassurance will still be good. I'm sure in a few weeks/months Otz will make a video about it and suddenly everyone will be all like "oh yeah man i knew it was secretly amazeballs this whole time bro"
I don't know in what universe this perk is not good. It's kinda like a survivor Deadlock of sorts, albeit it has a risky manual input. I genuinely can't wait to tinker with it.
2 -
I'm beginning to think that most people aren't as good/knowledgeable as they think they are at the game, particularly with regards to certain perks and solo play.
4 -
I read the nerf wrong and thought it was perk hook state and not just hook instance. So you can't use it again if the survivor gets face camped and goes to struggle. Definitely got significantly nerfed. A shame, original reassurance was a really powerful anti camp perk.

There is no downside to Camping when it comes to the hooked survivor. They are getting that kill for free.
0 -
You mean there's no upsides when it comes to the hooked survivor, not downsides.
0 -
Same thing. The killer gets to camp without downsides and the survivor on the hook has 0 opportunity to play the game.
If the game provided a "debuff" (as an example) to a killer camping, that would be a downside.
0 -
I would not have any problem with a reasonable debuff, it's just one of those things that's tricky to do without affecting "legitimate" camping, or that couldn't be gamed by either side.
One of the ideas I've had is that if the killer spends X amount of time within a X meters of a hooked survivor AND there is no other survivor within X meters of either the killer or the hooked survivor, the survivor is teleported to the hook furthest from the killer.
This sounds pretty straightforward and good all-around, but it could be gamed by killers proxying instead; it would only really solve facecamping.
It's very hard for automated systems to correctly judge intent.
0 -
Somehow, it's difficult to figure out.
0 -
Yeah I don't really get how people say the counter to camping is to "do gens", sure the 3 people doing gens might get out, but the person on hook has a guaranteed loss.
0 -
His word isn't gospel, but you'd be lying if you said you didn't think Otz knew what he was talking about.
Some perks are seriously slept on, and it really does take a content creator to popularize unconventional builds.
I still think Vigil could have become super meta if content creators put more of a spotlight on it. It is a decent perk on it's own, and a busted perk if everyone runs it, but it's crippled by the prisoner's dilemma. If content creators pushed for it to be used more, people would just assume it is meta and equip it assuming others will as well.

my only issue with reassurance was the trolling potential, and in soloQ its a nightmare.
0 -
I agree, it would be tricky and the game would have to distinguish between someone who just hooked the survivor and is blatantly just standing nearby without starting a chase with anyone else and a killer who just happened to see a survivor nearby trying to farm.
It's because a few patches ago you might have been able to pull something off while being able to complete your objective as survivor. Now not so much.
0 -
That does not justifyi nerfing it to ground they should extended the range which it activates and increase the time to 60s and I would be fine it deactivate in endgame.
2 -
Camping isnt a survivor tactic though, other than being unfun it doesn't change anything for said survivor,, its just solo q survivors moaning how camping is broken while hovering around hook and not doin gens
0 -
It was never going to end camping because the idea every match would have 4 reassurances was a delusion. Why did people think every survivor would run that as a meta perk? You'll be lucky to see one every few matches regardless of a nerf or not. Band aid perks don't fix issues like that. Just as DS never ended tunneling.
1 -
I mean a survivor could have spend his time pausing the camped survivor during the match and the others could gen rush the killer
0 -
I am sure that would kill camping the whole 1 out of 20 games this happens. You also really over estimate solo queue. What's gonna happen is the timer is paused while 3 other survivors keep going for the unhook. "Do gens" was always the camping counter.
0 -
I never said it was a survivor 'tactic'. I said the killer is getting that kill for free.
Take away the 'unfun' part, and they are complaining because it IS broken. It shouldn't be so easy to simply camp and get a free kill that way. There is a reason why balance exists in games. The unfun part and the fact that a survivor has to be forced to play sacrificial lamb should never be a thing in this game.
I don't think anyone is buying Dead by Daylight so that other players can participate in a match, while they just have to hang on a hook without doing anything. It's a dumb concept.

Well, you have the Hatch as well for "1 escape away" I think it´s only fair.

They nerfed it to ground. Now it is dead perk. It does nothing.
Another buff for campers by BHVR. They don't wanna make camper killer upset.
1 -
Mistakes in game design should be fixed with patches and reworks, not with rubberband "perks"
2 -
An extra 30s is useful even as solo

I don't think camping is broken ,,survivors not rushing gens or trading just before hooked person is about to hit next stage is what makes it "op" imo it's a lazy unskilled killer play (unless we talking about endgame or a hook in a 3gen ) and while some killer can completely deny unhooks with instadowns you still got all the time to do the gens as surv,,even with deadlock u can probably have 1 gen left by the time survivor on hook dies
0 -
It’s bad design either way you look at it.
From survivor perspective, a new player could have bought the game today and realize they can’t go anything about being on a hook. Unless their teammate throws themselves and trades.
From a killer perspective it requires 0 skill and the game becomes exclusively boring for all parties (with exception of those who do it to grief).
I don’t think this is what BHVR wants for their game.
0 -
bold of you to assume these kinds of players risk hatch spawning.
1 -
agreed,,but sometimes as boring as it is camping is the correct play if you wanna win as killer,,both sides play to win with whatever tactics game offers,,sometimes you stomp as killer and sometimes you gotta play like that to comeback,,,Camping can be a strat and a single perk shouldn't completely negate it ,,same way iron will was busted before its nerf and completely countered one of killer's ways to track you and completely cucked spirit
1 -
I don’t think anyone is questioning how valid or how much of a strat it is. Though this is subjective because a strat would suggest there is some kind of skill involved.
Just how badly designed this part of the game is and how unfair it is for new players who don’t have access to the band aid perks yet killers can camp day 1 of purchasing DBD.
0 -
If the killer had a 1x Gen Regression base speed instead of 1/4th then camping would likely not be a "needed" aspect of DBD.
