Killer Diversity

I see a lot of people complaining about killer diversity and it can be a problem. However, you don't often see many solutions besides "buff the weaker killers" "nerf the strong killers" and obviously, that's another argument altogether.

What I want to know is why not be the change you want to see? Play a killer that you want to see more of in game. Other survivors will surely appreciate it. If you win, great job! If you lose, no worries, it's a game, have fun.

Me, who always wants to see Legion and who mains them : :D

    The survivors : -_-

Jokes aside, there are some killers I'd love to see more of but I don't have the DLC for them, like my guy Pyramid Head. I might bully my friend to have him play this killer more !

I'll even compromise and switch up from my trusty Legion. I'll give Doctor a whirl :D

i've been playing oni for the first time recently. he's been fun to try and figure out.

but my MMR on him is hyper boosted because my dredge is very good, so i'm getting sweat squads that are... i won't say they're bullying me, but they're doing so well that they actually feel the need to apologise in the end game chat, and honestly in a way that's worse than them being mean 😅

still, i'll always be the killer diversity hire. even if i see 3 medkits in my lobby right now, uh oh.

What I find funny is that players want the devs to essentially punish the players for making a decision 🤣

Been having fun with Wesker and got some salt mail about being "boring" cause everyone is playing Wesker. Well sorry, wanted to have fun with new Killer I enjoy?

Don't worry Survivors, Im sure you'll all soon go back to your regularly scheduled Nurses, Blights, and Huntresses soon. Maybe even some Legion and Spirit!

Lol, autocorrect will do that sometimes. Didn't catch that. XD

Hey it's not that bad! People used to complain about seeing only Blights and Nurses. Now, as TatsuiChiyo said, we also have Huntress and occasionally Spirit or Legion! That's an improvement!

Although its true that the killers who don't have good map pressure/mobility are slowly going exctint now. That I feel is more of a problem of large maps and more and more prevalent high speed killer meta. Afterall look at Weskers power.

Killer diversity at high MMR is terrible. I get thrown in with a lot of survivor bully squads, and I don't think most of the killer roster has a decent chance of getting at least a 2k against them. I honestly feel like I'm stuck playing the same few killers every game, because of coordinated SWFs on voice communication.

I think it'll actually be better since the updates..... now you don't have to prestige every single person and lose all your perks to get prestige three.... so you can actually build on your people now and have more variety. I have been doing more variety now that that has happened in survivor.... I can barely play without Lightweight since I'm a runner. So I'm assuming the same for killers.

Because playing weak killers is a legitimately miserable experience for numerous reasons.

First of all, their is no way to practice a killers power out side of customes which requires a friend. (Solution, add a bot practice mode)

Second of all, mmr matches you with a killer you've never touched (and only one perk) as if you are playing your main (which is crazy)

Third. Survivors are in general going to be toxic enough Post game to make you not want to play the game for the rest of the day. I've NEVER done poorly in a game as killer and not gotten massively abused post game.

Fourth. Only a handful of killers are viable at high MMR. Selecting anyone below A tier Is (sans someone with an absurd number of hours on a particular killer) is almost an automatic loss.

    I have seen (I haven't played)

The complaints about this "Not a lot of Killer verity"

It's a lot of little problems that show up...

Maps- Spawns for everything (Killers, Survivors, Gens, Loops and pallets)... some Killers can't make it to Gens on the other side of the map

Gen times (for Survivors)- 90 seconds per Gen... seems odd to make that change

Gen regression (for Killers)- The base Gen regression is so low that Killers are running 2 or more regression perks (but more on that in the perks sections) What if they increase base Gen regression?

Perks- They did change a lot of the perks so I can't get mad at that... but some of the changes they did make aren't working or are outshined by other perks

I keep hearing that but I've never seen stats showing there's actually that huge a disparity at high MMR. The closest thing was a couple years ago the devs released a chart of pick rates by Rank (from back when Rank was used for matchmaking) and the span of the rates wasn't all that different from the spans we currently see with killers ranging from about 2% to 9% pick rates at the top end.

    image.png

And the aggregate site I follow has similar pick rates that range from 1% to about 7%. (Right now Wesker has a 10% pick rate since he's brand new but that will even out in a week or two.) The top three picked killers not counting Wesker (Nurse, Huntress and Blight) only count for about 20% of game in all the data I've seen so far.

Like I said previously, though, I'd love to see a killer pick rate by MMR chart in the format they had for the perk usage by MMR charts. Likewise for killer kill rates by MMR. It would be interesting to see how much of a difference there actually objectively is between the killers based on MMR in those graph formats. 🙂

Red Ranks was a completely different world. I did well back then at red rank 1, even with garbage killers like Clown and Pig.

And even though people say solo q is “the worst than it’s ever been”, they clearly don’t remember the days of rank based matchmaking, when the escape rate was much worse by a lot. Your picture even shows it. Look at the 68% average kill rate at red ranks. Imagine how bad the solo q escape rate would have to be for that to happen.

I’m totally with you on the rank system being worse than MMR. When everybody in the match is about the same MMR the matches are generally close, not as much when everybody was about the same rank.

Like I said though I haven’t seen evidence so far that the killer distribution in the above average ratings is all that far from the overall ones I’ve seen. And I’m sure people exaggerate their claims or have selective memory on who their opponents were, remembering the ones they really dislike and forgetting the ordinary ones that didn’t make as much of an impression. So I’m naturally skeptical about how skewed the killer selection really is.

People on these forums will say whatever it takes to get something nerfed.

We have people complaining that camping and tunneling should be nerfed because it's unfun for survivors, but they don't want SWFs nerfed even though it's understood that SWFs are the most unfun thing for killers.

And even though there's a giant survivor's handbook for what killers should and shouldn't do, survivors have zero rules for themselves, for things they won't do because it's unfun for killers.

    You aint wrong.

Whenever I come across a player playing Billy, I always try to commend them in end-game chat if possible. Complimenting their curves or just showing appreciation to them for playing a killer 99% of the playerbase doesn't even touch makes it a lot more memorable and fun to go against too.

Yes, decide everything on one game, don't practice to get better nooooooooo, that requires thinking

There's literally no reason to make the game harder for yourself by playing a bad killer when you can just pick a killer like wraith who is easy and effective. No point of doing something that's just going to make you frustrated.

I don't see why buffing weaker killers is a problem? Huh?

Why would I play some of the worst killers so my opponents who're totally random strangers who'll forget about me under 30 minutes have a good time? I'll play who I want to so I can have fun, not the random dude who doesn't give 2 craps about me. Imagine buying a game so you can make people who don't care about you feel happy.

If you play weak killers like myers, clown, sadako, etc. because you have fun playing them, then good. I do the same, I sometimes play weak killers because their powers, despite being weak sometimes, are fun for ME. Never play or do something because you care about random strangers who don't have any amount of sympathy towards you. You're robbing yourself of fun. Am I saying you should be absolute jerks to your opponents since they're strangers? Not at all.
