'Please Don't Disconnect.'
I know suiciding/DCing/AFKing has been a problem for a while now in tandem with excessive Camping/Tunneling but something about tonight has really just been awful tonight. Out of about 10ish games I can think of two games where everyone had a chance to have fun. One of those two was a 4k, but we all actually had the agency to make meaningful decisions and play. Rest has been getting dunked on by camping killers or survivors that just really don't want to be there.
In my last solo queue of the night the lobby had 4 PC's. One person asked 'Please just don't DC on first hook.'
We didn't.
The Killer did.
Didn't see that coming.
Really sucks because it was the first Pyramid I've seen in so long. God I was so thrilled. Excited even. I wanted so badly to run up and get his attention. To lovingly stroke his exposed chest while he brought down his sword upon me in indifference. I had to restrain and resist myself for the good of the team. I really wanted to get one good game in tonight and I couldn't do that if I let base instincts take over like when you want to boop a Pig more than anything even when you know it'll hurt.
Maybe he needed a little love though. Wish it could've been me to give it to him. In the post game lobby my team had to console me. 'Men always leave you in the end.' Some truth to those words, but I didn't think it would've been so fleeting.

From what I noticed there's a huge problem with matchmaking. This leads to very depressing matches. No matter how good you are, you'll get paired with bad players every now and then. Many people give up because they think they got zero chance to win since they feel like their opponent is way too strong compared to them.
This mentality is a bit stupid since it means that people don't want to try and win but want the free win in their table. If we all play with this mentality by simply disconnecting every time something doesn't go in our way, we'll never improve and the skill level will be low in general because nobody wants to improve.
Long story short: do your best instead of crying about it.

I'm sorry Pyramid Head abandoned you in your time of need

If you have fun in more than one game out of ten, you are having a fantastic session.

its planed liked that. bhvr want a killrate over 50%. that means your survivor mmr has to go down and you end up in yellow perk range. the more you play the faster it gets down. now you are in hell and die even more.

It happens on the other end too, I'm very new to killer. Am in fact a little yellow killer, I am still learning basic killer mechanics, the layouts of maps and the input delay I have with the controller. ISTG every game I've played tonight has been high-level four-man SWFs with lots of hours, high-level add-ons/perks and just running combos of toolbox, flashlight and medkit.
By the time I manage to get one survivor down and hooked, three gens have been popped and they're all chasing me and t-bagging me. It's very demoralising and that's saying something because I come from League of Legends, where the air is so thick with toxicity you need an aqua-lung to breathe.
I did finally manage to get the better of a cocky survivor who was waiting for me at the exit gate and T-bagging me, so that was satisfying, but yeah. This game, like all games, has a steep learning curve. And being a baby-killer basically giving free games to sweats isn't fun, but I suppose there's not much else I can do.

I love you, whoever you are. Please, more horny pyramid head threads

I've noticed the trend is significantly higher when a killer runs Lethal Pursuer in a solo q match and gets a hook within 30 seconds. This is usually when players go straight to a DC or Suicide. I don't have stats on this but pretty much most games just become garbage after that. Devs should understand the impact of their changes but who knows...

This thread took a weird turn near the end.

Yea, I think it has to do with predicted future events. Once you are on that hook, the likelihood that you'll be the one to make out the gates goes very low. Or the perception is that that will be true. The killer may decide to face camp or hook patrol to tunnel you out seconds after the unhook (10 seconds now). In either case, the bloodpoint rewards are going to be low. The fun is going to be low. Honestly I'm surprised that more people aren't suiciding with the instant queue times to find a better match.

And ragequitting on that hook ruins the fun of the other 4 players in the game, which becomes a cycle when someone else ragequits in your game and makes that unwinnable as well. Its almost like there's a cycle that gets caused by people unwilling to deal with minor setbacks and turning them into major ones.

People probably don't always want an easy win, but the MMR system leads to a lot of unfun situations on both ends of the spectrum: you lose a few time too often, maybe even by offering some stellar looping gameplay and help your other teammates out, so your MMR drops deep enough that you are paired with potatoes who are too scared of their own shadow and if you mess up too much you will end up in MMR hell where you can only break out by doing at least 3 gens yourself. Ugh :V
On the other hand of the spectrum, you might not really want to do all the killing you could do, as getting a bunch of 4k's will lead to just sweaty matche after sweaty match and no opportunity to just enjoy an evenly paced game. You either play balls to the walls or lose miserably, no room for anything but big gen regression builds or just throwing a coin.
There is really no casual option right now and that sucks a bit. You see it in the amount of people who are thirsty for that bot mode. This is actually ludicrous in a pvp game, but a lot of players seem to be fed up with what they are served. I still massively enjoy playing killer, but sometimes the constant barrage of cheeky survivors and sweat fests drains your mental fortitude. I know, you can always take a break from the game ... but we don`t have the option to play casual queue were everything goes. This game is threated as a finely tuned pvp event, but a lot of stuff is so out of whack that a true MMR system feels strangely out of place at times.
So is the solution for peeps who don't want to deal with this anymore just to smurf for an evening and then sadly stomp a few baby survivors? MMR is slowly draining my will to kill, every single time.

Hmm - so if I average about 1 fun game in 10 with all the sweat and bs maps/build/attitude this game promotes - I could still save time just dying on first hook in the suck games and be into another lobby mere seconds later to have a shot at that 1 in 10 game.
Good odds to me - I'll do what I have to do.

you are absolutly right. and its planed this way. bhvr wants kill rates above 50%, that means the average survivor mmr will drop over time and killer mmr goes up.
that leads to sweaty games for killer, facing the elite swf groups that still have a high mmr and for soloQ survivors it means they end up in hell.
the idea of mmr based on kills / exits is broken on so many levels.

you were doing so well... then the hornyposting came

Ever since I saw your killswitch comment, about killswitching everything except for Pyramid Head, I knew to look out for your future posts lol
"i just want to spend an eternity in torment" had me dying

It's okay. Just sometimes you think some people are invincible, that everything will glance right off them. Then you expertly dodge a couple of love hits and they suddenly want to see other people. It was my fault I think, I should've seen the signs.
Right?! At this point the funnest part of DBD is streaming to friends and laughing at the absurdity of it all. 'Oh first hook of the game and they suicided? GG.' 'Oh! I'm getting face camped. Is my only option to suicide? Or can they capitalize on those 2 minutes of hook time... let's find out together!'
I've been running distortion, so I should keep my eyes on that. Loads of people are running lethal.
Go for more pulls, get more dopamine. The next one is coming I can FEEL it.
I'm glad you're enjoying my thought provoking discussions.
Actually! ACTUALLY!
I do.
Mostly for FFXIV, and lately more original works, but I am absolutely in that sphere. I first really got into it by writing some real uh... ill advised Silent Hill fanfic as a teenager back in my Gaia days. But I've absolutely developed as a writer since then, even been published in ananthology once. I recently posted a fan-killer concept on these forums with an entire 8000-word backstory if you're ever interested. The killer is a college professor who gets involved in one of her students lives with a strong desire to help her succeed.
Posted about it here a while ago.

The MMR being as lax as it is now isn't much different than the old system. The alternative is a stricter system where you'd spend 15-20 mins in queue for a match that may or may not go well. People say they want it but I get the feeling 20 minute waits would get old quick. I would rather play something else personally.

What i'm asking is to not get paired with beginners who installed the game yesterday. I have 1000 hours and getting paired with a person who got 15 hours seems a bit rediculous.
3 -
As a new killer, I would like to be paired with people who are at my skill level instead of SWF sweats who are running maxed our perks and addons. I don't want to stomp baby survivors, far from it, I just want a fun, balanced game where no one is trying too hard to win as we can just all vibe on the map.

I think we're all better off acknowledging that this is what human nature is and shaming isn't going to change it.
The cycle can be broken though. The survivors just have to have hope that the match will end "well" whatever that means. The simplest thing would be radically increase bloodpoints for survivors on hook if they stick out to the bitter end. Seriously, give survivors 20k bloodpoints if they make every skill check and finally die when their hook timer runs out.
Or give basekit fixes for parts of the game that make the game feel terrible for survivors like facecamping and tunneling off hook. I get it there's a new perk, buried behind a pay wall, that only engages when another survivor abandons what they are doing to approach within 6m. This is laughably bad. I love how the killer community gaslit BHVR into think it was so powerful it needed to be nerfed. I have literally never seen it taken in a game. Nevermind see it change the behavior of killers... so predictably unhelpful.
Personally, if I were game developer for a day, I'd fix facecamping by making generator times accelerate the longer the killer was alone within 30 meters of a hook. You stand 10m away from a survivor for 30 seconds, all other generators get completed faster. And for all those camping is sometimes a necessary strategy folks, think about this, it would have 0 impact in endgame.
1 -
You... literally just got BT for 5 seconds basekit for free, then when people complained that wasn't enough, it got bumped up to 10. You have been given exactly what you asked for and still demand more.
3 -
I definitely agree that survivors should be bribed to stay on the hook. As it is if they're getting camped they know they'll likely not live to get the 7k for escaping and the bloodpoints for for 1st stage are non-existent and for 2nd stage they're pathetic. Why shouldn't a survivor die and go next with the instant queues they currently enjoy?
I made suggestion addressing this a month ago: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/341311/how-to-reduce-suiciding-on-hook
While it wouldn't eliminate the problem it would help. I know I would hang around longer for extra points since I have a Jeff to get to P100.

Me looking at you tagging me in this thread I was very happily ignoring until now
2 -
Nah. Because the uneven sides in queue survivors get the short end of the stick, just as killer's die before 6.1.0. Now you guys get backed filler terrible survivors and killers get worse survivors on average.
0 -
I would still face camp even under your rule, cburton of 311. I would happily accept those terms and continue to prove to myself and others that face camping is love, and face camping is life.
0 -
which would at least mean 3 man escapes, and the poor unlucky dude on the hook could leave the match with over 20k bloodpoints...which just might be enough to stem the tide of suicides and dc's. I'm not delusional, it will not solve it completely, but that I think is an unreasonable goal.
1 -
I've never disconnected from a game.
But if it's clear we the survivors are just getting stomped, I'm not going to pretend the game is competitive (especially when a killer seems so preternaturally good that it feels like they are cheating). I'll get on a gen and when the killer comes I'll just let him take me. I won't hide or draw it out and I'll keep doing gens, but that's it. I'll gladly get out and into a different game and let someone else try for the hatch.

Question. Are the people who don't want survivors to ######### on first hook because you know your teammates are NOT coming for you, the same people that think there should be an option to ######### if slugged or allow a survivor to kill another survivor if slugged or simply if another survivor is doing poorly you can help the killer kill the survivor who is not good for their game?
