When will they release a spider killer?
There are so many insect creatures that you can make a killer concept of but the spider is, and always will be, the creepiest mofo ever. Imagine if you look straight at her 8 giant ######### eyes, or run into her web.
Release it.

I hope not. One of my friends will never play again if a spider killer is released. She has a pretty intense fear of spiders.

Hopefully never. I will genuinely be forced to quit on the spot. Insects and arachnids are a massive no for me (and literally one of the reasons I broke up with one of my exes lmao, I cannot stand them).

I can picture dragging a survivor to a hook in a cocoon. Maybe a human/spider teleportation accident - so he could still be humanoid in shape.
Trapdoor spider traps that inflict poison with an addon to switch them to ceiling spiders that drop down
Webbing that slows down gen progress, or slows movement after touching it

though hopefully there will be an arachnophobia mode if they ever add a spider killer. (Also would be fun how people not affected by this would throw yet another fit)

Nope. They're cute to look at in photos and great to know exist and I love learning about how they function but if one comes anywhere near me I'm freezing up in absolute terror and probably hyperventilating. I cannot stand anything related to insects.

But do they have coulrophobia mode for clown? i know a few people who are legit phobic of clowns.

While, yes, they have stated this in the past, I'd think the introduction of The Dredge has them thinking a bit differently now. Plus, it's not like you couldn't turn a bug into a humanoid monster.

Yh it's not an issue for me but i know a couple of people who are uncontrollably afraid of clowns. It's a fairly common phobia.

Still humanoid (ish) - probably even easier to animate since they don't have to do any running, it just slides along.

I'd probably perform my Dredge strategy and play with my eyes shut whenever the power activated, open them slightly to see what's happening and close them again.
It's when it's a pure killer not just the power (ie a spider) I'd quit. Couldn't deal with it.

If people quit because of spiders honestly good.
The creativity shouldn't be held back because people are scared of clowns/spiders/vomit/ect.

the devs have stated MANY things that they have turned back on, one of them including The Clown.
Considering killers now have special animations for every action, there is no way that point still stands.
At this point, I think its just a height issue, unless its a disgustingly horrid Daddy Long Legs, all you're gonna see is rocks, rubble, and grass.

If people quit because of a videogame spider I seriously think they need help. I'm scared of spiders irl but a videogame one is stretching it
especially in a "horror" game its supposed to be creepy or have creepy themes

i have often asked for some insect/bug/spider based killer/mechanic but… would it really hurt to be more compassionate towards those that also want to experience a horror game but are suffering from a phobia (which is quite different to just a little bit scared of spiders)? Like.. an optional mode for these common phobias that are reasonably small to implement, wouldn’t affect other players and would enable these horror elements to be added..
but you said you would find it good if these affected people had to quit.. without knowing why or what DbD and the horror genre mean to them etc..

Dredge is pretty far off from humanoid. And as we saw in the fly, you can make a humanoid insect / spider like.

Still waiting for that humanoid spider we saw in one of the cutscenes. I prefer an actual spider but I don't think they'll bother.

Well the one we saw in trappers cutscene is probs the best we are gonna get. at least we know a spider killer is canon. but that humanoid one im looking forward 2 greatly

Maybe they could use the weird spider like monster from the lore. I think it was in one of the archive animations. It's humanoid though, but I guess that's necessary because of the killer animations.

Judging by other games I’ve seen with an arachnophobia mode it’s just a floating spider head so that would be incredibly goofy

I haven't- don't have the money (yet) and it's not my type of game.
But just looking at the Steam page made me start to panic so I don't think I'll be able to actually play it. Sure the cute fuzzy spiders are much less panic inducing than the massive #########-off furry ones (shout out to Australia will literally never move there) I genuinely can't.

Essentially Dredge isn't that different from any other killer - he still is a two armed figure with humanoid proportions (~2x1 vertically). Animating it isn't that different from animating humanoid killers, probably even easier due to the lack of need to animate legs as they are replaced by a cloud of black fog.
Literal spider killer on the hand would be the opposite of humanoid in every possible aspect and he would literally not fit in the game. Not even mentioning how different animations would have to be for it or how difficult it would be to properly animate its movements.
If we ever get a spider killer, it would be a humanoid with spider feats like the one we saw in previous archive videos with Observer.

Yeah. But it’s optional and would only be used by those affected so they wouldn’t need to ditch the whole game just because one of plenty of killers.

Oh, I’m not trying to say that it shouldn’t be a thing if a spider killer were implemented. I was just saying that it looks pretty silly when arachnophobia mode is on in some games, but that doesn’t make it a bad thing if it’s allowing people with the phobia to play.

It would be the first killer the mere sight of which would actually scare me.
That is, if they were an actual realistic spider. Humanoid spiders don’t really do that for me.

They can still do a humanoid character that has a spider ability of sorts. Like imagine Dwight trying to fight off a bunch of spiders. I for one hate them, but I still would find that funny to watch. I'm thinking similar to the Artist's abilities, looking similar to the Dredge.

like the blight maybe in a year or two, shes been an occurring creature in multiple tomes. blight took a long time to finally get into the game. i would love a true spider like in that last year game, but a compromise or meeting half way within the engines limitation with a gorgon type of monster from evolve would be okay too since she has humanoid limbs and proportions.

A spider would be cool, whether that be creature or humanoid. Plenty of characteristics to play around such as webbed gens/vaults, cocoon, eggs. Would be certainly better than there latest killer, The Felixster.

Hm. There is also a phobia for rubber ducks and literally anything you can imagine. Doesn’t mean a phobia actually has to be related to something we associate with horror and vice versa we don’t have to incorporate something into a horror game just because other people might have a phobia against it?

Why exclude spiders specifically tho? They already included common phobias such as clowns and vomiting.

i am always asking for a phobia mode for these things.
though including it just because it’s a common phobia doesn’t make sense, as a phobia is an irrational fear and can be against literally anything.

In that case I agree with the phobia mode,not sure if they're willing to put in the extra work tho.Or would Plague for example just shoot untextured orbs?

Well. I don’t know.
if I had to implement it I would probably make it a different color like blue-ish but also the sounds would need changing.
for arachnophobia and coulrophobia they would only need to make one neutral cosmetic that would be displayed for those using the mode - this is definitely easier than Plague.
